Gerard

You and I need to change places for a few days. I had a round of the flu bug last week and am on a medication that does NOT allow any beer while I am taking it. ONE more week to go before I can pop a top.

Anyway, best wishes and a happy 2016. I am very glad for our friendship and discussions on the Journal this past year!!

Best Regards

Sorry to hear that. Sure, your welcome to come down to Florida anytime. Today it was in mid 80's and really not the weather to get you into the so called "Christmas" spirit. Usually it will cool down some but it hasn't.

Thank you once again for your friendship and all the years of support.

In fact I thank everyone for for following me through my garage journey and everyone's friendship. I don't take that for granted. You guys are the ones that keep me coming coming up with my crazy ideas and keep me going.

Walt, at post 165 all pictures show up. I had 2 threads. First was called "my shop" then I made the "5 Stitches garage" thread. I had Ryan combine the threads so from 1 to 98 is my shop thread and everything else is 5 Stitches thread. I was using the GJ to store pics in a album but was cleaning up stuff and deleted the album NOT knowing at all that my pictures in my thread would be lost that I used that method. At 165 I started using tapatalk for GJ so from there on pics should show. Sorry for the confussion. 2 threads, using GJ for picture storage. I posted the only pics I could find on the Internet of the missing ones in last post so someone could tell before / after. I also posted some before / after in posts as I went.

Re: My "Shop"

Well, I can't say I've been doing much in the garage. I really been enjoying a clean garage that I have been parking 2 vehicles in. Yep, 2 vehicles parked inside a 2 car garage. LOL. I did like the way I had things setup and felt it "worked" well but something about the craftsman wall bothered me. Here's its current layout.
670871bd662b265d0e505ec74f609c22.jpg
The big cabinet in the corner has been great to me over the years. It's served me well in my single car garage for 4 years and since 2006 here. Now it's time to find it a new home. Anytime I start a project my garage gets all jacked up and cars don't go back in for weeks so time I'm doing this in multiple stages to minimize impact.
Stage 1
I removed most of stuff from cabinet. My power tools are in cases so put them to top shelf.
f79e4f0644b7b6544f5edef3eb263656.jpg
I took all hardware and moved it in cabinet.
2d7cd861395513f14c6b5ab328c53784.jpg
The new/ used cabinet I'm getting is going to store all my hardware. I also disassembled the Craftsman stack and moved the cabinet over so this weekend I can swap it out.
a78f6255421395f4a7ed221bf5f7f250.jpg

Having the chest off the brackets I can now show the brackets I used to hold them on the wall.
4c342415897c790db9f9770ca2630a2c.jpg
The smaller held the 6 drawer and bigger held the 10 drawer.
Well that's Stage 1.

Re: My "Shop"

Well today I picked up my cabinet but first I will show you the big cabinet new home.
590f0f1cad74b2edef5d344dabd007b4.jpg

If this place looks familiar that's because it's my fathers garage. Yep that's all my old stuff from the cabinets to the tool boxes. We started setting up his back wall today. It's just starting phases and it's not full on 5 Stitches layout but a balance between what he wants and my ideas of how it should.

Meanwhile, I brought back home a old friend of mine. My 3 drawer lateral file cabinet. I first had to remove the dollie I made years ago.
58efcde53bb7232bc3b57052d783b2fc.jpg
It was just 2 X 4 with some casters. This was way before I had a welder or knew how to weld. Anyway I put it in its new home.
667f2d910035aaba8e55319734fdef22.jpg
I forgot how tall this thing actually was so dollie is gone and so is any thought of casters and lost one of my carts.

be51b688ccd4a7643659e9602d87e31a.jpg
I hate this cause I had everything but the water heater of casters but I will put some plywood down just to get it off the floor.

The cabinet will store most of this stuff.

Many many hours need to sort all of the hardware but I need more bins and most of all time.

I like the move of the cabinet with the toolbox stack. I really like the lateral file cabinet for organization. I think we will be seeing something new soon. Hanging on for the results!!

I'm liking my cabinet change so I'm sure you have a great plan. I like the idea of drywall screws in the portable storage box. Stolen.

Also be on the look out for a box of hardware that needs sorting.:beer:

Well, new layout for sure but I swapped the tall cabinet for the 3 drawer lateral file with my father.

I have a overall plan in place and future plan depending on what I find for sale. I swapped out the tall for the lateral file because I really couldn't find other place to more that big cabinet. Now at least I can move it to other locations. All those cardboard boxes where hardware I sorted into categories which still need to be sorted further someday. I need more bins for sure. Once I slim down those maybe I could use top drawer for other stuff but for right now that's the hardware cabinet.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Like the reorganization. But how you, Herb and others here keep stuff so neat is beyond me!

Thank you but in all honestly my garage is a 20footer. That's why often I'll say I wish I could start over. The layout wouldn't change to much but the finished project would look a lot better. I did it on a strict budget before the GJ. Now they make tons of garage related stuff to do anything to your garage from tool boxs, to totes to, organizers.

Now compared my place to others especially Herbs looks mine looks like a mess. I am a repurposing organized hoarder but not good with keeping the place clean. That's why I will post pics when my place is a full blown mess just so people can see It it at that state. LOL, I've told Herb that I would drive up there, sneak in at night, and through saw dust around just so all the rest can sleep at night.

I think you made a good choice to swap the tall cabinet for the lateral file drawers. I've had both and the ability to pull out those lateral drawers and bring things out to you versus rummaging a larger shelf is a real benefit. And swinging door clearance is no longer an issue. I do like the shorter three drawer model as well and how it fits nicely under your bench top.

Hmm, interesting.

I'm sure it will be great.

I'm thinking it will be in the end. A lot work needs to be done though that really never planned on.

I think so to. Even though I'm losing space the versatility of the lateral file out weights the lost of space. I wish it few inches shorter so I could have some casters but oh well.

Re: My "Shop"

Well it's going SORT OF to plan. The 3 drawer lateral file plan than is. I ended up taking all the totes out of it to use it for other stuff for the time being. The is a up side to this. I ended up using the small cart to store them in during this phase.
9219a8f4e0255d33223bcb2aeec7a586.jpg
I ended up moving the 9 drawer bottom to the craftsmans wall.

It's been cold down here. I know people north of me are dealing with worse than us but this Florida boy doesn't do cold well. Even brought my wife's prized stag horn in.

I made that hook to hold a heavy bag years ago. Heavy bag is gone but still using the hook.

Well when at my fathers I brought back home one of my inventions.

This was my first attempt at a grinder/ sander. The big pullie is a a/c clutch pullie and small is a idler pullie. The belt is a standard belt sander belt I cut down. It worked well considering its a 1/5 hp grinder with car parts. LOL. A fellow GJ member buddy gave me this so I abandoned the idea of making one.

Although, if I ever get around to puttering instead of rearrangeing this place I might try my hand at one. Well time to get inside and warm up. eac6bd3a9c7a3d6a3687389a78ed81f6.jpg
It's chilly for this Florida boy.

Cool idea on the belt sander. I have a
leftover grinder that I might do that to.

One thing I notice when you had the tall cabinet on the Craftsman wall was the paint finish. Now looking at the newest layout, paint finish is throwing it off. Any plans to repainted the tool boxes that need it?

Lastly it can't be cold down there with global warming and all the election hot air.:lol_hitti

That 9 drawer doesn't match the others, the drawers are all at different heights, you will have to fix that you know your OCD will not let that fly. :)

Yeah and that's not the NEW layout. LOL. I got much more to do. I promise it gets much better than that. LOL. The 9 drawer has always needed to be painted since I got it. It needs some welding done on in because it's heavy and flexes when moved. I so now with my new tank I just haven't got around to it. Most of the Craftsman need a touch up on ones I already painted and full job done on those I haven't touched. Although, the tall 5 drawer and middle 3 drawer are original paint. It's been good cause I use the Hammered pewter which matches well so it's good to show others a painted to unpainted box. Also I do things *** backwards. I get the box working and set it up then down the road I paint it. Things change so much sometimes I change a project I made before I paint it. I'm thinking summer I'll get around to paint stuff. It's usually dries a lot quicker with high temp and sun baking on it.

YES SIR I know. It's driving me crazy and the lateral file is also. I'm been looking for a matching tall 5 drawer. I havnt found one yet or if I did it was way overpriced. Also looking for a another 6 or 10 drawer chest also. It's all part of my master plan. I'll find one I'm sure. It's just matter of time.

Re: My "Shop"

Well after few days of a bathroom remodel at in laws and errands yesterday I getting some garage time this morning.

I still using my MDM ( minimal disruption method ) idea to doing this Craftsman wall. This morning I took apart the bench.
a7b64a4009d41817ee4bb9573adf01ca.jpg

Now to line up tool boxes to check layout i had. I know the pegboard and shelves really throw this off but those will be changed in future.

e38fce728ba0b2edbf38fca048e3e63a.jpg

Now my idea is is to find another tall 5 drawer to put at this end.
a0ed3d680b6f512152df6f63640de1da.jpg

Now here comes the issue. If I put my bench on legs and make it mobile which represents the wood.
88427bc8b98b7205f4bdf6fc60a57b0c.jpg
And I move box down as far as I can so it doesn't interfere which garage door sensors.
4fb493451dd4a3f8a66932f05c8275c4.jpg I block some electrical work I did cause chest will be on wall on brackets like before.
1318695446bb3daf69b3aa46f4ff17da.jpg

I would love this bench to be on wheels or a least on legs. Now here's other plan B I find a tall 5, cut down the bench and make it "floating" like I always had and put 9 drawer at end as my HD work table.
e92e494c37bbc33c91ba1b7c1867c186.jpg
And that doesn't interfere which electrical but I do lose bench with legs.
21338cec9643adf6bae4d03b12793a48.jpg
Now no matter what I do the bench will just cover the 3 small bottom rollers with or without bench having legs. This also depends if and when I can find a making 5 drawer bottom, 10 drawer chest or 6 drawer chest. I idea is to have 3 matching bottoms in the middle and 2 indentical stacks book ending each side.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

First off rip out the electrical and put a 6' power strip above the 3 drawer bases.

I'm confused on your 5 dr? Do you have one or two of those? I really like the second picture except for the paint condition. you want the right side to match the left but I see value in the 9 dr.

For the bench, how about inserts that go on top of each 3 dr with routed edges so each insert butts to each other. Done right the top would look almost seamless. Stain or paint inserts or add a long rubber mat. I'd integrate a metal cap on the center insert.

Now your pulling a "Herb Spencer" on bringing in the plants!! My left garage door end wall is usually filled with wife's potted ones and hanging baskets. Am I glad to do it? You know that answer as well as I do--LOL. Anyway come spring half of them will be dead, and the other half will be alive but making a big mess.
Looks like your into reorganization big time in there. I like the sander, and it should come in handy. Keep up the good work!!

I only have the 1 tall 5 drawer and the 1 tall 9 drawer. I would at minimum like to find another tall 5 drawer. If I do that the 9 drawer will be turned into a work roller cause it's twice as heavy and has presteel roller slides. Here's all the Craftsman boxes I have minus my machinist and carry boxes.
4f0dbbb423aa4ea3a3a59e334abdd56d.jpg

The electrical is confusing but here it is.
1e786bfae98263df030c2f559712727c.jpg

The top switch controls the top left 4 gang so I can plug bench lights in and they're switched. The right bottom switch controls all the garage overhead lights. The left bottom 4 gang is live all time. There are 3 circuits coming in and out of here. Light, fans, and 4 gang are all on there separate breakers. Plus when I made all this up I tack welded all the boxes to together. So modifications to this whole thing is a big PIA. Plus there's another line that comes in to the back from the existing switch that's there.

That's a suggestion with 3 individual rolling mini benches. I thought of that as last resort in case I can't get a bench to fit cause I do like using the bottoms independent of the bench when needed.
