ALL: I'm almost thinking of painting a vise maybe ARREST ME RED because i have a bench clean again too.

I want to put in for a MINION now please.

i don't own a can of ARREST ME RED but one of my vises might have came to me that way. is this one close? maybe you can talk TOP out of that non swiveling Craftsman and i'm sure he as a road trip heading your way some day soon because his area should be cleaned up by now.

You were Close. But Fretters got it alright [emoji106]. It's a magnetic base. The Allen Key on the side is used to engage the magnet. You can place it anywhere on the table and twist the key and it sticks like glue.
Just need to clean off the surface rust and she's as good as new.

Bagged: the hardy's can be made and are more for decoration. i think Balane makes some of his missing hardy/cutters out of a bolt, but you'll have to search this thread or ask him.

Yeah, 3s, 6s, 8s, and 9s, seem to get mixed up a lot on rusty worn old tools.

Picked this 4" USA Yost off CL. It was rusty and stiff so I gave it a rub down with the wire wheel and a fresh coat of fomoco blue. Nice little project for a rainy Sat afternoon.

Interestingly I could not find the model number cast anywhere, just "Y". Does anyone know what model it is? I couldn't find anything online about a model "Y".

Bagged, just when I think I've seen every possible odd little vise on the planet, somebody drags out another one.---Now I'm thinking there may be hundreds of odd ones out there somewhere, tucked away under benches for fifty years, just waiting for the, (forgive me for saying it), proprietor to pass on.

Eric, I think the "Y" is just like a trademark for Yost. I have one that was made around 1920 with the same Y on the side.

The seller sent me these. It's a Heuer with 5" jaws. Is the handle end supposed to go into the hub?

Yea I'm thinking the one I'm getting and the 2 KM posted are pre 1950s. Maybe even pre WWII. I believe the newer models have replaceable jaw inserts. I'll have to do some more research after I have it in my hands. I believe this one says DRP on the side.

I think they are drill press vises. They look like the vises on my press. As far as I can tell there are no parts missing. BTW the vise on the right looks like the main screw is not Acme thread. Not a problem but it's odd. I think you paid a fair price for them. (Forget about the non-acme business. I enlarged the picture and it was still hard to tell but I now think that it is Acme just very fine. Not sure though.)

Hey guys here is what I wrote a while back and Monte from Germany added this video on page 839 post #16763. If you have time check out the video on these German made vises. Wish Sandman would chime in, he has more information on these vises. I added a couple more pictures of German vises.
I worked with many German Toolmakers and they all were very meticulous in their work. I enjoyed listening to them talk about their upbringing. Some were not down with Hitler. One I worked with in New York at the TJ Watson Research Center gave me his tools after he retired so they could keep making tools. I use Jerry's tools everyday and understand why he did what he did.

Those vises in my previous post are from Sandman, the black one is a Prentiss #58, so the ones in the back are 7"-8" vises. The post vises are German and over 8" too. Sandman has a nice vise collection and it is growing.

Picked up these vises today. NOS Palmgren, Stanley machinist vise, Craftsman XY table with a custom made base for a drill press table, Eron 75.

More I look at that Eron, more I like it! The XY table looks brand new

Dug up this 1946 Wilton No.4 from my dad's shed the other day and gave it a makeover. It was locked up tight but cleaned up nicely with a little vinegar and brute force.

Also took delivery of a Columbian 504 1/2 the other day.
