The front wall will be split stone up to the eaves to match the house. The window in the gable is set to match the house as well. It looks too high as it is but it looks right on the house so once the stone and vinyl is on it will look better.

I think it ended up just over 22'. I had to obtain a variance, the city I live in has an 18' max for detached structures.

 Very nice. One question....what's up with the double doors and separate room they lead into. Storage?

Right. It was originally to have a roll up door and is for lawn and garden stuff. I don't want that stuff cluttering up my shop. The wife saw a roll up on a neighbors garage and vetoed it so I went with the double. It won't be very ergo but it was a change made on the fly. Thier is also a small room for the water heater (radiant floor heat) and compressor also.

I am replacing the kitchen cabinets in the house and am going to use the old ones in the shop.

My intention is to paint them flat black and then face the doors with galvanized steel. My cousin is a tin knocker and has a shear and brake. I can get the steel at cost and he is a freak when it comes to working with the tin. He makes coolers and boxes from scratch that are amazing.

I had a co-worker of mine wire the switch boxes and breaker panel. He is one of those **** retentive types. They best type to ask for help.

Three 3-way switches in one box... makes my eyes glaze over.:wtf:

DSC02600.jpg

I pulled all the wire and did the outlets and fixtures, you know... the stuff that trained chimps can do. :headscrat

A little more progress. The borrowed scissor lift made the ceiling almost painless.

I'm the fat old guy in the gray tshirt.

This is a view of the storage and mechanical rooms. I am going to squeeze the water heater for the in floor heat and the air compressor in a 5x5 room that will be well vented into the 5x15 storage room.

Wow, I need to take some pics.

I am going to buy some paint for the inside today. I have it all coated with a bucket of KILZ on the inside right now.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm no carpenter but I don't think it is going to fall down.

You'll have to excuse the phone pix and dirty camera lense.

I agonized over color all winter. Having picked up the Mopar sign some time ago and the grease barrel (not a fan of Pennzoil I just like the can) just last week I decided to go with the red and yellow.

It is kind of an orange red (it looks very orange in some of the picks). I call it Detonator Yellow and Hemi Orange even though it is not really.

The trim is reclaimed wood from the old structure, I will be using almost all that was not rotten. It is blackened by the roofing material that was on it. I think it looks pretty cool, especially since it was free.

The galvanized metal is what I am going to face my cabinets with, the bodies will be the red/orange.

Progress is going to slow on this project as I have a kitchen and bath to remodel before I go much further.

The stone will be going up on the outside in the next couple of weeks though and I will get pics up as work progresses.

Top notch work.

Did you work from a set of plans? That is very similar to what I have in mind. I'd like to know the dimensions and other specs.

26x40. pre-cut studs on two course of block. 10 wide x 8 tall doors. 8/12 pitch attic trusses.

You can't tell from the pics or even standing outside but the building is not symetrical. The overhang on the West side (over the walk in doors) is twice what the East side is and the peak and upper window is six inches West of the center of the overhead doors. I did this to have a two foot overhang on the bad weather side and I will probly put stone on that wall when I come up with some more cash and this will even it out a bit.

You can't get far enough away from the building at an angel where this is noticeable though.

I drew the plans myself on graph paper. Mechanical drawings aren't required in my area for detached garages.

Again, sorry about the cell pics. No lights in the building yet.

$40. worth of 1" black pipe fittings and some scavenged pipe and wood.

The trim is really nice and goes well with the wall color.

Not sure if I mentioned it before but the trim is wood reclaimed from the old structure. The blackened color is from the tar paper that was on it. After sitting outside over the winter it is not longer sticky and has grayed a little.

that looks great. is there going to be a second story or just an attic?

Just storage. You can only stand up straight in the middle 4' and it is a 12' wide floor and 40' long. Lots of storage. I could fit a few thousand Canada goose decoys up there. :)

looks real nice, Subsrcibing as I have some similar ideas, any pics of the second floor storage space or how you did your stairs. I'm still debating on going for a heigh varaince on mins since I already have to get a depth variance, so the pics would be helpful, thanks...

No steps yet, still using a ladder. I'll snap some pics the next time I go up there.

What is the pitch of your rafters? I'm getting ready to build a 28'x40' and I'm trying to get an idea of how much pitch I need for storage in the attic.

8:12. At 26' wide it was just tall enough for a full size door.

Holy carp I need to take some new pics. Here are a few from a while ago.

The steps in progress.
DSC02850.jpg

The front prior to painting the trim.
DSC02865.jpg

The soon to be modified kitchen cabinets. They will look much more man cave-ish when I'm done. I promise. Though I still don't know what I'm going to do for counter tops???
DSC02910.jpg

The sign I found in the attic of the old building. If anyone has a hard on for it they can have it. Pick up only.

Good work man, looks like you have a great space there. I don't know about all the Mopar stuff, but I guess if you really like under performing cars that break all the time that's your right :headscrat

Just messin with you bro, I'm a car lover, I don't care what it says on the emblem.:lol_hitti
