Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well, I had a little accident last Friday. I had taken my torches off the cart and then grabbed the hoses to heat up a rusted part and guess what, the tanks took a digger. So now I have to buy some new O2 gauges. So taumac, you're not the only one that it's happened to. I was so pissed because there was no need of it. I will chain them to a wall if they are ever removed from the cart again.

Just my little rant....it's over now.

Re: My "Shop"

Took some time off to do some honey to dos. Back in garage today and I still haven't got back to sorting.

I really don't want to do it but I know I have too. I had couple of closet maid shelves left over and decided to deal with them today. I made some new tool racks.
Slip joints and vise grips.

Thanks. I really need to find a CD rack for the small pliers or some rack with a smaller gap between them. I've seen the dish racks but used what I had around. Closet maid stuff is also low profile to use it the swallow drawers.

Ah now I have to finish finding a spot for my air accessories too!

Good progress taumac.

Thanks, I usually just throw them in that drawer but since I still have 12 ft of old shelf I though I'll make one. LOL. Old cat food cans, reused plastic bins and closet maid shelving. Talk about budget organizing. LOL it works for me and keep mind of pile of sorting I have to do. Ugh.....

THE STORAGE WALL REDONE VERSION ???.???????

Been dealing with some messes around the garage as of late. Dealing with material for builds, nut and bolts, and just organization this place. I did start dealing with some material by start building a new welding table. That's not post worthy yet. So continued making this place function better.

I wanted to find new homes for Workmate and Jaw Horse.
I found a new home for the Workmate behind one of the Craftsman on the Craftsman wall. I found new home for Jaw Horse on top of fridge.

The stuff on the floor needed some moving around.
So moved steel bits down.

Lawn mower moved.

Edger moved.

The wood cribbing moved to be
easier to use.

I decided to have 2 compressors up and in use.

Bottle jacks and stands made more accessible.

Overall now stuff is easy to use and put back and opened my walk way next to the truck.

Great idea with the closet maid, I'm going steal that idea.....plus adding fuel line hose to my all of pliers. I've seen that done before and I thought about it. I have large hands, so having some additional grip area will help. Back when it didn't wear gloves, it was not as bad. Now that I wear gloves, I find myself dropping hand tools more often.

You are a funny man. Your mess makes most garages look like tornados just blew through. You really need to get it together Gerard:lol_hitti

But aside from the poke, it looks awesome as usual.

They make racks and heard they work well. I'm just tooooo cheap to spend the money on them. I find the CM shelving works ok with little modification to fit tools you want to fit.

The grips work awesome imo. They fell so much better then the slim grips. I happen to have black garden hose and 3/8 air line around so made some up. The garden hose are little big on the slip joint pliers so thinking 1/2 air line would be better. I say anything to give a new lease on tools just sitting around collecting dust. I started using tools I would never use cause didn't feel good in my hand. If one safety aspect of things new grips is one the new grips shield you from electrical if work with live wires and slip joints shields from heat when I use them when sweating pipes or torching a piece of metal.

LMAO, this garage is set up that everything must be put away to put cars in. Cars been sleeping on driveway for past few weeks and just got them back in yesterday. I've been jumping around from clean, organizing and projects. One of these days I'll finish.... LOL.

Thanks man. That mean a lot. I can organize stuff but if doesn't function with stuff over here and there then the place does look like a tornado hit it. I've been going throw better trying to group functions together. It's tough when everything to packed in here as tight as it is. One thing gets moved it affects 5 others. Also the attic has stuff and so does side cabinets outside. Move this here move that there..... That didn't work.... What if move that here this there..... Not grouped together ok try this. After many many many many many attempts I get something to work. I need more room or less stuff. I think more room. LOL

Re: My "Shop"

It's funny as I look at my garage it's the little things that make a huge difference. For a comparison I take some pics of my FIL garage. Now his garage is same size but entry door to the house is different and other is no sink in the garage but behind the entry door is a utility room which is something I don't have. Please excuse the mess. My FIL is still setting up his garage and also they are preparing for the community garage sale next weekend.
South wall.

f8959883e682b01cc8beb7555181210c.jpg

I really like that there's one full wall from front to back of the garage. Where mine is is 13 ft to the door.
Now from his entry door to other wall.
West wall.

Now other side wall.
North wall.
07c8ed6a9a97fc390d40fde2ae59469c.jpg

Only obstacle on this wall is door and electrical panel.

I be looked into few things at my place and just the ways I could lay out things different if I had his space. I picture so many different things I could do different.

Well, back to my space. I doing so little things to finish up the sink wall. That bench was messed up and reused so many times that I needed to fill all the holes. Here's my secret to filling holes.
3ba88a6ed193b0ed8b4cf4bfa3fa8815.jpg
It's liquid nails but I've used PL products before also. Wood putty is pain in the *** and chalk doesn't fill holes great. This works great. This is first pass.

366654f5f9eb06cb07a17c2fdad41a38.jpg
Here's after 2nd pass.
8760564b2f6ae2ab30cf1e4d5c584798.jpg
One of my favorite tools for this is this.
a1f3e24c28a7e4cf9f5f475f43e3daf3.jpg
It's a painters knife and works very well.
Some paint on walls and on counter and this place would look so much better.

Re: My "Shop"

I got alittle welder time tonight. I've had these round plates laying around for sometime now.
9867d51e6ce81aa5fd6d829ddb7e74ad.jpg
I wanted to add them to my new welder carts. I figure they would work great to use my O/A or propane torchs on. I wanted to have them removable when carts in storage mood and can mount them to cart easy. I came up with this plan.
f2d5c89e239749467e3351ca5b270659.jpg
Welded to pieces of angle to bottom and that would fit over the side rails.
8c5b25a46fcc1265ce4cdd56f2876373.jpg
3ee538c37ea47c7e894cace02fd8682d.jpg
When not in use I take them off and have a rack to storage them on bottom shelf.
a85f54d27a59d1da383bb087173320ab.jpg
Right now I have zip ties holding them until I make a rack or something to hold them. That one but the other I already welded a lug nut on.
f6d973c44535fe2bf96b37cb5fa83b59.jpg
Previous I used these in my vise.
4855bbcd78e568c66d57110c8ebd465f.jpg
46472fa6ddffe2ef275337fc59a92ad0.jpg
Havnt decided wether or not to cut that lug nut off yet and make it like the other.

By the way

Nice pieces of plate Gerard, I bet they come in handy.

Your about the same temp as here, without the humidity.

I have never used liquid nails as a filler, I will keep that in the data base.

I have to agree when it come to a garage layout its that make the difference.

Great idea on those round plates, using one for the welding cart and the other in the vise for a big anvil would really make laying things out a lot easier. Keep at it you have some very innovative ideas that many others will/have used.

Thanks, getting older so small and portable seems to be my theme as of late. With all the painted wood I have I usually just use latex chalk for small holes and the LN for the big stuff. It's a garage so alittle chaulk and slapping on some white paint makes a difference.

In drafting class back in HS I was taught work within the box you been given. So my box is garage, attic, and outdoor cabinets on side of house. I try to make the best of boundaries I have. It's a real challenge. I love garages and when at work I see other layouts sizes and configurations and always thinking wow if I had that or this I can go this or that with my stuff. I've dreamed up house and garages designs for different situations from a townhouse to a farm. LOL, maybe I should've been an designer.

Rather than put you in an asylum, or even The Asylum, how about you just come on up to Oklahoma sometime and help me finish some of my projects? LOL I probably have 5 years worth of stuff to keep me busy if I worked on it full time.

Sure, I'll put you on the list. I got few before you to do. Isn't it scary that when you look around to can actually say you have ** months or years of work to do. At this point I don't think I have years but a good few months doing it full time. Although, I have eaten my own words when I thought I've been finished before. There always something to do.

Gerard, you have so many things going on in your head that I doubt you'll ever have time to take on someone else's projects. But if you do, than I'd like to give you a vacation in Maine and you can help me get my space better organized.

When would you like to visit Maine? And I can tell you. that for the next few months it is going to be cold here.

LOL, I always do. My mind is a scary place. I wish I could travel more than I have. As of late I really think about moving somewhere. I've lived in my town for just about 30 years now. Florida is a beautiful place but I always think about New England area in some small village somewhere. We have neighbors that have a log cabin in Vermont and Its beautiful.

Well shoot, dlcwent just jumped ahead of me in line. LOL Maine is beautiful from what I've seen in pictures, but I've never been there myself. I don't think I have anything worth offering you to come to Oklahoma unless you want to watch some big 12 football. Other than that you could just sit on the porch, drink sweet tea and watch the wind blow. Haha now I want to go outside and sit in a porch swing, have a good one.
