Thought I'd post some "current" shots of my garage as it sits; I am currently working with an architect and builder to plan out a 30x40 to replace it next spring. This is a 16x22' that simply isn't big enough anymore for my needs. Full size pickups/SUVs barely fit, and don't leave me much working room if I do manage to squeeze one in. Even smaller cars can be a pain at times.

The color scheme was lifted from commercial "facility image guides" for Chevrolet dealerships and GM Goodwrench service centers.

I have been detailing -- and specializing in paint correction -- for over a decade; the inventory of related supplies has expanded a lot over the years!

IMG_0465.jpg

As the garage is currently quite small, I use a simple Dimplex 220v heater to keep things workable over the winter; in summer months I've used a window AC. Climate control is pretty important especially when curing protective coatings.

My current -- and a bit undersized -- tool storage. The bottom boxes are early 80s vintage Craftsman, with the mid and top units added just a few years ago.

The hose reel here is fed by a simple 12v liquid pump mounted on the wall behind my stereo. I have a 5-gallon carboy filled with rinseless/waterless wash solution ready to go on the shelf to make mid-detail cleaning and clay lube quick and easy.

IMG_0469.jpg

My compressed air setup consists of a hose reel and basic filter/regulator; note the feed line coming into the bottom of the setup, which goes through conduit underground to my barn roughly 70' from the garage, where the compressor is located.

IMG_0477.jpg

This is the compressor driving my air system in both barn and the garage. Since the barn is so far away from the house and is fully insulated, the compressor is inaudible from outside while it is running.

I'll be posting a build thread once my next project gets further into the planning stages, as I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. One thing is for sure, I won't be going with black and white Racedeck-type tiles again... the white ones are almost impossible to keep truly clean in a working environment! :eyecrazy:

Thanks guys!

That's awesome! Kind of sad to see Bldg. 70 sitting there rotting away like it is now; although they did turn it into a billboard for Cadillac at least. I had family that worked in Plant 1, as well as several who worked for Fisher Body on Verlinden.

I bought that sign at the Olds Homecoming show in Dimondale a few years back; can't seem to locate an online vendor that has them but if you're ever around that event keep an eye out... I've seen them a few times since as well.

Here's another part of my collection of "Olds" and Fisher Body items...

What a great shop. It may be a little tight by today's car sizes, but it is beautiful and so very well appointed and organized. This shop is an inspiration for all garage arrangers to moniter and copy. Your space looks like it just calls you to come in to it. A really great and very happy place to be. You have done it up well!! Thanks so much for posting it for us to see.

Best Regards

That looks fantastic, love the color combinations, especially the orange on the front wall. I bet that tile is tough to keep clean but it looks great.

Cheers for the inspiration! Having a tiny 9ftx18ft certainly has its challenges but you have given me some good ideas! Brilliant work sir

9'x18'?! Wow... what if anything do you park in there? That's a challenge for sure, good luck! And thanks!

Thanks Herb! It took me quite a while to land on this particular layout and organization scheme, but I've found it to work fairly well at keeping work productive, and having everything not mounted to the walls on wheels makes periodic clean-up simple.

Thanks, I do plan to stick with the same paint and color scheme with the new build; I'd like to go with a floor similar to Dakota00's porcelain layout next.

Looks great.. I detail the cars in the garage and keep all my products in there. Do you move all of your liquids inside the house for the winter?

With the heater on the wall, I only move a few particularly sensitive and expensive items (the protective coatings) into the house; I never let it get below 50-55 degrees in the garage so the rest of the product is fine living in there.
