I am not sure what the risk is with cordage on something like this but I accept a little and do it anyway. I think its one reason the installer kept harping on the plug, he doesn't know why but it probably doesn't meet the letter here but in this app I am not really scared.
The main intent is to keep it out of the walls. A 10 wire and a 30A will run that without burning the joint down and as I mention a local breaker may suffice, wouldn't need to be on top of it but would be comfortable with it in the same room. All the rest is more **** in the line if its not legally needed, nothing better for motors than a straight shot to the panel.
When I was slumming I bet I replaced 6 or 8 of those over a few years in bars for air cond. I don't know a thing about it but its the first thing I check, burnt up pos, cheap **** ruins a good wire. They got to have it though but your comp may not and if it didn't I wouldn't.
