First, hello. Found this site while researching cordless impact drivers. The new brushless motor Ridgid (which sounds like it will be available this month) is rated at 2250 inch pounds of torque in its highest torque setting. That is a staggering 40% more than the class leading Milwaukee Fuel 18V, one of the other drivers at the top of my list. Should I be swayed to "wait and see"? What is the general consensus on the Ridgid line of tools?

Ridgid makes a great tool for the price. They are a bit clunky, and not a well executed as some of the others. But with the Lifetime Warranty it is a good buy.

40% is a crazy claim, it will be interesting to see if they back it up. I would wait for it, then pull the trigger.

I did a lot of google-foo about them last year when I was in the market in the same position as you. Depot tool guy gave me a heads up on a sale and had a good pitch on the warranty.

Internet yielded a fair amount of complaints from users tho. Battery issues, tool failures, botched warranty claims, far too long repair turnaround times....I decided it wasn't worth the gamble and just bought the m18 kit....never looked back. Used professionally.

It's probably worth waiting to see.

I'm not sure why mfgs haven't gone all-out in the power wars on impact drivers, I've gotten hung up on some really dry 4x4 w/ the M18 Fuel impact driver even with normal deck screws. I needed to bring out my Metabo impact wrench w/ an adapter to flush everything up (which would be 3540 in-lbs :shocking: ).

Thanks for the replies. I will check it out if I get a chance. If I find an 18V Fuel on Black Friday at a great price prior to seeing the Ridgid, it might be game over.

The warranty is what has me switching from Dewalt 18v. I bought my first one about a year ago. No issues yet. I'm really hoping there will be a Black Friday deal on the new stuff.

Was going to post the exact same thing.

My old tools are Makita. I just had my second drill fail with bad gears. Time for new batteries plus probably need two new batteries for the Makita, so the Ridgid with its warranty seems like a good decision. So far I love them!

I think it really depends on what you are planning to do. Milwuakees M18 Fuel are a better product overall. Mostly fit/finish, batteries, and overall execution.

So for somebody using them in high demand, performance situations its worth the extra money.

But if purchasing for either occasional home use, or say framing decks all day is when the Ridgids really shine.

If using for framing decks all day, serious abuse stuff then the warranty is awesome.

If using occasionally for home use, maybe a bit neglected, batteries dont see constant use, then the warranty is great when you go to use the drill after 9 months of sitting in a hot/cold garage and they are dead.

Just my opinion, but both have their strengths.

Home depot is running a promotion right now for either $100 or $150 off a combo kit and qualifying accessory. Check the Hot deals sub-forum.

I currently have the 18v LXT Makitas and when the time comes, I'll replace them with the Milwaukee 18V Fuel system and I'm the occasional home user. I just think the Milwaukees are more reliable than the Rigid.

I was say the RIDGID is more than for just occasional home use....get a Craftsman if you want something for that.

The RIDGID combo I bought, feels leaps and bounds better than say a $109 Craftsman drill/impact combo, it feels way more rugged, better built, the drills are evenly balanced between the battery and drill head, plus the drills have the most torque in their class for compact drills.

Add the combo at $280 plus a $30 Ryobi driver, that makes it $310, it instantly removes the $100 making it $210 and you return the ryobi $2something driver, bringing the total to $18something, and I'm sorry these are pretax prices.

I'm actually looking for the new 3 piece kit that includes the new brushless hammer drill, impact, and 7 1/4 circular saw. Unfortunately not all stores have them yet. Price is $399 and hopefully will be included in the promo for $150 off with extra tool purchase. Model number is R9210 and sku is 1001-565-477 in case anyone else is looking for all 3 pieces.

I've never had a problem getting warranty replacements for Ridgid.

I've got their older 12v 90-degree impact driver drill combo kit, an 18v circular saw, and a flashlight. I had not touched the 18v batteries in a couple years, so they were goners. I forgot to register the saw & batteries, but once I produced my receipt it was only a week before I had 2 new ones.

Another time I needed to replace two of the 12v batteries, and I wanted the impact driver checked out. I dropped it off and two weeks later I got a call that they were ready to be picked up. They ended up replacing both 12v batteries, and instead of just fixing the impact, which I wasn't even sure was messed up, they gave me a refurbished kit which had an impact driver, 2 batteries, and a charger in a hard plastic case, all of which looked new, besides the "Refurbished" stamp that was melted in everything.

These were spread out about 3-5 years apart and at different locations. I've been happy with their warranty and while I've since moved on to Milwaukee, due to having more options available, I will be going back to Ridgid for their compact 12v drill as that's what I use most and I've had pretty bad luck with Milwaukee on those. Mine had way too much wobble, so I had it fixed under warranty, and after little use, in soft metal or wood, the replacement does the same thing. Plus, I had to replace the chuck since it wouldn't stay tight.
