A couple months back I bought a Snap On cordless Li Ion CTR761B 3/8" ratchet off of the truck. I used it daily and it was fantastic...one of the best purchases I've made in a while.
I was working on trans of a Jeep and made the mistake of leaving the ratchet laying on the inside of the front wheel. I dropped the Jeep down off of the lift and started it up. When backing it out of the garage I heard the crunch and immediately remembered where the ratchet was. I looked underneath and there it was on the floor...in about 5 little pieces.
I gave it to the driver and he sent it back to Snappy. I got it returned today to me and it was a new unit. Amazingly, they warrantied it.
I never expected that at all...it was obviously ran over. Snap on has a program where they will fix it at a set cost but instead they sent me a new one. Just wanted to post this up as a kudos to how they handled this.

I would have tossed it in the trash, Sending it in even for a prorated repair is abuse of the warranty.

Its not a "prorated repair" its a flat rate rebuild service. Kit probably costs them $50 all in and they're charging nearly $400 for it so no reason to feel guilty in either case.

I was fully prepared just to buy another one. My driver suggested that he could send it in and have it repaired for a flat fee. I think that he said that it would have been around $150. He and I were both surprised that they warrantied it and didn't charge a penny.

You payed for 3 of them when you bought the first one. They would have had to warranty it when you wore it out anyway. Nice to see them take care of you.

I may have an idea as to what took place at the SnapOn warranty department...

Mary Lou, the warranty clerk, heard Your story about a ratchet, a battery, and a jeep..
She had just given Her Grandchildren one of those battery powered Jeeps for Christmas. She bought it at WalMart, and a Neighbor Lady helped Her load and unload it from Her suv, and carry it into the house.

She knows for a fact SnapOn makes good ratchets, and that jeep shouldn't have even put a scratch in it.:willy_nil

That's awesome! I 've sent something back for repair to Snap On, it was my SO torque wrench which I busted. I included a note in the box saying to call me for credit card information and I'll pay for the flat rate repair plus parts since it was me fault. They repaired and recalibrated it for free, thanking me for being a Snap On customer. It was a stupid thing to do where I used it as a sledge hammer to knock a wingnut loose.

I had an old Snap-On wrench that I managed to damage. I took it out to the tool truck and got a bunch of flack.....its out of production, no parts available, the list of reasons it could not be repaired/replaced was endless, so I gave up. Years later I saw a tool truck near where I lived and I asked the guy about the wrench. Long story short he took the broken wrench and replaced it with something similar. The point is you have to find the right person to solve the problem.

Some of these stories are impressive, Its good to hear snap on provide good customer service. Mistakes happen, honestly. I've heard the complete opposite of Snap on drivers avoiding warranty items like the plague.

I think it has more to do with the driver, Our driver is a real turd. But I have had no problem with them when I called about some thing. They sent me free replacement slides for a tool box that I purchased used. I told them that I purchased it used. Was advised that that box was life time warranted.

Even $150 is too much to pay to rebuild that ratchet. Assuming your batteries are good a brand new drive body is only about $175 but that doesn't include any batteries ratchet only.

I have sent out a 18v 1/2 drill and a 3/8 14.4 impact for rebuilding both came back brand new tools. The cost was like 125.00. Its a great deal.

I bought a long handle 1/4" drive ratchet in the early 90s from Snap On. It had recently begun skipping occasionally if I put a fair amount of force on it. Took it to my driver and his immediate reaction was to turn around to see if he had a new one on his shelf. He didn't, so he went to his drawer, dug around for a rebuild kit, and rebuilt the ratchet right there on the truck. Took him 2 minutes. His good service, quality tools, and consistent deals and specials keep him first in my mind whenever I need a new tool.

Glad it worked out for you.

Snap On is a excellent company, and some of their dealers are excellent.
