p: Well done

Mr P thats u **** proce for sure. I've had three of those, all very nice and I sold all three for well over $200 each. A buddy told me that he restored the swivel body by cleaning it thoroughly and then putting valve lapping compound inside. Rotate it until it smooooths out then clean it well and grease it up.
Wrenchguy, why would you swap a 474 for the smaller 473 1/2? Genuinely interested in your reason.
Gonna guess he has 2 474's and no 473-1/2, that's the way us vise hoarders think.

yes, i'd like 2 have a complete set of the parker double swivlers![]()

Sorry, wouldn't be complete set without a Parker 439
Is the 439 older? I notice the lack of a spanner requirement
What do you recommend to protect vise after a electrolysis bath and before paint work ?
Here is a 4.5" Wilton I just finished. '12/31/60 guarantee expiration date' on the slide. Kevin Scott jaws, I made new swivel clamp handles. Vise originally had a blue stone finish on it. Tough as freaking nails. ***** to remove. 62.1 lbs
Here is the C0, finally done. There's no beauty pageants in this vise's future, but it'll be a fine working tool. The best looking part is probably the jaws from Kevin.![]()
Anyone can explain what this type of vise is used for??

Seems to be an old blacksmith vise?

Supply and demand. Not to mention this thread has hyped up sales some.

Yea, but is this particular vise from a recognizable manufacturer, or is there demand for the extra small vises?

Dave:
Joe: are you baking the BLO in the little smoker you bought? how bad can that smell be because the results are over the top? BTW is the BLO sticky at all after baking or almost like a powder coated paint job?
Veeps and I have had a lot of luck with just Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO). Problem is I have to bake it at 300-350 degrees for about 6 hours and it smells BAD. But it covers bare metal great and is easy to paint over. Here is a little Parker I used BLO on.

Yes it's a blacksmith vise in the last picture you posted. pass on the import with the busted jaw even for $10, buy the old #4 Canadian for $20 and pass on the welded up one for $125.
anything else?
