I've never exchanged a tool for warranty claims so here's my ignorant question with back story;

I bought a Snappy 7.2v cordless impact from a fellow tech at a shop I no longer work at. It was great for a year but is now taking a dirt nap. Can I flag the SO driver down, hand him this impact, and have him fix/swap it? Or will I be out of luck? I don't know the SO guy as he never came to our old shop.

Power tools aren't lifetime warranty. Having no relationship with the tool guy you're probably SOL. You'll be best off by trying to establish a regular stop and building a relationship with the SO guy. Not going to help you with this issue, but it might help you in the future. I vote cut your losses and buy a new one.

You do understand that the power tools are not warranted for life, only the hand tools? Electric tools I believe are warranted for 1 year.

No lifetime warranty. The driver would have to ship it off to the rebuild facility and then when he gets it back he hands it to you along with a bill. Last time I had a drill repaired it was around 150 or so. You could also call Snap On directly and deal with then but its the same story.

And now I know. Thank you all!

And...didn't spend too much. Got this impact, the drill, two batts, a charger, and a Mac roll cart for $70. I got my money's worth.

If you really liked it I've seen them on ebay around $50 but you got a good enough deal to write it off.

You can have it rebuilt at the flat rate cost, I have had a few air tools rebuilt that I wasn't the original purchaser of without any trouble. Probably around $100

If your looking to get a new cordless impact check out Milwaukee. I was using the Snap-on counter parts for years and would get 2 years out of them before the units themselves would just **** out. By that time out of warranty and then Snap-on would have something better out so it would get traded in anyway.

Milwaukee has the nice 5 year warranty on the tools so if you are looking to get the best bang for your buck that is an avenue to look at.

Like the poster above, I think the Milwaukee is great. It's hard to beat. I actually prefer the trigger on the Milwaukee anyway.

You said same thing I would say. I've gone to all Milwaukee cordless tools. Snap On comes no where near as close for cordless or air tools (my air tools are I/R)
