My VINTAGE CRAFTSMAN wood shop

I have an Old Barn across from the party garage that became available to me
and I need more work space. My bodyshop garage, where I restore my treasures has run out of wall space and I need to start working with wood. I want to make name plaques and display cabinets. I have been buying old craftsman power tools and have decided to create a vintage craftsman wood shop in the old barn.

Remember when I drove the forklift out of the barn garage with the door down just a few inches? Well here is another shot of the barn. The man door opens up into an 20' x 18' room perfect for my wood shop

I'm excited to get this project under way.

Here is a shot of what I started with this week
Looking in from the front door looking at the south east corner

looking at the south west corner of the room

And looking at the north wall I have a full bath to the left and a laundry room behind the double doors and an open closet with an open half and shelves on the other half

The room was an ugly dark brown color that had to go so Jose and I put a fresh coat of primer on the walls.

Now I'm wanting a light, bright color in the room and I would like an orange stripe 1/3 the way up the wall, I'm leaning toward a peachy beige color so off to the big box in the morning to pick a color or two.

I am starting this shop with a 1964 craftsman "100" table saw and a
1952 12" "100" series bandsaw and a grizzly dust extractor.

I have a Craftsman 100 that was my grandfathers and a bandsaw identical to that one, but in gold paint that I bought from a friend. I guess that v-belt on my bandsaw never was suppose to have a guard on it after all.

A woodshop is a top idea indeed. I have thought you should do this for quite a while, especially when we got into the Craftsman restorations a while back. Now this needs to be a very special thread and we will all be waiting to see the outcome and production of your new shop!! I am very excited about it! (BTW: Are you going to also start smoking a pipe? ) LOL

It's not the space so much as it is the dust in my paint shop. The party garage has plenty of empty space still for signs and stuff lol.

Thanks guys for letting me know just how much pressure you can put on me to not disappoint.

I have spent the evening reading threads about wood shops and I'm forming a few thoughts on layout and design. It's all new to me.

I loaned a buddy my flat trailer so he could move his garage shop to a small commercial building . He had the trailer for 3 days and when he brought it back to me it had this old Delta scroll saw tied on it. he said That I will be needing one for the wood shop

Too bad that I won't have any time to play in the wood shop this week

I haven't had any time for my woodshop project this week, Been getting ready for a few Christmas parties in the party garage and had to finish up a little stop light project for the garage too.

I thought that the floor was a bit fancy for a woodshop but hadn't thought about it being slick with the saw dust. It does beat unfinished cement.
How about thick rubber mats in front of each machine?

That is pretty much what I have in mind but too much and too far away.
I would pay $800. and go after it but $2,500. is way to steep +
I have already started collecting some machinery and he won't split it up.

That would work at those locations, another option is just throwing down some cheap plywood. Wouldn't even need to be 1/2, less would certainly work so long as it lays flat.
With the plywood option is also allows you to paint those spiffy pro looking 2in wide lines all over the floor in hi-viz paint to show walkways, machine spaces & all the other assorted malarky.

What?? No pictures yet of you wearing a sweater and smoking that pipe? LOL!!! That commercial duty scroll saw is a real treasure. You sure do have a knack for running on to things. I don't know whether I would put it to use in the shop, or totally restore it for lts original glory to have on display! You may not know it yet (or knowing you --you probably do already) you are going to need a Swedish CabinetMaker's Bench. It must be made of hard maple, with frontal and tail vises. It will need "bench dogs" so you can clamp your pieces in for carving and sanding (by hand). Oh Oh no time for hand work!! Just kidding Don I love your wood shop already!! (Just remember--Ward Cleaver wore a tie and smoked a pipe in his shop, or at least he did on TV).

Can't wait to see what you do with the new space. I'm guessing that those great old Craftsman tools will be getting a refresh and will look and function as good as new before it is all said and done. Are you on the lookout for a vintage jointer and planer as well? It would certainly round out the assortment. Do you have a layout in mind?

On the tile floor... The rubber mats get my vote. They are a great solution to the dust traction problem and give some much needed cushion for the feet. I'm planing on a few for in front of mine. Also, make sure to source an air cleaner, or two. It will do a great job keeping the small fine dust to a minimal.

Oh man, this is gonna be good! I just finished a C'man Bandsaw like that , 103.24280 but am missing the 4 cover retaining knobs. I have plenty of spare parts for C'man drill presses and tablesaws if you need. Personally, I think an old time wood floor would be perfect for the barn. What are you going to use for dust collection?
