What tool box?

Looking at picking up a new used tool box

box #1: cornwell 12 drawer 42w and 24d overall 22.7d drawers. It was made by kennedy in 2001 and parts are no longer availible

Box #2: snap on 7 drawer 40" wide 20" deep

The snap on would be newer. It's smaller though. Which would you choose assuming the price is the same?

Are you sure parts are NLA for the cornwell/kennedy box? I like the layout of the cornwell box better. Kinda hard to dispute snap on's warranty capability and or parts support.

Haven't got anything... was planning on the cornwell but am having second thoughts

Cornwell is 600 I could probably get a snap on for that if I keep an eye out there's one for 700 firm and another for like 800

The Cornwell is a pretty nice box. You probably won't ever need parts.

Did you call Kennedy to verify that? Sure, some of the trim pieces may be NLA, but the workings might still be available.

Remember, just because the Brooklyn Bridge is for "sale", doesn't mean it is

I think it depends on what tools you are putting in it. Basic mechanic tools, probably the Cornwell.

But I like big wide drawers to firt ALL of one subject in them. I hate using 2 drawers for the like-items.

If that snappy is the KRA4107, it isn't as beefy as their big boy stuff. Not to say its bad, but it does feel lightweight. No exp. with those Cornwells. I had the KRA4107 ....

I have a like new snapon box exactly like that but has a stainless steel worktop I'm trying to sell.

I have that snapon bottem the only problem I have is it is 40 inches and won't accept anyone else top box as they measure about 41 inches

I literally have each one of those exact same boxes. I bought the cornwell for $750, the snap on along with top and middle for $500 for all three pieces for a pricing reference. The cornwell is substantially larger and in my opinion MUCH more heavily built. Keep in mind the snap on is their budget line, but the cornwell is just the smaller version of their larger boxes of the same vintage. The cornwell has a deeper top drawer, which is important for deeper sockets. The biggest advantage the snap on has is that you can add drawer slides and double up every drawer (i have done this to mine and highly recommend you do that). The only drawers with double slides (i believe) are the top wide drawer and the bottom skinny drawer on the cornwell, and there are no slots in the drawers to add additional slides to the other drawers. You can also rearrange drawer configuration on the snap on. Cant recall if you can do that on the cornwell.

Btw, I'd go with the cornwell. I like the drawer configuration much better.

Get the Cornwell. More drawers make it easy to keep small or less-frequently used items from cluttering a big drawer. Stash reference guides and dental picks in a small drawer and not on top of your wrenches.

The Cornwell box is a model CTB-4024BR. I've owned the 60 inch wide version of that box since 2002. They are well built. Unfortunately, Cornwell switches tool box suppliers often. They've used remline, kennedy, and waterloo over the years. Cornwell doesn't make their own boxes. Current models are made by waterloo in their Mexico facility.
Repair parts for these Cornwell boxes dried up years ago. Kennedy has a maintenance cart that is close but no cigar when it comes to slides.
The question really is how much can you get the cornwell for and do you ever plan on expanding?
