It seems odd. The car was built on an assembly line with the wheels (hubs at least) hanging down for a large portion of the assembly part, which could have been left that way over a weekend or holiday period. Also, any static loads (like the suspension decompressing) are really small as compared to dynamic loads that the car experiences hitting a pavement strip or a pothole, recessed manhole cover, etc at speeds. The spring force on the supports actually go down as the spring displacement goes up/longer (F = -kx for you engineers out there).
