I would keep the Deltas. The craftsman is a nice band saw, but the Delta is more industrial and far bigger, and with the VFD, more versitle

Justification Jake, that's why I love this place!

Outlaw, most custom seat builders use band saws these days for foam. I used to use an electric knife like used in kitchens before I got an 80's craftsman band saw I sold long ago. I still use the electric knife on repairs but cutting 4" thick foam square to the sides is almost impossible.

When I was working in an upholstery shop back in High school and Saturdays a coupe of years after, we used a band saw, but all the custom foam shops I have been in the past few years all use a hot wire setup.

It's not that hard to make one either :see:

I picked this up at an estate sale for $30. It's completely full of hardware.

After I loaded it in my truck a guy offer me $100. I turned it down. It just looks too cool.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited! It's just the wood version, no gearbox for metal cutting but I have a couple 3ph motors to try and plan to pick up a vfd to slow it down.

Now the dilemma, do I keep or sell the Craftsman 12" band saw I just restored....? I have a Delta 14" band saw with the metal cutting gearbox and it's the same Delta/Milwaukee logo as this 20" so I'll be keeping it for sure. I also have a Delta Rockwell heavy duty drill press and a couple other Delta tools that I'm partial to. The problem is I also have a full line of Craftsman power tools to match the band saw but who needs 3 band saws? I guess I could argue that they are all different sizes so I should keep them all. :D

Nines, are you serious in that statement:lol_hitti, I mean come on, your're a highly rated member here on GJ and that kind of thought even enters your mind?
Nice score by the way. I still have to find a table for my Powermatic so I can get it up and running.

That's awesome! I've been looking for similar cabinets but they never seem to turn up around here.

I saw this Powr-Kraft grinder today... $25... Should I have picked it up? :dunno:

(Edit: I believe the model was "WGV-5159A". It's a belt drive grinder - no motor included.)

Waltrip,

I'd took the $100.00 but maybe you have a special purpose in mind.

Congrats!

I went to my first sale of the year today. I picked this sale only because it was on the way to my work for the day. Prior photos of the sale showed few if any tools but I hoped to scrounge up something. At the sale I picked up two 7 ft. pieces of wire shelving and some new nitril gloves and offered $5.00 which was accepted and I paid with a $10.00 bill. When the cashier gal came back with my $5.00 bill I said to her, "How about you keep the five and I'll take that tool box over there." She agreed. :)

The tools in the box are nothing special but I love these Craftsman 5.00 toolboxes.

Keep in mind though, I go to a LOT of these things when I'm free. 90% are complete washouts, 9% are OK, and 1% are home runs. When I factor in the time and gas for all the sales that ****, those deals might not be such great deals. I really just do it as a hobby. It's fun though, a treasure hunt basically. Give it a try. It's either something you are going to like doing, or it's not.

You are so right! And today is my 1% home run day!

It's going to take me a couple of days to go through everything.
Hints: Kennedy, Starrett, mill tools and lathe tools.

dang Bluebolt, can't wait to see what you found I'm sure it is epic! I was telling Merc the other day that January is pretty slow but on the flip side, it's also when I usually find the best score of the season so you really got to get out there and see what's for sale. Lots of times the scores don't come from a sale that mentions "tools" and sometimes they're not even listed, just a random sign on the corner or even a CL ad like the saw I just scored. This is the time of season for major finds, peak season may have more quantity but prices are usually higher. jmo.

LMAO cbacres, thanks man! I have decided that having three band saws is actually vital and I must have been in some sort of trance when I posted that thought of possibly letting one go. :lol_hitti What size is your powermatic? I have a Craftsman 12" I am parting out and it has a table, no miter slot as it's the older version but the table is in good condition.

Waltrip, super nice find there, the drawer layout is special. The onle I have like that has all large drawers like the center row of yours. Mine is pretty rusty though, I would have turned down the $100 as well.

Hmm...tough call.

If it had a motor, absolutely but with no motor...I would have taken a pass.

If I had a motor at home that would be a perfect fit, maybe.

Also...I'm not sure who made those grinders...Power Craft was a Montgomery Ward house brand I think.

I do have a spare motor... That's what makes it difficult. :D

VintageMachinery says the "WGV" prefix indicates it was made by "General Hardware Co." In Milwaukee WI. Apparently the company specialized in grinders.

Yep, General Hardware made it. I have a similar tower but smaller.

How much smaller? These are sort of deceptive, I think, because they don't have the bulk of the motor in the middle. It caught me off guard at first. Apparently that is one of the biggest benefits of a belt-driven grinder/polisher. That, and being able to change the speed easily by changing pulleys.

.

You hit the nail on the head, heading to an estate sale, it was still a bit before it opened at 9 so I saw a sign for an un-advertised sale and stopped for a quick look. 2 hours later I was finally done digging. Never made it the estate sale the Excursion was full anyways!

I am still going through stuff and will not even get to the Kennedy bottom roller tool box until tomorrow.

Today was a good day. First stop was a church minister who was retiring and moving out of the house next to the church. The ad had said tools so I went!

First thing I see was a plastic garden/storage shed, I have been thinking about getting one to replace my damaged metal one. $100 bucks in good shape oh yes! 7 foot wide by about 14 feet long. I had to come back with a trailer and disassemble it, took about two hours. I think it will be longer to get it back together!

Inside I found a few goodies. My favorites were the Craftsman table saw wrench and the Crown label whetstone in the box. Also picked up a Stanley protactor, unmarked scratch awl, Brinks and Cotton C-clamp, Irwin Quick Grip, tied down straps and marine fogging oil which I use for bare engine parts. Final thing I bought there was a 7 foot tall real wood bookshelf. Total was $136, they added it up wrong the first time at $126.10 and I corrected them because it's bad karma to short the church people LOL!

So my second stop of the day turned out to be a real honey hole. I was heading to another estate sale but got there 15 minutes early, I had spotted a sign for an un-advertised garage sale only two blocks away so I figured I would pop in for a quick look. 2 HOURS later I was finally done looking. First thing I bought was a Kennedy bottom roller full of machine tools. I couldn't even get all the drawers open and I forked over $100 for the whole box right away.

After that I started looking in every nook and cranny.

First pic is some big Wilton clamps, smaller green pained JH Williams clamps, Petersen welding Vise grip, SK breaker bar with the extension hole in the end, 5 cans of R-134, USAF retired license plate, 2 big Car Lane clamps and a partial set of punchs for drilling.

Second pic is a nice vintage rolling chair

Third pic is two vintage metal drawers with another set of welding Vise Grips and a bunch of good hardware. The white cup is half full of ball bearings.

Fourth pic is one of my favorite finds. While poking around on an upper shelf I found a small plastic baby wipe dispenser that felt WAY to heavy. Got it down and it was full of NEW mill bits. :bounce:
Also in this pic is a Kant Twist clamp, a made in Finland orange Carver clamp, SK breaker bar with the extension hole in the end and a fairly decent handle Diston saw.

Fifth pic is a Milwaukee drill box full of new drum sanders, Greenfield chart and a Kar Products Karsert complete nutsert kit.

Sixth pic is another almost complete set of punches for drilling, half full can of WD-40, Starrett 36" LONG square, normal 12" square and 1" micrometer. The hanging scale is a 200 lb Hanson, there's a machinist block, 5 Pony *********** clamps, 2 Armstrong clamps, 4 new Hougens bits, #4 Phillips Proto screwdriver and some aluminum stock.

Seventh pic is 5 boxes of Roloc discs and an aluminum tray of aircraft bolts.

Cool Pexto! I've mostly stopped buying Monkey wrenches like that, but I'd have bought that Pexto!
