Does anyone know who made these? Judging by their construction, and the markings on the cheek (sizes not antique style - "4", "5/0", but not modern style either, which usually incorporates a model number), I am guessing 1940's or early 1950's at best. But I am not familiar with the Super Duty brand (outside of modern Ford trucks). Super, Super Quality, etc was a Duro-Chrome brand, and they were fond of arcing their brand names on tools. But I have never seen "Super Duty" before.

The hickory handle (called a "Smokey") on the 2 lber was made by the Swan Handle Corp, if that helps anyone. I've never heard of them either. The 4 ozer has the illegible remains of a sticker in the same place on the handle.

Hey Ganymede,

Check it out!

"This is a brand page for the SUPER DUTY trademark by Simonds Industries Inc. in FITCHBURG, MASS."
Oh cool. 1928!
It's under category of ' yarns and threads' though.
I wonder if they could use it for other stuff too or had to re file ?

I love this place always learning something new everyday!:thumbup:

Resurrecting this, as it was my first hit googling "super Duty ball peen hammer"

Anyone got any further on these?

A bit more google-fu indicates both Barco and Nupla have used "super Duty" in recent years, but I don't think they had anything to do with those older era hammers:

An 8 Oz BP I picked up yesterday; the head looks unused, the handle cleaned up real nice with Murphy's

There are remnants of black paint on the head and that and the handle look original.

does anyone know if there had been a Thread started for ID'ing hammers? (I know that would be a tough cookie, but the basic styling is often a good indicator for the companies that made them to be branded by others...

OK Google-fu wan't terribly helpful but a search on Eprey verified "super Duty" and a Simonds Rip Hammer:

So seems to confirm that link.
