Or a "show your model railroad" thread.

Sadly, not a thread I could participate in. I had to pack up the layouts I started (both the N and G scales) when I moved, and the bits and pieces are still in boxes 6 years later. :dunno:

I have a little "N" gauge (I think its N...) set we used for a couple of Xmas seasons in a box... Little; maybe 3/4" wide tracks? :dunno:

So it turns out I’m one of the few around here who knows how to open a Kennedy box. Second estate sale I went to the other day I was number 33 in the door and had to wait a good 20 mins to enter. They had a toolbox in the garage I was interested in rummaging through. By the time I got there several guys had no luck trying to get the bottom Kennedy roller’s drawers open. I noticed the drawer covers were sticking out of the box about 6 inches. After everyone gave up I wandered over and pushed in the drawer covers to unlock the box and it was “Hello Snap-on!” 3/8dr short and deep socket set, 1/2dr socket set, chrome swivel set, shorty wrench set, 3/8 speeder and a double socket tray. The Fluke, Wright Tools hex set, Cman torque wrench, 3/8 RHFT and the Starrett were from the first sale that morning.

Here's a couple of last day digging antics at a couple estate sales.. Haven't been out much this year yet with family duties and saving for the garage.. But here's a (complete as far as I know) Indestro (Chicago) square drive socket drive set with speeder and l-handle.. Amazing all the "in-between" sized sockets that used to have a purpose.. (31/32"!!!).. A Holophane (to re-sell) lamp shade, Cateye HL-300 that's like new and only needed the battery contacts scrubbed. Holo-Krome metal case, Starrett micrometer box in good condition, like new Barcalo 7-16"/3-8" DBE (yes there's an offset), baby Plomb 1120 and an old Husky USA extension and adaptor..

Also got a super heavy galvanized steel garbage can for the newly renovated laundry room..(EVERYTHING was recycled building material except window and base trim, laundry machines, Menards lights over bench and electrical)) Knotty pine wainscot, cork flooring, 1965 Crane porcelain double sink with newly powdercoated base, old cabinet turned I to workbench, 1" pine rough hewn barn bords for my "mock-beams", and the massive Appleton explosion proof center lamp.. Almost finished-just have to address tge doirs..
(Yeah yeah--it's al about the tools right?) here's the cheap garbage can that weights 20 lbs and holds water!!

Did you set the box back again like you found it?? ;)

Hemi,

That's a very tidy space.

Do you know the particulars on the faucet in the laundry tub? I'm looking for a new one for the garage. That one may fit the bill.

Thanks as I feel "tidy" is a compliment after it took me "too long" to get it done.. But--alas I told the Mrs she would have the nicest laundry/utility room of anyone she knows..and it just evolved into what it is.. The sink is an old piece with markings indicating a 1965 build date. (See pic)
I started with a concrete/soapstone sink that I got for $25--but after buying it in the dark and seeing it at home in the sunlight I noticed too many areas needing repair and eventually sold it for $100 to a guy needing a "garden" sink for his wife at their beautiful lake house...

c2c2387d0a0900b786266c922bbe62b7.jpg

I am no expert on these Crane sinks and online sales of these types of sinks are very outlandish.. Mine came with a $75 price tag from an unsuspecting city dweller who only labeled it as a "utility sink" with a load of junk stuck to it including paint as it was a city multi-family basement Chicago home it came out of.. It also cost me the rear window of my Passat wagon as me and the Mrs were laughing off our big score of the century and didn't realize the tub was sticking out 1/4" too far as I slammed the hatch.. Crassshhhhhh.. Glass everywhere and an embarrassing and coooold 60 mile drive back home early last spring..

I did have to replace the old copper union pipe unfortunately with PVC..

804b57a0431f22863f18fe5390ed88f0.jpg

I also learned that porcelain can be "hogged" out as the old holes for the faucet were way too small for the new models.. I splurged on an American Standard extending faucet with nozzle controls.. This will make for a nice "dog bathing" tub as well..

Just cuz--here's "what I've fine the past nine months in my garage/basement/kitchen/backyard" gratuitous trick design.. There will be a bench here as eventually the main entry to the house will be through the attached garage-

fc8553f059eae9e9ec41f1ffedfbc8d2.jpg

This will be for hanging coats and for other daily "****" storage..

Last weekI went to the final clear out sale of a factory that closed and scored this great wood rack for storing parallel bars. Best of all it was free, it was in their junk pile.

[The cool thing is I scored close to a full set of parallel bars at their 1st sale 8 months earlier. It was missing 6 of the 44 bars in the set but it was cheap.

It's a perfect match!

Don't you just love it when this stuff happens!
]

Yeah in November 2014 on the Main To Main garage sale. I passed on a 1930's vintage Craftsman belt/disc sander because the plate for the disc was missing. I told the seller why I passed and to keep an eye out or the plate. Fast forward to Nov 2015 the seller had found the plate and put them together and I got the sander for $20.

In that top pic, what is the ratchet just above those star punches (bottom of pic)?

Here is today's finds. Total was $90. Kennedy 1017 in amazing shape, used to store RF components, Huot drill index with a full set of Union drills, some cool skeleton keys, NOS drill bits, 2 6" scales (Starrett,Omega), and finally 2 Sait grinding wheels.

At first I want to say that's a great idea.. But alas--its really a scam and I'm surely being positioned atop a soapbox here--but I don't think you're the only one to do this, resulting in China-man tools now.. Rather than Craftsman.. Getting a ****** beat up piece, then obtaining a new one.. Are you re-selling them, or just hoarding them like you say?

Not only that, it probably also because of people like him that Sears decided to get out of the quality tool business.

Gaming a system meant for quality control... Never a good idea . I'd rather buy an old rusty crusty tools and make it right. Way more satisfying .

Hit an auction Saturday. Got some deals and an impulse buy.

Got the 5C collets with the rack and collet blocks for $60.

Got the BS9 tool holder with collets for $65
7211f943268b8ecf1f5e5c76e57b92d3.jpg

And the impulse buy was this Gerstner chest for $300. It's actually in great shape. The felt was protected with paper in all the drawers and I thing it's going to clean up real nice. Only bad part is they cracked the top of the front cover off while moving it to the auction site. Should be able to glue it up without too much hassle. The crack was thankfully clean.

BB, that Gerstner looks nice! incredible that the felt is that nice. I have that same size/config sitting under my 27" work monitor about a foot from my right foot. (Hey it got the thing into the house, and I can use it too....)

Mine is oak; yours almost looks like mahogany?

Thanks outlaw. Always wanted one but never could justify the premium on Ebay or luck out at a garage sale. It is Mahogany, but one of the guys said it was maple. (The one that fought me for it [emoji12] ). Hopefully I get some time to remove the hardware and scrub it down with Murphy's this week. I'll post pic's of the end result.
