Went to Biddeford today, looked like they had cleared all the manual floor nailers as I didn't see any. I didn't check the app to see if they were still in inventory or not as I am not really interested in them. Did have the 10pc metric socket set come up as 5.83 in the app, found some on the shelf but price checked full price at SOC. No deals to be found...

Glad you got it. I was gonna take a spin down there later if you didn't post. Grats on the penny deal!

I did a little more searching but obviously nothing around. Have you found the stores around here to be pretty good with deals or are they good at getting rid of the clearance stuff?

These lights are penny status! There were 3 I was watching. Today I went in and only 1 left. Got it for .01 but dang...would of loved to have 3 of these to use to light up my license plate wall. Oh well, I will just sell this one I guess.

A store 2 hours from me had 10 of those the last time I checked.

RGIS is an inventory company. They hang them during their yearly inventory to mark what areas to count. Usually a bay at a time.

The nailer deals were good while they lasted, but that's pretty much gone. Other than the nailers and nails, there hasn't been a whole lot. They are pretty good with their inventories and keeping stuff organized around here.

How long have you been doing this for? Would love to get my hands on some shop lights or anything similar if those ever go on clearance.

SKU 647390, black diamond plate fluorescent shop lights. Rochester had a ton of these for $15 a few weeks ago. I didn't see any today, but I didn't check in the computer. Write that SKU down and check it at every HD. These are normally $40

I noticed that today in the computer in Biddeford but didn't find any. Would you mind checking next time you are in Rochester?

There was two Bostitch coil roofing nailers at my local HD yesterday. I checked the pricing on them, and both were full-blown retail.

I think you're right. The nail and nailer deals are history. Don't waste your time trying to find them. They're toast now.

The nailer and nail deals pretty much happened because HD was shaking out their nailer line to purge any model that was duplicated at Lowes. Now the stores have banners over the doors saying "New Exclusive Nailers". When they go hanging banners over the front door promoting their new exclusive line of nailers, that tells you that they did the inventory shake-up and took a short term loss to prevent long term losses in price matching. Now that the inventory shake-up is over, the nailer deals are history.

Of course, finding nails to match nailers is like a putting together a puzzle. You've got paper collated, wire weld collated, plastic collated, 0-degree, 15-degree, 28-degree, 30-degree, etc., and then they had all of the different sizes. The result is that they had to stock n! different types of nails. I think the nail blowout was all about streamlining inventory so they could decrease the number of active SKU.

That, and they're doing some channel stuffing to the customer by replacing 2k boxes with 4k boxes. In the long term it's all going to be profitable for them. Our short term nailer deals are seeing the sun set.

You left out 21 degree :p

A quick search yields the top...

What does a clearance with a .00 price mean? Is that just another version of the first level markdown?

Also, under what circumstances would an item sku (on box sticker and box itself) not be found online or in app, but be found on associates "phone" price chick thing?

Yeah I believe 0.00 prices are the first clearance, though I have seen some bizarrely low prices with a 0.00 so maybe there are exclusions. I think there's a standard clearance strategy and then the individual stores could do weird things on some items.

So I just had the best experience ever!!!

Cashier stopped me at self check out and said I couldn't buy penny items because she will be shot. She called a manager over, she explained it to him, with a smile on his face, he put the items in my cart, canceled the transaction, tapped the top of a tough box I had as he pushed the cart to me and said "have a good one."

Now THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE!

There's 89 pages to this thread that explain everything along with links to other threads with more elaborate details. But a direct answer to your question is in store only.

Had a guy get another fan for me and he price checks it and finds it 1 cent. He broke the glass shade when he took it down and said its against policy to sell 1 cent items and they get thrown out. I called customer care and the guy told me they can't sell 1 cent items and they get sent back. Called him a F-ing liar and hung up.

The smart managers have learned that it's better to give away penny items to a customer, thereby creating goodwill and avoiding transactions that show up as black marks on their record during an audit.

Dumb managers fight with customers over penny items. If they do this with an aggressive customer who knows how to work within the system, then they create negative goodwill and the end up creating black marks on their inventory control assessments. Managers who fight only end up hurting themselves. Jabba the Hutt was an example of this.

A smart customer who calls 800 C/S and handles them adroitly is going to have his penny transactions go through. I've never failed on a penny buy. But then I'm good at working within the system. I never go cussing at the C/S reps. That will get you nowhere fast. You need to present your case in a way that makes them want to help you.

Some managers really hate penny buyers. Jabba told me that he really hates it when people come into his store looking to "screw him" on penny deals. Penny deals stick in his craw because he gets dinged for having poor inventory management. He responds by being mean to penny deal hunters, and escalating the situation rather than defusing it.

Smart managers will defuse the situation by giving the merchandise away. That creates goodwill and avoids creating an autidable log entry that demonstrates poor inventory management. Dumb managers escalate the situation to a fight with customers that leads to a call to 800 C/S. That ends up having customer complaints filed that expose their poor inventory control habits. They only make it worse for themselves by fighting with you.

Last week I found a bunch of backpack sprayers that were stashed in the rafters for a Spring Special Event in March. They had huge special event sale price signs taped to them. They were supposed to be stashed until March, and then brought down to floor level for the Spring Special Event sale. But the store's inventory control was so poor that they never even pulled the Special Event merchandise down for the event. They just left it sitting up there in the rafters and let it rot until it became outdated seasonal merchandise and got written down as a loss.

It really screws a manager when corporate finds out that the dummy never even staged the inventory for a Special Event, and just let it sit in the rafters until it was outdated seasonal merchandise that the corporate inventory system was programmed to write off after 4 months. When that happens, you can bet that HD corporate realizes that they have a problem with how a store is being managed, not a problem with customers looking for deals. Smart managers bury the evidence by letting it slide out the front door. Dumb managers look for a fight and it blows up in their face.

Great way to look at it. If one can develop a relationship with management, one may be able to get more penny deals than you could handle. The magic question, could you develop such a relationship that you could bring penny deals to management and they just give you the items without all the hassle. Saving their a$$ because you no longer try to sneak out through self checkout putting those purchases on their books.

All that it takes is having a Pro account at that store that shows you bring them a lot of money.
Unfortunately, my Pro account at my local store doesn't buy me any love from managers at far away stores.

I may have to try that approach. I have my personal small business account as well as the company that I work for full time.

So I was at a foreign HD yesterday, spoke to the guy in Tool Rental about looking for nails. The store had lots of nails in the price-check-app at 44c, but NOT ONE box of nails was anywhere to be found. I went looking to Tool Rental to see if they were hiding there. They rent Hitachi, so they had a good stock of Hitachi-compatible nails and nothing else.

during our conversation I mentioned what a PITA it is to find nails to match a nailer. I mentioned that I already had several different Hitachi nailers and he saw a Bostitch sitting in my cart. I mentioned that I basically had to buy nailers based upon nail availability at the local stores, and that it was a PITA when I couldn't find nails.

He let it slip out that he invited about 6 friends over to his house who were framers, and told them that they could take any nails that they could use out of the huge pile that he had in his garage. He said that out of 6 guys, not one of them could find a nail that would work with their nailers, so the pile just sat there in his garage.

He wouldn't say where that pile of nails came from, but I think that explains why it's hard to find the 44c nails. Employees are taking them home.

A little earlier in this thread there was a post or two saying some stores were setting them in the back of the store and allowing contractors to grab what they needed. Maybe your guy did the same?

Last chance for this before I return it. I bought it for a guy that requested it since his store was out of stock. He never responded after I bought it. I hate being the nice guy sometimes.

20.03 plus tax and 11.30 shipping flat rate unless you have a commercial address it may be cheaper ups

See if a pawn shop will take it for more

Speaking of pawn shops, just tried 3 of them in my town to buy the nails. 2 said no thanks, one led me on and on about how he was interested. He goes on telling me that he talked to his contractor buddy who buys them for $27 a box. I said I have them all on Craigslist at $20 a box, but would be willing to sell them at bulk cheaper at $10 each. He said he was interested in buying them all, and asked for a figure for all 200 boxes.

I replied "well 200 boxes at $10 each would be $2000, but I'll do $1500 if you want them all."

"No I can't do that"

"Well you said you wanted them all...how's $1000?"

"I think I'll pass"

Thanks for wasting 30 minutes of my life. I guess he was expecting $1 per box or something. I never did like pawn shops
