Sunday I mounted the new tire on the rear wheel, and put it back on my ST, installed the hitch for my Bushtec trailer, and then proceeded to remove the front wheel and fender in order to change the front tire and do a fork seal replacement. Took a fair bit of time to clean all the gunk off the fender, and breaking the bead on the tire required assistance from a neighbor. Now, the assistance didn't amount to much, just "stand there" in order to weight the platform I have my tire changer mounted on. Once the platform was restrained, all the bead breaker's force could go into the tire rather than being distributed between the tire and levering the other end of the platform. Lickety split the front tire was changed. I still have to balance it, and wait for the seal driver tool to get here, then it's on to the adventure of fork seal replacement, a new frontier for me.

Continued working on building a goose blind today. I'm using parts salveged from a shelter logic greenhouse that a tree fell on a few years ago.

Here's a pic of the old green house showing the top end of the tree, the **** end is on the other side.

Finished assembling the goose blind frame today. Since the tree bent up a lot of components, including upper corner pieces, I took the four corner feet and rebent them. They initially had an eighty degree or so bend. Not having a tubing bender, I improvised and stretched them out to around 112 degrees.

Here is the frame set up in the Sportsmen's Deluxe configuration, which can also be used for deer hunting. It's 4 ft deep by 8 ft wide and 7 ft to the peak. I have a couple sets of extra legs so it will have four possible height arrangements. By removing the legs completely, it can be used as a ground blind with a pop open roof and two people can sit back to back.

The roll of straw mat will be used for one of it's skins, several are planned.

Cleaned out 1 bay of estate sale finds so I could get the Mustang back in. Unpacked the new convertible top and prepared everything for starting the installation tomorrow.

Worked on removal of the old top today. Man, those instructions were not even close to being complete. Even the YouTube videos were only trailers to advertise DVDs for sale. Ultimately, a keen mind and a good google-side manner got it done. I took LOTS of pictures to help remember how it all goes back together.

Friend of mine owns a pretty good sized service shop in town. Long story short one of the members of the forum I own has his boat in the shop right now. A bearing had failed on iOS water pump and the pulley rubbed the housing and made a mess of things. I ended up clearance get the pulley a little and adding a chamfer. Just did it as a favor to the shop owner and member.

Well, found this small office appliance in my neighbors trash so I brought it into the garage...almost rust free!
...nice score for free!!!! :bounce:

So I took out the lock to see if I can get a set of keys made...it has a number on the face.
I also added a handle for the fold down door/desktop and a magnet up top to keep it from falling until I get a lock.

Here it is open...will be using for a packing and shipping station for our Croftgate customers.

that look awesome. You should paint it to match your tool boxes and put it on a frame with some casters!!

I put the final coat of paint on a new ramp for my trailer. Used a 2X12 doug fir, mixed up a small batch of paint, dumped a couple handfuls of sand in it, and painted the top of the ramp. It is rough as heck just what I wanted for loading a bike.

Working on the mother-in-law's jaguar, she had a check engine light for misfiring and failing catayst self test.

Had to change both valve cover gaskets due to them leaking oil in the spark plug gallery.

I have a pic of the passenger side without the cover but cant' get it off my phone for some reason.

New gasket and cover back on,

After this job, these two became my favorite tools during the job, a one inch 1/4" extension made the shallow socket fit in tight place and allow me to turn the socket still in the recess, and the flex wrench was a blessing in the tight space where the nut that held the wiring harness plastic collector in place.
img_20150811_222356299_hdr.jpg

But due to wrong plugs, the store gave me some iranium plugs thats gapped at .040 and factory calls for .052, I have to wait for the new plugs to ship in to finish the job.

Another addition. I grabbed this in hi-def off Da Nett, took it to town for printing, cut some 18 ga. steel and glued it all together. Decor for my shop.
Respect for my favorite companies. For an idea the Armstrong is 26 x 5 inches.

My wife complained yesterday that one of her dresser drawers was falling out. I investigated today to find that the hardwood runner had split the edges off of the dovetail that it slides in. Whipped up a new one from some maple scrap on the table saw.

Pretty nice for using just a table saw.
Well done.

Yanked the engine out of my '84 Nissan 720 today.

Almost 2 years ago it blew a head gasket. I started putting it back together (just got the head on) and had problems with the timing chain (tensioner came apart). Have to either pull the head or pull the oil pan to get the front cover off. Dropped the front diff, couldn't get the pan loose (31 years of being baked on). Life gets in the way, and that brings us up to today... weather was nice outside, so I thought I'd roll the engine hoist outside and pull the engine.

Engine's out, finally broke the seal of the oil pan (took a BFH and a pointy-wedged prybar). Got the timing chain tensioner back in place. Went inside to clean up and have supper, will keep going another day.

Finally got around to painting my rear bumper.

Warning: If you use Rustoleum "Bright Finish" paint bombs, take them seriously, it is bright and will show the slightest blemish! I used filler and primer several times on these 23-year-old fiberglass bumpers, sanded with 400 and 800, you can still see many small defects! Good thing its a race car and not a show pony.

Freshened up the carb on my little roto tiller, helicoiled two engine mounting holes that were boogered from years of use without checking fastners, and 'cold-welded' a broken off mounting ear.

All back together, ready to finish prepping the garden for fall.

Yesterday was an ATV ride so this weekend "in the garage" consists of getting the Outlander ready, then washed and put away.

License plate "disappeared" from the trailer while I was riding or driving and I was stopped by police and I got a small fine ($30). Now I get to plan going and getting it replaced and I can report next week in this thread that I installed it on the trailer! :)

Yesterday - Installed bluetooth speakers on the back patio. That was the easy part. Fighting red wasps under the eaves, then pulling speaker cable, & wiring the 120v receptacle & switch in the 130* attic were the fun parts of the day.

Got cleaned up & went to some friends kid's birthday party. When I got home, I replaced the 3 idlers on my mower deck, cleaned & put up my tools, then proceeded to drink bourbon while watching Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.

Today - I'm pulling the 6 ft mirror that I cracked out of the guest bathroom, sand & paint the wall behind it, then bathing the dogs.

Installed freshly powder coated valve covers on the Audi today.

...

Those look great!

10 Extra HP with red valve covers!

I haven't checked in here for awhile due to personal and business obligations but couldn't let this one pass us by.

Not at all intending to demean or bash the results on your Audi, please take this in the spirit it's intended: to EDUCATE the less informed so you know what to expect from a job done right.

Do you see all those little bumps and defects on the left side?? That's what is called "outgassing," and it's something that happens every time to aluminum if the proper prep steps are not followed before the part is coated.

Basically, aluminum is very porous. It has all kinds of air pockets and impurities in it which become trapped there when it's originally formed. When a piece is heated to powder coating cure temperature, all of that air and the **** in the metal comes to the surface where it blows right through your powder. That's why your finish is not smooth and uniform as it should be.

Do your homework before hiring anybody for your metal finishing on your pride and joy (or letting your buddy who just got a HF set up do it). Check references, ask to see real work samples on the same kind of metal you'll be finishing, make sure they're experienced, and above all know what they're doing. Sadly, there are "powder coaters" on every corner nowadays and it's the real truth that quite a few of them seem to be merely practicing on your parts.

Carry on ladies and gentlemen ....... and to stay on topic, here's some Powder **** from my shop since I've been lax in getting in the door around here lately.
