Now we all know that they ARE easy to find. All we need to do is show up at your house .............. with a flashlight ............ and bolt cutters.

You tend to command better money for vices over there than we do. An 8" leg vice would be a **** addition, but they'd probably be carting us away if we paid £750 for a vice. 
(That's overlooking larger business's, obviously. They'll spend whatever is necessary, (within reason), for a needed item, as a rule). I'm going to have to ask now, out of simple curiosity. What type of general price do the 4" and 6" ones tend to go for, over there?
We'd probably have a field day if we started shipping and selling old kit over there.

It depends on where you are. In New England the 4" ones start at $75 (£49) in ratty condition and go up to $200 (£130) for a prime example. Most you find are in the lower half of the scale and missing the spring or mounting bracket. 6" post vises can start at $150 (£98) and go to 3 or 4 hundred (£196-£260). The bigger the vise, the harder to find.

Things are somewhat different over there then. Makes me appreciate all the more how much mine cost.
It's somewhat common to see leg vices listed for around the £25 to £70 range, (4" to 6"), but a lot of them tend to go unsold, judging from the occasions I've kept an eye on them.
Edit: Not sure if this Ebay link will work as expected over there, but this gives an indication of what the market for them is like over here.

Ha ! what I got from that "leg vice" link was 2 post vises and bunch of listings for "little girl" skinny jeans and *******. US only listings.

I had an inkling their geo system might **** it up.
The gist of it was that there's at least a couple of 6" ones on there for the moment at around £60 or so BIN, in decent complete nick, but possibly just needing a clean up. They'll probably sit there for a while though. If I saw an 8" one, (this may just be the Yorkshireman in me talking, btw ), I'd not expect it to be more than £100 or so, realistically.

Nope. Looks like this. both jaws swivel and has both vise and pipe jaws interchangeable . Keep digging

No need to come at night but if you do the two mastiff dogs would be the first problem... They would lick you to death. They are big enough to change a tire on a moving car but just want some attention
You vise addicts all live too far away anyway because I have yet to have any real visitors.

CRS: Thanks, I'm with you, from the point I acquired that Tiger. I'm critical about the nut/way interface, and screw/nut interface (I had one that was stretched? ? ) lastly, the lambs tongue (dj support) can have cracks on certain vises. Glad you passed on it...

My Wilton 500N vise that I scored from a closed machine shop left behind when a childhood friend of my father's passed. Got it for $30 but before I could go back the contents of the building were turned over to an auction company.
Have a few more but nothing as notable and nothing else mounted at this time. They are one tool that I have a hard time walking away from when I see them.

Steelkilt: Dang that Simplex is purty! Great lettering again. Did it for a friend did you? Well, old pal, I've got 2 or 3 that need a good finish. Maybe 3 or 4. No more than 5 or 6.
p.s. It was a cracked dynamic jaw support that was the final problem on that Woden.

Nice job cleaning it up too.
I Was just using my 4 1/4" machinists Simplex ( the first ones from Woonsocket).
Smooth and not to sloppy either. A .005 feeler gage barely fits between the slide and the body.
Good vises.

Keep thinking of more vises I'd like... I think one of those coachmakers /sheet metal vises could be real handy for some of the stuff I do.
Never even seen one in person though. Don't seem at all common up here!

Vintage: I'm tying to decide if I want a sheet metal vise. This American Scale #206 has been on CL near here for nearly a month. It's only $60 but I would have to do a full stripping. Beware the Blue Bomber and what the blue might be hiding.

That style isn't common over here either. Only company I can think of that made one was Record, and they're like hens teeth to find.
I wouldn't mind one myself. Seems for things like hand cutting templates out of thin ply etc., one of those would be handy save having to move the piece around as much to stop it vibrating.
