Exhaust hanger removal tool from snap on

Manual calls for snap on ya3202.

Had to search to see what that looks like, does anyone know some similar pliers or ways to accomplish the same thing ?

Usually I would spray penetrating oil on the hanger and in the hanger. Then use a pry bar to work the hanger out of the rubber.

I'd bet that's easier, but I use something similar to this and it's easy enough. If they're stuck pretty good I spray a little water and twist 'em loose. I'm not 100% sure what different lubes would do to the rubber but I don't have to mess with those often.

Spray oil and use ya hand , ive never used a tool of any kind on an exhaust rubber.

Goggle brought up lots of choices.

As to whether to buy the tool, I would want to know how often you would use it. use it couple of times a month, I would buy it, once a year, maybe not.

Sure you can get them off using other tools and techniques but the right tool works really well. I've used both brands and I don't have a preference

The thing is I am daunted whenever i see remove exhaust hanger
I don't have hulk strength finger like some of you guys and my palm get bruised etc
On old cars it may be easier but on a new car that is difficult especially one that's been a few years the rubber just started to harden a little more

I've got a set of the Lisle pliers, work great.

Some rubbers are ******* tight even after spraying with oils etc.

I have the lisle plier tool and i would say its worth the $20 price, takes all of the frustration out of fiddling with the rubber hangers. I dont use it too often but im glad i have it

Probably nothing good.

I saw the Lisle tool, and needed something like that one night after the stores were closed. So I welded together something similar using rebar and a pair of broken groove joint pliers in the junk drawer.

That style tool works like a charm, needing no lubrication to take everything apart. Once apart, I re-lube with the same silicone grease I use on brake caliper pins (which also slide around in rubber, so it's got to be safe on the rubber), and it always goes back together like butter without needing a tool.

Pb blaster and a pry bar work great. For stubborn hangars with enough room to access those pliers do come in handy though.

I use the long prybar and 90% I ended up ripping off the rubber. I will try that lisle tool

Sure, i have no complaints about it; works exactly as it is supposed to, saves time, makes life easier, was cheap enough to forget about what i spent on it and if i was in a situation where i didnt have one and tried someone else's, i would be convinced to buy one.

I got a pair from Mac identical to the lisle pliers. Paid about $30 for them and like others have said I don't know how I went with out them for years.

I used dialectric grease, followed by elbow grease, when I was working on my truck's exhaust earlier in the year... the 15 year old exhaust hangers haven't rotted away since then, so far so good.

This^^^^^. If I did it more often if probably buy the tool but on the few occasions I've had to, the old dish soap trick didn't let me down.

Also, let's not forget the most powerful tool at all: a wallet. Most of the time, these stupid exhaust hangers are fairly cheap to replace, and new ones usually work a lot better. The only catch is that they can be a pain to find sometimes, so make sure you have the correct new ones in hand before you go hacking the old ones off.

If I need it on occasion wouldnt blink at the price of these. Sis a couple the other day with spray and Channelocks, put back on by hand but there is a time and place the 30$ would come back.

Yup, short pry bar, lube it up and pop it out. I hated exhaust work, in Michigan in the winter time when everybody's frickin' muffler decides to fall off!

When I changed the mufflers on my first mustang I did it but laying on your back makes it a PITA. I saw this tool in the catalog and said, "I have to have it". made putting new mufflers on the second mustang a lot easier.
