Battery jump box? Which one? So many...

I need to buy a battery jump box, but it seems that it is another one of those things that the market is flooded with. To clarify, I'm talking about the ones that actually have a car battery in them, as part of the apparatus. Used to you'd mainly see them in the form of a 2 wheeled push cart, but now they seem to have "handheld" ones that you can just carry with a handle. Its going to be something that you can jump off a dead vehicle with, that doesn't require another running vehicle there, or a wall outlet.

I was looking around and there are indeed so many different ones to choose from, that figuring out which one to go with is a bit difficult. Is there a brand or set of brands, that rise above the rest? As is typically the case with this type of thing.

Or its it just going to be a roll of the dice? Anyone have any recommendations for one?

Here is an example of what I'm talking about:

Another vote for the JNC 660. We have used them for years. We have replaced the battery in the one we bought in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Still going strong.

JNC660, seriously is the towing industry standard. I use one every day for about 25 service calls. Will jumpstart everything short of a fullsize diesel truck.

Alright. Well that answers that. The JNC 660 it is.

I read some reviews saying that it will crank a diesel truck, just not for long. Anyone know how long? And I'm referring to something like a Ford F-350. I won't be working on any semi trucks.

C&P from previously referenced link above.

Question for the experts......I have a Diesel F350 and a Small Honda SUV. New batteries all around, but still like to have a Jump Start Pack for those little moments in life.

After much research, I have narrowed it down to the JNC660 or the JNC950

Is the 660 enough for the diesel...or is the 950 the way to go?

Thank you in advance folks!

I have the 660, on a completely dead diesel, it will crank it, but not for long, and it doesn't crank as fast as a set of good working batteries. If there are no problems with the truck, and its just a simple dead battery, it works fine. If there is a problem that requires extended cranking (10-15 seconds) with weak or dead batteries, I usually only get one or two shots before its too weak to try again.

Buy the 950, the 660 will not crank a diesel well. At work we use 2 660's or a 660 and a set of cables off the truck.

Not really a comparison but my Cornwell branded JNC660 will jumpstart things at 50% charge than those lithium-ion packs or HF jumpers at 100%. So yes I recommend them, that and they're proven.

Got it in, and already had the opportunity to test it out twice. This thing does not give a...hoot. It just keeps cranking and cranking until the engine starts. I think I love the JNC 660.

What you really want to know is what kind of battery is in that jump pack ?
It's the one that jump start a car engine, not the bells and whistles.

Not sure if you've already made your choice, but I use the ones you linked at work, and they are awesome. -40 outside and can boost dead diesels all day without charging.

Yes he did.

Went ahead and bought a 660 off ebay from a reputable seller. $123 shipped.
