I had a few detail supplies that never seemed to have a good home that was also easily accessible.. So, fabbed up a quick box/hanger for the side of my toolbox. I also HATE when my wheel brush sits on a counter or horizontal surface and then ends up with a huge case of flat-spot bed-head..
Fits a handful of bottles and the brush, and also has drains so nothing accumulates in the box.

I put a couple of file cabinets along one wall of my garage. Works great for general storage. So much tidier than what I had there previously. Everything is out of sight and stays free from dust etc.

I think they look great, now they need some cool graphics on them.
Either some colored strips that tie them together, or a big sticker
that covers a big chunk of them, trimmed around the drawers. Maybe
a big race track like these.

only problem with those cabinets, is they either need to be modified, or taken off and put on the floor. I can't see a way to access the top ones without a ladder at all. Yea, maybe you can open it, but you won't be able to get into them without a ladder.

Yeah the top 2 draws require ladder to access. But that's kind of the point - utilising the entire vertical space right up to the ceiling for storage. This isn't in my workshop area where all my tools, consumables and regular use stuff is, these are for pure storage so I just put the once in blue moon stuff in those top drawers.

I like the big sticker idea, hadn't thought of that but a huge one across the lot of them would be cool.

Posted some of this in here about 5 years ago but the pictures are long gone. The ATV wheels for cord and air hose storage were some cheap Craigslist finds. The mower trailer set up gets it up and out of the way and because you just wheel the back edge up to the wall, pivot it up and hook the chain on it my wife doesn't need my involvement. The coated steel cable shown in the full shot is just an extra level of insurance because if the chain ever let go in the middle of the night, it would fall into my truck's rear quarter. I had the cable laying around collecting dust already so it was also cheap insurance. In one picture you can also see one of my extension/tall step ladder brackets made from scrap 2x4. The wall cabinet is not really anything special but was a nice NOS parts cabinet found on Ebay. Its nice and deep so I can store less often used stuff behind the front and center cans. It hangs above where my sliding stainless top MAC tool cart is usually parked so it makes a good spot for quick parts cleaning or ratchet maintenance type tasks.

Old Oil and antifreeze jugs work well as storage bins. They don't get all moldy if it's damp in the garage. They are easy to pick up and take with you, More convienant than the boxes that screws and nails come in, and after your oil change, they are free. I have an old card file cabinet that these fit great in. It works well for me anyways.

Not mine but I've got some that are very similar....

Most of the containers appear to be motor oil or transmission fluid. The bigger ones appear to be anti-freeze. The different sizes are good for longer bolts/nails.

Agree..what's cool about this also is the fact that its recycling material that would otherwise end up in the landfill...

I agree that we need to keep it out of the landfill but the main reason I do it is I'm a cheapskate.

started building a storage rack behind the shed for the bigger stuff. corrigated roof is pretty steep so it should keep off most of the snow weight. still need to add more bracing and another shelf and some curtain type thing for winter. http://thatcherworks.blogspot.com/2014/09/covered-storage-rack.html

This is a great idea. I enjoy making rustic furniture and this would be great to store left over scrap wood that I dont mind aging.

Stealing this idea!! :3gears:

Figured I'd post a few of mine. I'm so spacialy challenged that I need every bit of vertical real estate available. Please excuse the mess, I was an organized person believe it or not before my two kids entered my life.

Here's a closeup of the hooks I fabbed out of some scrap I had around. I've made a mess of these in various configurations to try and get stuff vertical.

Nice! How did you do the bending?
You can always clamp it in a vice along side of a pipe and bend it that way. Easiest if you haven't cut the materials to length. Also easier to bend with a little heat from a simple propane torch applied.

Just go for it [emoji3]

HELP--I'm looking to build some type of hose and cord hanger. I've got some rather large hoses - about 4' diameter, plus sizes ranging from 12"-36", and all in between. Storage is a nightmare and I cant figure out a way to store them in a way so that I can get to them without having to pull off 10 hoses to get to the one in the back. And I've got probably 50+ extension cords, and 20 or so water hoses, quite a few 2.5" rigid sump hoses, and 2"-4" insulation blowing hoses-about 500-700' of that, AND numerous other hoses and cables/cords. Now how can I organize all that mess in a way that takes up less space and is accessible?

I'm going to copy this as soon as I find some empty wall space.

Are there any pictures on here of your fire fighter wall? It looks great.

I know I have one on there somewhere.. I searched but couldn't find. I believe that GJ achieves older posts, so maybe that's why I cannot find it or... who knows. Anyway...Enjoy. Tribute it to Ed Dobski and Frank Henry SBFD...

I hung these shelves (originally from Craftsman workbench backwall kits I got on clearance for ten bucks a piece) to organize my garage fluids and spray paints.

Nice! How did you do the bending?

I took his idea (thanks) and I did the bending with my bare hands by leaving lots of extra length to use for leverage. The 1/4" round bar bent without much resistance around a 3" diameter tube. I didn't need any heat or anything.

I'd post a pic but they look the same, just different dimensions.

That's a great idea for the extensions, so easy to copy as well adapt for ratchets and screwdrivers!!! I gonna do this to my built in workbench.
Nice idea for the air tools too! It'd be real easy for most people to make it off alum angle.

Thanks, they were driving me nuts rolling around everytime I opened my toolbox. Plus with the plexiglass, I think it just looks cool.
