FREE TO GOOD HOME: If you need this then send me a PM and I'll mail it to you. It says 584 Williams Made W USA on one side and 7/16 on the other. The length is 4 3/4. If you post a reply here then I'll know to check PM.

That's a lathe tool holder wrench.

Here's a small Record No. 3S I picked up at a yard sale. It was essentially unused except for some fine rust on the bare metal.

After applying the EvapoRust and a swipe of wax, here's an exploded view:

Assembled view:

And here's a shot comparing an original finish to Tremclad Gloss Dark Blue. The Tremclad is a slightly darker hue.

Beautiful work!!

I'm not exactly sure where to put this since i'm not selling anything but i have an older Reed vice with 4" jaws, don't know the model #, that has a broken off rear jaw that i ended up giving a few parts away to Trijeff for his Reed but now it's just sitting in my garage and i'd really hate to scrap it if someone could use some parts off it. So if you have a smaller Reed and need parts for it let me know. I gotta get a pic of it but i keep forgetting so posting this should remind me to grab the pics and i'll put them up when i get a chance.

Thinking about driving 50 miles to purchase a Wilton 645 vise for $40. I only have a description, no pictures. I spoke to the owner on the phone and am convinced it's complete and in good condition. Is it worth the effort?

Edit: This will be my first Wilton vise

It's not bad, but a 646 is not a bullet, and may be made in China, unless it is very old, then would be made in the USA. If it was a C series, machinist, or even tradesman, I would say why aren't you in your car yet :)

CRSINMICH, nice haul you have there.

Bagged, I am late to the party but the guy that backed is a loser twice over. One for backing out a couple of hours before showing up, and two because he missed out on an awesome vise. That was a great restore with spectacular jaws.

Hey guys, anyone recognize what kind of vise this is? Looks bullet-shaped, but I don't recognize the stamping.

Edit: Having trouble with the image. Trying again! Anyone ever see a Wilton with "INDUSTRIAL" written on the body? Is it possible this is from a different manufacturer?

Not to spam up the place, but doing some more research I found a thread (on a different board) about the same exact vise! Apparently it has been on craigslist before; I was thinking about buying it just now.

http://www.thegaragegazette.com/index.php?topic=26132.0

They seemed to think this was a Wilton knockoff. Anyone know differently?

Thanks! Credit for the Record is due to Thrumcap, though. I only dream of English vises that look that good.

If the main screw w/handle is still available, I might be interested to compete a 104 that's missing a handle.

Well it only took a week or so of looking locally and this popped up on Craigslist on Sunday. Just picked it up this evening. I'm going to clean it up a little bit and pretty much leave it as is. I thought $150 was a pretty fair price.

Are the dates stamped somewhere on the Wilton vises and, if so, where?

This was a Stanley table clamp vise which was converted for permanent mounting. 2" jaws, 3 pounds.

Wow Balane, that thing is nice. I would have that on my desk as a paperweight. Nice job! Tell us about the conversion, any before pictures?

CRS: i'm never sure if the Emmert vises have all their parts becasue they have so many moving ones. so if yours does congrats on that find even if it's in upside down or backwards like Joe mentioned.

Eagle: you did great for $150 for that Wilton. pull out the dynamic slide all the way and look on the key way for the date it was made. you might have to rub hard with a rag to see it. we have a Wilton date stamp thread in vintage tools you can post up more pictures if yours is older than 1970.

nice find now get a big old US made Reed, Rock Island, Prentiss or several others and you are set for life.

Thank you.

I don't have a photo of the actual one I have but here's a web pic of the exact same model. Also, a photo of the bottom of mine after the work. I cut off the clamp part with a band saw which left a little stub. Then I smoothed it all flat with a 6" belt sander.

Thanks. Definitely my favorite mini vises are the ones which look like shrunken down industrial sized models. (Although I realize Stanley hassn't make a model like that.)

zkling: Thanks for clearing that up.

FMC: Thanks

joe: That's the way the Emmert came to me. All I've done is clean the words for the photo shoot. I think that brass medallion came from a shop too. Notice it's number 1. Thanks for the pix. They should be helpful. BTW do you have the parts that go over the nubs on the jaws? I saw a picture somewhere and they are shaped sort of like home plate.

xxaler: No the Emmert did not come from Ontario, although I could actually see Ontario from where I got it. That's all I can tell you. It was a private sale and I don't want my name to be taken off the invitation list. I got ALL of those vises there for $250 US.

mbs: You only live a mile away. Get your patootie over here and look at it in person.

TO ALL: There's a Damon Runyonesque story about buying those vises. Be good and I may tell it to you sometime.

Thanks. That was his asking price and he was willing to hold it for me for a couple of days as I was out of town. Didn't even try to haggle.

Just pulled out the slide to get the manufacture date: 7 88 very plainly stamped. It's clearly been used quite a bit since 1988 but it works smooth as silk.

One other question for someone. I want to mount it on the corner of the bench. There doesn't seem to be an orientation that allows the back jaw to hang over the edge in two directions. The base is not square (7" OC bolt holes and 5.5" OC) and it appears that the wider side of the base is meant to go to the edge of the table. When you square it up that way and turn the vise 90 degrees the back jaw will miss the edge of the table by about a 1/2". Am I missing something here?

Actually Stanley made that same clamp-on in a bench mount version... Extremely rare however..

Had to ask, friend recently sold one but wouldn't tell me who or where the buyer came from. Got $1100 for this.

Nice job balane, I bet you built models when you was a kid. Really like the detailed painting you did. I have been collecting these vises too, they would make cool little bench vises if they had a swivel base. Another stellar vise.

Any thoughts on the vintage of the Columbian 203 1/2 combination vise? On the far side it just says COLUMBIAN in straight block letters. With the T shaped jaws and not being an M2 or M3 variant, I presume it is an early one. Does anyone know the differences of this version compared to the M2 or M3 variants?

Fortunately this one was treated pretty well and in spite of a little rust is in really nice shape. Looking at the condition of the jaws I do not think it was used very much.
