Any reason you chose diamond pattern over the free flow?

Honestly even though I liked the free-flow in pictures I decided I liked the diamond better in person.

Last night I got everything put down except where the cabinets are and around the water heater and the spots on each side of the garage doors that need trimmed pieces to finish.

I finally finished up the RaceDeck floor. Took me a lot longer than I thought (probably 15 hours total doing it by myself). I had to trim a lot of pieces. Glad I ordered extra! Also...I would not recommend using a circular saw...especially a cordless. My cuts were hard to get straight.

I like it better than my botched polyaspartic floor as far as the color. I will have to decide how it holds up but so far it has not scratched when moving the cabinets...hard to say the same for the HP Spartacote polyaspartic garbage.

I think at this point what I have is what I have. Too much has been spent to make any more attempts. If I had known how much $$$ I was going to pour into the floor I would have just paid for concrete polishing to begin with (which I thought was going to be way out of my budget).

Next up...I'll probably repaint the walls. They really look like an olive drab kind of color now and I really wanted a darker grey with no undertones. So I may have to repaint to be happy with the color combo. Maybe I am just too picky...

Lots of scraps...

Looks awesome! The beauty of this type of floor is if you damage an area its only a few bucks to get a new tile!

Thanks and I do have a nice stack of leftover tiles to use as replacements. I think I have about 25 or so left over.

I looked around quite thoroughly for pictures of solid black RaceDeck Diamond floors and I think I only came across one (and that was an incomplete floor) so I had to roll the dice on this one.

I just went back through your thread and read the 2x M3 delivery... thats badass!

We flew to Germany 2 years ago - hit the Ring, Oktoberfest/Munich, Salzburg and ended up in Prague.

Is the Welt tour worth it?

Trying to plan another trip over there - and trying to go to Italy - we only spent a night in Munich and would like to spend more time there.

As far as flooring selection - your RaceDeck looks good.

I am having a hard time on what brand/options to go with - I have SwissTrax and the RaceDeck samples so far. I am waiting for there flow through sample to come in.

Thanks.

We did the factory tour starting at the Welt (which was worth it) and in 2002 I did the museum tour but it has since been renovated at least twice (I think) and I couldn't go this time around because it was closed on Monday. The Welt itself you can walk around on your own. I wasn't aware of a specific tour of the Welt.

What do you recommend?

Circular saw but not handheld?

Based on my experience I would try to use/borrow a miter saw if you don't have one. I really should've just bought one because I'll eventually need it for other projects.

I'll keep that in mind - we did the factory tour of the Porsche plant in Stuttgart - and that was an awesome tour that was free! Just had to know who to contact about it. Like the BMW musuem - the Merc and Porsche museums where both closed on Mondays - weird!

I might end up with the the diamond pattern tile - my better half didn't care for the free flow design of the SwissTrax sample that we got in.

OK, I've got some minor updates / goings on.

First, got my vanity tag in at some point:

I mounted the Columbian vice that was passed down to me. Circa 1930-1950 rough guess. I used my floor jack handle to position it so that pipes and whatnot would clear the worktop. I was going to restore it first, but decided I just needed it in place to work on stuff. That project will have to wait a bit.

Had to buy a pro mop bucket kit as sweeping and swiffer mopping (and even hose rinsing) was not cutting it. This floor shows so much dirt and concrete dust from the driveway.

Working on this RaceDeck has been a pain in my *** so far. Floor jacks and jack stands need plywood under them so they don't punch through the flooring. And with the plywood the floor jack doesn't slide at all so the jack appears to be torquing and twisting under the weight of the car as I jack it up (I'm assuming under normal circumstances the jack would slide a tiny bit as the car is lifting and relieve some torsion). Also, it warps a bit in the sun even with a good half inch of wall clearance so I may need to trim a few pieces to see if that will help. Frankly, not that pleased so far. It is probably better for a non-working garage. Strike two on floors I guess. Maybe one day I can just pay some pros to come in and polish my concrete and hope that makes me happy.

I decided to put my NSX up for sale so I conducted a lengthy paint correction session (it really didn't need much as it was done a few years ago and is rarely driven). Buyer is supposed to pick it up tomorrow. Right now I'm not sure what the next step will be. I would like 2 NSXs with higher mileage to make one a track car and one a daily but I'll need to do the 4 post lift and high lift door conversion on that single bay. I'm guessing probably $3500 or so for all of that...probably going to wait unless I want to take that out of the NSX sale money (which will gimp me on replacement(s)).

And lastly...part of the reason I haven't invested much into the garage recently is that I knocked up the MRS. We've got a baby boy coming in September. Below is how we announced it. You can bet your *** I will be grooming Jr to be a petrol-head from the beginning :) -- What this all means is that I may not be executing on the rest of this garage build very quickly and likely means I will not be building the detached second phase garage for quite some time. Just depends.

Congrats on the soon to be addition to the family. I personally love the way you announced it. Its funny before you mentioned that in your post i spotted that car in the NSX prep shots and had a moment questioning it.

Sad to see the NSX go but with the other garage inhabitants i wouldn't look that much sleep hahaha. And you will need all the sleep you can get shortly.

Thanks and yes...maintaining 3 cars already is draining. I really don't think I'm going to be interested in doing that come September.

The reality is that I'm selling the NSX to move on to something else...at some point. 4 years is a long time for me to own a car and I never drive it. Just worth too much and the mileage is just in a funky spot at 77K. If it was already over 100k, I would not feel guilty putting miles on it.

As for what is next...I sort of have a multi-tier plan:

1. Wait for Cayman GT4 allocation up to 1 year
2. If I can't get one, see if crazy deals are getting made on the new Viper ACR.
3. If crazy deals aren't bringing it down to where I can stretch for it, I'll be looking at a C7 Z06 IF they are working invoice or less deals on them like they eventually did for the C6 Z06s.
4. At this point enough time will have gone by that maybe the NSX market has cooled off some (with the economy) and I would be looking for 2 high mileage NSXs to stack on that 4 post. One as a guilt-free daily(ish) and the other as a track car.
5. If the pricing is too high for the twin NSXs, I will probably look at a used 997 GT3 if pricing isn't out of reach (currently it is too much of a stretch) or a 997 turbo.
6. Any of this is subject to change if something strikes my fancy along the way :pimpflash

For now though, step 1 seems like the best solution with the kid coming and with my job getting eliminated. Gives me some time to get that all sorted while I wait who knows how long for a GT4 allocation.

Here we are, finally another update. Frankly, not too much to add about the garage itself but I did have a new occupant move in...

As for the garage:

RaceDeck floor - Been living with it (active use, cars in and out, maybe 1-2 small vehicle projects or maintenance items per month) and I can say that black was not a good choice. Looked OK at first but it is a pain to keep clean and with my industrial mop/bucket setup and Dawn degreasing dish soap I have not had much success getting it anywhere near the original condition. White driveway tread paths seem to resist my cleaning. Also, despite doing a little bit more than the recommended gaps around the perimeter, I am getting buckling in the sun after a short period of exposure. I will have to cut the gaps some more. Perhaps the floor has spread out a bit under the weight of the cars. That seems to have also caused the cutout I have around the water heater protection pole to have shifted towards the back of the garage and buckles up around the base of it now.

Detailing - I've really started ramping up my detailing game lately. Made a pretty big supply purchase recently and sorted it into my cabinets in this order:
wash/clean > detailing > Interior/misc

In my tall cabinet, I added a simple microfiber organization system. I have a new container and then I have a clean/dirty container for each of these categories: exterior detailing > jambs and windows > interior. That way I can wash and reuse them by category separately but never cross over jambs/windows/interior to the exterior paint finish.

That's about it for now. Overall, I'm not that happy with the garage. I had a completely different vision in mind and for whatever reasons I've ended up with somewhat of a compromise as far as appearance. As for utility, the cabinets do a solid job but the flooring requires extra steps when I'm lifting cars up and frankly I feel less safe using jack and jackstands on plywood than directly on a concrete surface. I've got a baby boy coming in less than 3 weeks so chances are there won't be many significant changes for the next year. First world problems, I know.

Future plans:
4 post lift in single bay
High lift garage door conversion for single bay
Additional lighting or have canned lights installed
Add slate backsplash over worktop
Under cabinet lighting
Possibly paint cabinet doors (black perhaps)
Repaint walls (lighter color more neutral grey perhaps)
Figure out someplace else for the yard equipment
Swap out casters on tool box so that it can be rolled straight out for breaker panel access
Remove sore-thumb yellow warning sticker from water heater so it blends to wall better

Baseline corner weighed the GT4 today. 3117 lbs w/ a full tank. Porsche claims 2955. This would be the first time I've weighed a car more than a few pounds higher than the claimed curb weight.

Very sweet new garage addition. Was it hard to get rid of the NSX?

Thanks! Emotionally, no...although I stay in touch with the new owner so I'm starting to get a little emotional now. I had it sold pretty quickly though. The prices were really flying up at the time. Kind of undersold it when I think about it but I was happy with what I got for it.

Dat Porsche!

For real :)

My first, too!

Garage looks great. Love the colors you've gone with.

Thanks!

I have a minor update...not really to the garage itself, though. I've added a high mileage Imola/Imola E46 M3 to be my daily driver (I'm slowly undoing the mods from the previous owner...new wheels inbound, parts refresh etc...). My Yas F80 M3 is sold to a new owner just waiting for him to get it trucked home. I started working for my dream employer in Atlanta so it made little sense to put a load of commuting miles on the F80. Also made no sense to keep it as a weekend car since I have the GT4. And lastly, I have an infant son now so it also makes no sense to have that extra payment when we are going to begin paying for day care soon.

I wanted my wife to keep the Yas F80 and let me sell her white F80, but that idea didn't go over well...

So for the next few days this is my personal fleet...

And some bonus shots of the garage in use recently...

New to this forum and was immediately captivated by this thread. First off, I think I was separated at birth from the OP. It seems as if everything you have posted in this thread has been something I have done, thought about, or explored.

To the OP: are you the same Accel Junky that used to own this beautiful white Supra?

Design plan: I am right on board with your there. Having one garage to be a display/man cave space and another to house daily drivers, tools, supplies is exactly what I had initially envisioned for our home too. Unfortunately the area in SoCal that I live is dominated by small lots and stingy HOA's. Without a 1 million plus budget, one if pretty limited in this area. I hope down the road this idea comes to fruition for you.

Flooring: You pretty much confirmed my concern with Racedeck tiles. When speaking to their product specialists they assured me that the tiles could withstand the pressure of a jackstand or floorjack without warping. I hope you eventually get what you want with the floor.

In regards to the 4 post lift - can I ask how tall your ceilings are? They appear to be >10'6"? Also, if you don't mind me asking what is the width and depth of your 3 car? It appears to be wider than a standard 3 car. Not having to slither out of your driver's side door seems like such a small issue yet very important one.

Best of luck with your future plans, so far its been fun and informative to follow.

Yep, I'm the creator of that e-famous MKIV hardtop! Glad I could be of assistance with my flooring mistakes. Wish I had just done the polished concrete like I originally planned...since I've spent that much on these two attempts.

I think my ceiling is 10-10.5" something like that. It would be tight on the 4 post depending on the cars but I want to give it a shot still.

Dimensions are 20.8ft deep, 29ft wide at the doors, 32ft wide at the back including the alcove and the alcove is 12ftx3ft. I would definitely go a few feet deeper if I was building this configuration. I would go a couple feet taller and 2-4 feet deeper at least. Maybe make the alcove another 1-2ft deeper.

Very interesting switch in the garage. Full of logic and also a fun project. Congrats!

Thanks! The E46 is so much fun. Believe it or not it is way better than the GT4. The GT4 gearing is just too damn tall for the street and it lacks the mid range punch that the E46 surprisingly has.

My Yas F80 M3 is sold but not shipped to the buyer yet. Should be gone this week or weekend.

Not much new to report as far as the garage itself. As for the cars, the Yas F80 M3 is long gone. The E46 M3 is track-prepped and completed the first track day within 3 seconds of the F80 at Atlanta Motorsports park despite being down 100whp.

The GT4 is gone as well. I ordered another one this time with a couple of changes but it is fundamentally the same.

My wife's F80 will go up for sale as soon as we find her a needle-in-the-haystack Cayenne manual trans.

The RaceDeck floor is looking pretty tired already. I'm debating on trying to take it out and pressure wash it or something. Black was not the best color choice for this.

Are you over in East Cobb around Lower Roswell/Johnson Ferry/Papermill? I'm pretty sure I've seen those cars around. Wonderful setup btw.

I'm West Cobb, used to be over that way several years back. I'm over there every now and then I guess.

It has to be the cabinets and cars. I guess the only way to avoid it is to have nothing on the flooring at all. Wish I had gone with my original plan of the stain/polished concrete. Next house...

I too saw a post about your twin M3s on another BMW forum. Its nice to see others that love cars, specifically German engineered cars, also like a big and organized garage. Congrats on your first son.

My stable includes a BMW 435i, 550i, Porsche Boxster, and an Acura RDX.

I am building a new three-car garage right now, attaching it to the existing two-car garage to have room for five cars. I am trying to figure out what cabinets to purchase.

I am likely purchasing NewAge cabinets. What I am wondering is if you purchased the NewAge Pro or Bold cabinets. They both look similar, but the Pro cabinets are 18 gauge and the Bold cabinets are 24 gauge. Given the price, I am thinking you purchased the Bold cabinets, but given the high quality you do everything else, I am not sure.

Most people on this forum say you must get the Pro cabinets and the Bold cabinets are flimsy. Would you mind saying which model you purchased and if you are satisfied with them?

Mine are the Bold series. Honestly, once they are put together and in place I have not noticed any issues with flimsiness. They are decent starter cabinets for the money. No complaints really. Better than the cheap particle board stuff out there.

I am a fan of the GT4. I recently sat in one and found out that they got a little larger inside and I fit in them now.
I also heard that you can't get on a waiting list to buy one without previously owning a Porsche. Is that true?

What changes did you order on this new car?
Excited to see it when you take delivery.

Definitely not true, the first one I ordered it was my first Porsche. No relationship at all. Out of state dealer. Got lucky on that one as it was when there were very few allocations and someone dropped theirs.

2nd one I was on a wait list (again having not owned one at the time) at a more local dealer. I had 2 dealers before that tell me they didn't have a list or weren't bothering to put anyone else on. My name eventually came up and I decided to sell the one I had and order another with the carbon bucket seats and the ceramic composite brakes (so those are the only changes, the color and all other options are the same). The seats were on stop-order for my first car and I really wanted them, so I'm glad I got a "re-do" per se.

At this point production is wrapping up but there may still be a few allocations left. Trouble is finding dealers that don't want over MSRP. There are many that are barely used floating around for sale. If you don't mind someone else's build, you could definitely score one.

My new one is sitting at the port in Jacksonville. Should be taking delivery here on July 15. I can hardly wait!

Nice garage man, the local Porsche dealer here has/had a blue GT4 for sale as well, IIRC it was around 95k. The salesman was quite enjoyable to chat with, he mentioned it would rattle your teeth out on a daily commute, but was a helluva a track car.

More changes to what is in the garage. Sold wife's F80, she now has a manual 2013 Cayenne. I finally took delivery of my second GT4 (this time carbon buckets and ceramic brakes, otherwise same).
