What is the concern with winter storing of a car on a 2 post lift with the suspension "hanging"? Is this suppose to cause damage or be a detriment and if so in what way? Thanks in advance.

Good question. It seems that it is "common knowledge" that storing a car with the suspension unloaded is bad for it but I have never understood why either.
I wonder if it might be best to remove the wheels at least to lessen the hanging weight.

My Factory Five came with straps to limit the amount of suspension travel in the event the rear end came off the ground, They were basically pickup truck tailgate straps.

If it's a concern, you could always temporarily install similar straps so the suspension doesn't hang, Just remember to remove them before driving ;)

I believe they just bolted to the shock bolts.

It seems odd. The car was built on an assembly line with the wheels (hubs at least) hanging down for a large portion of the assembly part, which could have been left that way over a weekend or holiday period. Also, any static loads (like the suspension decompressing) are really small as compared to dynamic loads that the car experiences hitting a pavement strip or a pothole, recessed manhole cover, etc at speeds. The spring force on the supports actually go down as the spring displacement goes up/longer (F = -kx for you engineers out there).

I guess I'll be finding out. I have my Mustang stored for the winter up on my two post so I could park the wife's car under it as that's the only way we can get all the vehicles inside for the winter.

Check back with me in the spring.
