Road chests are designed for service vehicle use, built to different standards to take the abuse of being jostled around the bumps both on and off road. Alot of people incorrectly think that any box with a drop front is a road chest, not the case. What did you sell it for out of curiosity? They are nice top boxes, but kinda small by today's standards.

Combo deal with it and an snap on cooler I had for $900. I wanted both gone for any price. I think I got top dollar on that deal

I'm weak willed. I need help.

I was bored and couldn't get that Cman box out of my head, so at 12:30 I decided to try calling the ad again. This time he answered his phone. 20 minutes later I was walking into his garage.

His prices were high. Some of the brands he was selling were SnapOn, Williams, Craftsman, MAC, and a few others.

The box was complete (including key), but the red paint is rattle canned on the front, top, and drawer faces. The original color is wrinkled brown. He wanted $50 for it and wouldn't budge (despite the ad stating "no offer refused". So I went down the bundle route.

In the end I spent $85, but I was Ok with that.

Once again, I'll have to post pics in multiple posts.

That is missleading i might of walked out just on principle. He probably used the no offer refused as bait and when your there you don't want to leave without the box.

Here's what I was able to pick up by adding $35 to his asking price for the box.

Craftsman Crowntop #43441 10pc ignition combo wrench set (-V-)
SnapOn F732 3/8dr bent handle flex ratchet (1985 ?)
SnapOn TM711 1/4dr flex ratchet (1981 ?)
Craftsman 1/4dr box head ratchet (=V=)
Williams SB-40 1/2dr 1-1/4" drag link socket (for vise swivel bolts :D)
and the key for the box

Sorry, the pic is upside down.

Well I managed a rare (for me) Friday Estate sale. it even advertised they had tools!

Not a huge treasure trove, but some finds; Channelocks, the dykes are Diamond, the small electricians are Wilkinson from, yes, merry old England! large calipers are Starrett, small dividers are Goodell-Pratt, Osborne hole punch, K-D Spline drove, 9 NOS B&D HSS jigsaw blades, Bonney ratchet, A cigarette box of brass washers and rivets, and an Abloy lock, again from England.

attachment.php

It all came home in this 30 cal Ammo can. #10 all!

attachment.php

Jeff Moss Alert!

Closeup of the lock. Note the shackle has been cut, then rewelded... :dunno:

attachment.php

The lock has a most unusual key:

attachment.php

At first I thought the notches were for the pins, but look close: this doesn't have 3 pins, it has 8! -Now, if I can get the thing to the open position... I may need to remove the tumbler body...

Had a good day today. bought axes and an axe head. Axe with paint on the handle is a Collins in original shape, axe head is a Bigelow. Pd $35 for all three.

Bought this cool little homemade vise, Pd 10

Bought this Stubbs saw by Bennet. pd $30 because I like it.

Bought this entire collection of wire wheels and stones and burring tools, all West German made, pd $15.

At Jake's insistence bought this 3/4" drive socket, the perfect thing for removing those slotted base bolts!
A number of you commented on my interesting 'hacksaw' I picked up at the local flea market last Sunday, well I came to find out that it is a Civil War era Doctors Bone Saw. Gross right? at least it isn't the original blade! Just thought you'd be interested. The fact that it has the name 'Stubbs' on it..well just creepy right?

Hit a couple of sales today

First one was only about 2 miles away, rare for me. Advertised LOTS of tools and man stuff. Got there and there was a huge amount of tools but a lot of Harbor Freight at near new prices. Lots of gun stuff but I am not into that. Did find a few items though.
Made In USA number drill bit stand which had all the drills until I dropped it. 2 ratcheting tap holders, automatic punch, Proto 3/8 ratchet, Craftsman flex extension and 1/4 RHFT ratchet in nice condition. Made in USA exhaust pipe cutter and 1955 edition of Machinists Handbook. $25 total

Second sale was 20 miles away but advertised machinists tools. I got there a little late and don't know what I missed.
Sargent square, unknown punch, Starrett "D" pin vise and 25' tape measure.
Snap-On thread file and offset screwdriver, 3 Waldens Spin-Tite nutdrivers including the 1/2" and 5/8" I have been looking for, Millers Falls scribe, Lufkin METAL folding ruler, Apex socket and extension and Proto 3/8" ratchet.
Slaymaker padlock, Heller brass hammer and nearly full tube of Lubriplate

Working Dumore hand grinder, everyone wanted to buy it from me LOL!

Machinist Chip volume and speed calculator, 1976 era Matchbox and some salad dressing!

Spent $45 total

Last pic is a close up of last weeks and this weeks padlocks for Jeff Moss to drool over.

I finally went to an estate sale here in Houston that didn't price tools in the stratosphere. I picked up a Lenox hacksaw, Craftsman 32oz ball pein hammer and three locking pliers including one branded Proto (looks new), Petersen and Craftsman, all USA. I also bought a couple of Rigid pipe wrenches and a Blackhawk pipe chain wrench. A no-name 3/8 torque wrench and a set of Eklind hex keys rounded out the day. Not too bad for $45.

Friday morning estate sale and I was No.4 in the door. Luckily the toolbox in a corner of the garage where only one guy could fit… so I planted myself there and went through all the drawers. Most everything in the pic I picked up there. The Snap-on 1/2dr 12pt short socket set from two weeks ago got their missing sockets today to complete the set. I got about 2/3’s of the SAE comb wrench set, the 3/8dr 12pt short set and the double open end wrench set. I was able to add pieces from stock to complete those sets. Same with the 3pc DOE low-torque thin wrench set. Couple of 3/8 extensions, two Knipex adj pliers in the back, a Fluke DVM, CPS leak detector and a temp meter. A nice set of the Craftsman USA ratcheting wrenches with the reversing levers and a couple of small needle nose pliers. Picked up a couple of those stupid Blackhawk sockets by mistake …. I hate how they look like Snap-on’s.

On the way back from the hardware store, I ducked into two sales. Nothing at the first one. At the second one, I unscrewed the 8" Craftsman bench vise from the basement work bench, and picked up the no-name pointed chisel and yet another Klein screwdriver. Total bill was $12. Nothing spectacular.

Edit: whoops, not a Klein, but a knockoff. Oh well, can't have too many screwdrivers.

Are those long boxes in demand? I've passed over several of them, because I couldn't figure out what I would do with them... :dunno:

Off street,

No idea if they are in demand, I've just wanted one for a long time. There is a knock-out on the lid so you can insert a large carpenters square where the short part of the square will be poking out of the lid and storage on the inside of the lid to slide a few hand saws into. I plan to use it for what it was meant to be.

I wouldn't say huge demand. I have a couple; one for saws and one for my big Whitney punches and strap cutters. they were designed for carpenters originally. Seems like not a lot of carpenters use them any more.

I spotted a CL ad last night while surfing and left a message for the seller. He got back to me around noon and 45min later I was handing him cash. It's a 1hp Cap start table saw motor. I really need a 1-1/2hp, but this will be better than the 3/4hp that I have for the 12" TS until something else comes along for the right price.

Model #113.12200. It's dual shaft reversible, with one shaft 1/2" and the other shaft 5/8". He was only asking $15. And it's a Crowntop !

The mount will go to the scrap pile, unless someone needs it.

All my stops but one were estate sales today... (People are DYIN' to get outa here! :p )

The one that wasn't was an antique store, where I got something SWMBO liked for tomorrow...

Wait, I lied; I just remembered I got 4 sockets for $2 from a regular stop (they are still in the rig...) 2 SO deeps 1 reg 1 impact, 1 MAC swivel and 1 Chromed Plvmb. Sorry no pic yet!

After that I went a pit out of my normal range and picked up this Kennedy 1018 cantilever box. (is this their largest one?)

It's very sound, but I'l give it a scuffing and re-shoot the outside in hammer-tone silver.

The contents, less two pair of gloves I removed before the pic. The Hammer I added, and is a Plumb, and is marked "U.S.", I also added the red box which is marked Giller and appears to be for a 1/4" drive ratchet set. it's missing the socket divider wall but that is an easy fix as it has guides for a simple plate. Everything else was in the box.

attachment.php

The best stuff generally; The sockets on adn around the red Giller Box are Kleins, except for the three to the left. hose are husky and a couple of Apex Bit drivers, A Kal (axle nut? socket wrench, A Starrett tap handle and some drill bits, several burrs and small grinding wheels, the Plumb Army BPH, A 6" Rigid pipe wrench, a decent feeler gauge (I found another smaller one later), a razor blade holder, and the cutest set of folding pliers; Swiss Tech marked USA.

attachment.php

Mostly import stuff; the big file is India, nit sure where the needle files came from, Sockets are metric Kal from japan including one wrench, two others from Japan and Taiwan, one pair of snips si from Italy, the other were Boker which surprised me.

The no mar (smooth jaws) "Water pump" pliers were free at another Estate sale. The guy proclaimed them "Yard art" as "They always slip!" :wtf: They are Proto's, and in perfect condition.

Another Estate sale this was a revisit to one I was at yesterday. This is the smallest "air hammer" I've ever seen, I'm thinking its possibly for stone work. I first was thinking it was for drilling before I realized the bit goes in and out... came with a reg.

attachment.php

then this Bag had tier chains in it, which is actually not a bad use, if your chain needs are modest.... I dumped the chains and put the air hammer in it. I shouldahve looked closer though as the botom had a piece of masionite stiched inot it (the others I have don't have that...) and there is a 3X5 hols showing that masionite.. I cam pt on an Iron on patch, but... :(

Last is this Powr Kraft box:

attachment.php

Full of 25 lbs of lead weights.
