We all spend a fair amount of time in our garages, working on cars, trucks, hobbies of all kinds. Some, I'm sure, have a punching bag for some kicks or a warm up ... but does anyone have a section that they use for CrossFit, or some kind of fairly intense work out?

Myself ... I have a plyo box, 1 pood (36lb) kettle bell, a pair of 50lb dummbells, squat rack, 350+ lbs of bumper plates and an old an old Olympic bar. I have a few horse mats laid out, and have in the works a lifting platform. Not really usable in it's current location, but I'm working on it ...

So does anyone else have some space set aside to break a little sweat? You have a routine or favorite move?

I really want to but after getting the cars in there i don't have much space left. I own a CrossFit affiliate that is less than 10min from my house so i haven't been able to justify buying new equipment for my house yet. I do have an Airdyne in there for now. I think eventually i'll get some more and just pull the car out so i have the full two car available without having to worry about damaging anything.

Garage space is too valuable to use as work out space. Maybe one day I'll have enough room but I prefer to "go to the gym".

I like the social aspect of it

I do 16, 22, and 24 oz curls in my garage on a regular basis. I do high reps with the lighter weights and low reps with the heavier ones. I like to change my training methodologies often but this size weight range is my preference. Depending on how much energy I have I do less some days. Rough days at work I like to lift the heavy ones with high reps if I have the energy to make it happen. Usually sleep very well afterwards and sometimes workout so hard I struggle to walk to bed.

I've got a Rogue cage mounted in the corner and some horse mats. I can do everything I used to do at the Crossfit gym at home.

Vocs: I'm pretty sure you meant pounds and not oz (ounces) for your weights, but those are good weights to work out with.

ALL: I have two single garages next to each other. one is my wife's with one of my workbenches in the end of it and the other is mine that might be 9 x 16 with the walkway at the end of it for her and the kids to get back and forth. i have a few pictures of what you can cram into a 9 x 16 garage if you want some nice gym equipment, but since this is crossfit i'll mention what i did on my wife's side.

i bought rubber horse mats that are 4 x 6 foot and 3/4 inch thick and put them down in both garages. on her side i took out the hanging storage and put up a chin up bar and a mount for a punching bag with a TV with a DVD player above my bench for P90x or other workouts.

if you don't have much room just pull out the car and you are ready to go with a few dumbbells and a chin up bar. i have a landmine and here is link of one similar to one i own with some workouts. http://www.jensinkler.com/ben-brunos-total-body-landmine-circuit/

i sold gym equipment for several years after retiring from Real Estate almost 10 years ago and saw a lot of interesting ways to work out. i put a few things left of my gym in the garage into my old office that was a kid's bedroom for years. i do have a versaclimber in the garage I've managed to find a spot for and if you haven't ever tried one do and tell me how you like it. i have a thread in free parking looking for good ideas other than just a full out workout for two minutes before i almost fall off and pray i don't have a heart attack.

since Cross fit is meant to really just use the every day muscles to get in shape you can do almost anything to work out. one of the strongest and most fit guys i knew pulled a log up and down a hill on the backside of his property with a rope. he asked me for a couple 100 pound plates so he could use a chain on them when the ground was hard. he was the only guy on that hill who didn't have any weeds growing on his bank or trees in the way of his view.

if any of you have questions about gym equipment just post here or if you are close to buying something you can PM me if i miss this thread which i probably won't because i'm interested in this topic now that i'm getting in shape again.

cheers all

My workshop is still in progress but I plan to have some stuff out there. I have rings in my other garage for muscle ups. Really I prefer to just go to Crossfit as I'm more motivated if I'm not by myself.

Working on box jump-

This felt like a workout-

My son converted his two car garage into a Crossfit gym he teaches out of. He installed a wall braced lifting rack with a jillion rubber coated plates, and covered the entire floor with horse stall mats from Tractor Supply. The garage has twelve foot ceiling so he was able to install free rings for air work. Oh yeah, all his clients are women and his wife is OK with that since they are paying customers.

I sped things up a bit as sales came and i found equipment cheap on craigslist.

Right now this is the equipment list:
Airdyne
2x 20kg barbells
1x 15kg barbell
8x 45lb bumper plates
8x 24lb bumper plates
6x 10lb bumper plates
stall mats from Tractor Supply

I'm going to put a sheet of plywood down for weightlifting right in front of the squat rack then shift and cut a stall mat to fit that corner.

I have a heavy bag for boxing, and a Wate-Man Ultra Star II bench, along with about 600 lbs of weight and several bars. But, I joined a gym nearly a year ago, and go there 3 times a week. I won't get rid of my stuff, but am going to break it down this year, as the footprint will garner me another 70 square feet.

I've recently added a 23x20 garage on the the rear of my existing attached garage. My 14x12 screened-in porch was torn down and converted to a room off the garage for a weight room. We've got a full rack, incline/decline bench, ~1000 lbs of weight, 2 weight trees and a platform we use for cleans and deadlifts. The room was originally purposed to be sort of a "clean" room for building engines, transmissions, etc. That was before the weightlifting bug bit me again.

We have a Bow flex on the wifes side of shop.
You make the wife walk out to the garage to hang the laundry? Put up a clothesline outside and you can get rid of that Bow Flex on craigslist and gain space in the garage. People are always looking for treadmills and Bow Flexes on craigslist for more places to hang clothes.
