Finally, my "vise drought" is over. I picked up 4 of the, yesterday. 2 Chinese bench vises, 1 C-Man 4.5" bench vise and a mystery woodworking vise.

I know that not many here like the Chinese vises, but they're good money makers if I buy them right.

The C-Man vise will get restored I'll find a new home for it. I like that style of C-Man vises because they're easy to do a 3 tone paint job on.

The woodworking vise is a complete mystery to me. No markings except a stamping on the mounting flange. I've posted several pictures of it.
Does anyone know about this one? Thanks in advance.

I call this a usable restoration. I'm still undecided on painting the letters. I went with red because I have a red toolbox that goes on the lower shelf of the table.

blind,
Great looking restoration!
I vote that the letters should be painted . Just my preference. The only vise restoration I did without painting the letters was my Wilton Bullet, because I wanted it to look like it came out of the box.
BTW: You called your vise a usable restoration. What is an unusable restoration?

I think most of the vises on here are too nice to use so I think of them as unusable. I didn't want to spend crazy time trying to make it perfect because I know it's going to get marred up. I'll still be careful with it.

I think your restoration looks good as any other. You should still paint the letters.

Buddy of mine took his boys to a logging museum the other day and sent me these photos. I don't have any particular information to share about anything other than to please enjoy them.

.

It looks like a larger version of this YOST I finished a few weeks ago. I had to look at that picture for a minute to figure it out also.

Another old Parker listed in Connecticut. I don't really like the under bench swivels.

âºâºâºAntique PARKER Bench Vise 1897 $100

This vise is interesting to me because the underbench clamp system is intact. The handle looks like the date is 1867, also. Can't see the patent number on the side of the vise. The model is a 2200.

Saw a nice blacksmith vise and stand and posted it here last week, but ended up missing out on buying it.

This morning I purchased this from a fellow in Bobcaygeon. 173lbs, 7 1/4" jaws, 37" from the bottom of the foot to the top of the jaws. Paid just under $1.25/lb! I'm going to make a nice stand from a beat up 80s Chevy 14-bolt, and make this a housewarming present for a co-worker.

That's a 1-1/2" JIC fitting, for comparison. I'll take more pictures later when I clean it up this weekend. No idea on manufacturer, too much caked on ****.

I guess I'll sell my fixed mount Reed

I saw that. Looks really nice! I'm about 20 min from going to buy it. Hopefully it's as clean as described and in good shape like my 104r.

Here it is. In even better condition than my 104R. Has smooth jaws just like Gazedo's, which I prefer over serrated. I have other serrated jaw vises for heavy work needing the extra grip. The slide is in near perfect shape. Just some surface rust. The handle spins like a top. I will be just oiling and using this one as is for now. Also 4 mounting points line the 104R. Weighs 53 lbs. the 104R weighs 43 pounds.

Well you all pushed me. I had some silver auto touchup paint so I gave it a shot. Came out pretty good considering how shaky I am.
Here's the large pics. How do you post a small pic with a link to a large one?

Oldie: good eye and i'd never seen that Parker design before. you might be correct because i think there is something sitting on top of the jaws that make it look like a swivel jaw that TOP is guessing.

Blind: just a tip. the guys were only saying what you were thinking otherwise you wouldn't have asked about lettering. nice job BTW. can you see the paperclip just above where you write your posts? click on that and browse to pick a picture, then download and save and you'll have thumbnails of your vise that we can click on twice and have a full size picture. the pictures you posted were fine too, but you wanted to know so hope this helps. or ask again if you need some.

cheers

What? No lecture on the joys of non-swiveling? I can't believe you passed such an opportunity! :shocking:

Old eyes...:(

Sometimes, you just don't see an opportunity...:dunno:

Dammit!!!:lol_hitti

I'll try to do better...

(Look at my "An Old Man's Rambling", or "Feet Swollen???...Feet Hurt???"--- thread...My relief will explain my missing a free shot...)

A little vise with 3-1/2" jaws and 4" max opening.

This little vise has a nice looking locking swivel lever and although it has an exposed screw, it has a very long sliding bar below it.

Haven't found any mfg name, so wondered if anyone knows the Mfg or Country of Origin.

Mike

Normally the bar is only a couple of inches longer than the screw ? I don't know who the maker is but that style comes with many different names on them. Some of them have the
standard type base lock instead of the cast handle which I like better. It looks like you might be able to hold a small piece of round with those grooves under the jaws. The jaws look like they are welded on so my guess it is an older US made one ?

I reckon the slide isn't original. It appears to be bolted from the front and the detail where it joins the dynamic jaw looks like it had originally been cast or welded in place so wouldn't have needed that bolt. As GET says it's too long for the screw and if used at full extent would rip the threads out of the main body.

The Athol 023 line went through several changes with swivel locks, jaws, pipe jaw inserts, etc. But the overall design remained consistent and follows the appearance closely of the two vises posted. Namely the long slide bar and shorter screw plus the anvil/flat-horn area on Kevin's is an exact match. Good luck finding any info on the 023 though, doesn't seem to be much out there. If I hadn't had some to refinish over the years I wouldn't know anything about them.

I don't know if this was posted before but I just saw these pictures of Chip Foose's vise. I wouldn't expect anything less from him. Obviously just a show piece but still sick!
