That is crazy. How long ago did u buy the saw?
I am not sure, but no matter how old it is this is unacceptable for how well it was taken care of and the great condition it was in.

This needs to be reported beyond just a complaint to Sears. Facebook is another good idea.
(struggling to resist comment on PVC pipe)
But seriously, glad you're ok. That looks scary as heck.
Mine blew apart about 10 years ago. Brand new and on the second cut on a 2x4. Found pieces stuck in the wall 20 feet away. I wasn't scared at first, but sad. I had saved for over a year to buy it and now it was a pile of broken pieces. When I saw the damage to my shield, then I got scared. I had on safety glasses, but also a full face shield. The shield had several deep gouges in it that would have been my face if I had just work glasses.
I called the local Sears and they replaced it with no question. The new one has been doing fine for 10+ years now.
Coach
Am I missing something about cutting PVC pipe?
Of you want people to see your post, you can reach out on the craftsman Facebook page. If you make it public, they will contact you quickly to resolve the issue.
Was cutting a notch in pvc pipe with a radial arm saw years ago. First couple cuts ok then pipe spun into blade and exploded. Violent explosion.
Well, two things. The "right" answer would be that cutting pipe on a chop saw is risky if the pipe isn't clamped down, because it likes to spin and grab in the blade. The "risque" snarky answer would be to question if said pipe contained pressurized air...
I will be wearing a full face shield from now on though, I was completely missed by all flying debris, But I guess it was a trade have it happen later and get completely missed by debris or have it happen earlier and have debris hit your face-shield.
Please point these out in your pictures.the laser guide flew apart into two pieces
OK, glad you didn't get hurt.
Now, what specifically have you done so far. Who have you talked to and what did they say?
Finally, what is it you want?...a new saw?, or something more?
This is definitely a group of tool experts but if you joined to get legal or customer relations advice, you need to know that as a whole we **** at that.
No offense friend, but I'm not going to do that. You have the same internet we all do.

Call them direct, make up a name and tell them you are your attorneyLook up sears executive customer service and email them. Last time I had a major problem with sears, a single email (and a follow up phone call) was all it took to solve it.
. That'll get'em off their asses. Please point these out in your pictures.

And that is hands-down the worst advice in an already questionable thread.Call them direct, make up a name and tell them you are your attorney. That'll get'em off their asses.
Once it's settled quit buying garbage from a failed company.
there should be no comment on the PVC pipe because it exploded before the blade even touched the pipe at all the only cut on the pipe was the result of a piece of the lower guard that flew off the cut was slanted and curved in a way that was impossible for the blade to do and it was 2 inches away from the blade.
The pipe had nothing to do with it. the blade did not even touch the pipe.
For this type of lawsuit to win at trial, you have to PROVE negligence on Sears part, happen to have an email from Royobi say thing the laser will fall of and kill people unless you approve the cost for this new mount"
Funny how the tide flows in then flows back out.
Do not tell Sears you were about to cut PVC, if it goes into a legal battle, even though you did not cut it they can use that info against you.

Get real man. Tools break, things happen and power tools are dangerous. Breath in, breath out and move on
For my own knowledge - why would pvc pipe be too much for any blade in a miter saw? Its plastic and the blade is designed for in my thoughts, harder material.
Now, given that cutting pvc isnt a known problem, I would skip the phone tag run around with craftsman and carry the saw down to craftsman and put it on their desk. If the regular clerk wouldnt at least replace the saw, Id ask for the manager, and the next and so on.
If they truly wont budge, atleast make enough of a scene on a Saturday to deter other customers from using craftsman tools.
I have had mostly good experience with craftsman, although Id say I like my older craftsman stuff better then the modern day Chinese specials.
