Thought I'd post some "current" shots of my garage as it sits; I am currently working with an architect and builder to plan out a 30x40 to replace it next spring. This is a 16x22' that simply isn't big enough anymore for my needs. Full size pickups/SUVs barely fit, and don't leave me much working room if I do manage to squeeze one in. Even smaller cars can be a pain at times.
The color scheme was lifted from commercial "facility image guides" for Chevrolet dealerships and GM Goodwrench service centers.
I have been detailing -- and specializing in paint correction -- for over a decade; the inventory of related supplies has expanded a lot over the years!
As the garage is currently quite small, I use a simple Dimplex 220v heater to keep things workable over the winter; in summer months I've used a window AC. Climate control is pretty important especially when curing protective coatings.
My current -- and a bit undersized -- tool storage. The bottom boxes are early 80s vintage Craftsman, with the mid and top units added just a few years ago.
The hose reel here is fed by a simple 12v liquid pump mounted on the wall behind my stereo. I have a 5-gallon carboy filled with rinseless/waterless wash solution ready to go on the shelf to make mid-detail cleaning and clay lube quick and easy.
My compressed air setup consists of a hose reel and basic filter/regulator; note the feed line coming into the bottom of the setup, which goes through conduit underground to my barn roughly 70' from the garage, where the compressor is located.
This is the compressor driving my air system in both barn and the garage. Since the barn is so far away from the house and is fully insulated, the compressor is inaudible from outside while it is running.
I'll be posting a build thread once my next project gets further into the planning stages, as I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. One thing is for sure, I won't be going with black and white Racedeck-type tiles again... the white ones are almost impossible to keep truly clean in a working environment!
