The torque require for taking it of probably due to either factory thread locking sealant like or loctite red or corrosion .

When am I successful at removing the crankshaft pulley on my Gen 1 Honda CRV , I will be using an new bolt on when I renistall the pulley .

Holy cow, 600 ft-lbs on a Civic??? Where did all of that come from? I'm looking to do my CR-V timing belt and the factor spec torque is only 130 ft-lbs.

Reading stuff like this is really scaring me away from doing it myself. Sad, because everything else looks easy to do.

On my car at least the FSM states to apply oil to the threads (and only the threads). Plus, there was no sealant on them when it came out. All that friction is coming from the pulley to the washer to the head of the bolt. Maybe it takes some sort of set over time. I know when I removed the bolt again just 3-4 years later, it was nowhere near as difficult, but still took a lot more torque than what I installed it with.

About 4 years later after previous post on this subject, here I go again ...... I am about to replace a timing belt on a Accura TL V6 Series J engine. This engine turns CW ( vs CCW on some other the Acura and Honda models) so that if the breaker bars with the pulley holder plus some help from pblaster soak and heat don't work , I will set the beaker bar on the frame and use the starter to loosen that darn bolt.
