2016 Garage Sale Thread

Nice haul Rickster.

My estate sale visit today was one of convenience, I knew ahead there wasn't many tools. Paid $7.49 for all. My finds are as follows:

Porto ball peen hammer Model 1324-P
Armstrong 15/16 Open end wrench
Proto 8181 1/2, 9/16 box wrench
Proto 1130 5/8, 9/16 box wrench
Proto 1120 3/8, 5/16 box wrench

Went to an auction last Thursday. Ended up with an Ellis 1100 band saw for $335 plus 12% buyers premium = $375.20 . A decent deal except I was the only live bidder after $160. Damn online bidders. Just to frame this auction a 12' lathe went for $35, big turret lathe $40, Bridgeport $250, running forklift $435 .....etc. No online bidders except for the saw I went there to buy.

Saw is complete just dirty and no blade. It ran when I got home. Belt cover is warped badly. Needs paint(verde green), bearings, possibly tires, cylinder rebuild, and a couple blades.

Last pick is after a cleaning with a brush and simple green.

Oddly enough, the day before I almost completed my Milwaukee Delta 14 inch metal band saw rebuild. It had been apart for at least two years. Time to sell it before I even use it.

Was out driving some back roads today, saw a sign at the end of a drive way....tools for sale....drove a mile or two past it then said what the hell and turned around. Guy said sign has been up for days and I'm the only one that stopped. Ended up buying a SLF936 a FLL80 and a FLF80 for $120 total

I have a Ellis saw, may be a little diffrent model. It's a great saw. You don't see them come up often.

Finally found what I've been after for a year or so! Some of you may have noticed I'm on a Craftsman "Power Bronze" power tool kick... So I've been hunting for a Craftsman 100 table saw with a pedestal stand for awhile now, and finally got one. Paid a tad more than I wanted to, but, I got one.






Older guy cleaning out an older shop, real cool guy with enough vise's to make everyone in the vise threads jaws drop. He actually giggled at me when mine dropped when I saw them. Still want to hunt down the original motor, and he thinks he saw the side extensions at that shop and will call me if he finds them, but if he doesn't I'm going to have to find a donor saw for those too.

In the fifth picture of the listing, on the right side, between the guy's legs (stop those thoughts you dirty bastards), you can see that he's sporting some very large wrenches.

I can't tell the brand on my tablet, but they look like they have a beefy/roundish handle. They could be early Williams Superrenches with the raised cast print, rather than stamped. But then again, they could just as well be imports.
Either way, I hope they go to someone that can use them, instead of a flipper.

Estate sale today on the east side of town in Roseville. I was #14 in the door and I got there plenty early in the midst of a snow storm.

A nice pile o' Snappy! A low purchase price could earn you some suckage for that haul.

Got all these empty tool cases for free on craigslist today from a pawn shop! I called and they said they had tons of people calling about them but i got there first and got them all! I don't know what i will do with them but i am sure i will put them to good use since they are free! P.S. more pics to come tonight on my other estate sale finds!

I finally got around to getting this tested. It runs well once I figured the switch out (slider switch above the ball) Probably for engraving metal as some of you said. Seems VERY awkward for that though with the hose..

Here's todays and the other days Craigslist haul. The Fluke 88v is brand new and paid $100 for it. The Fluke Ti20 is brand new with the hard and soft case plus 3 batteries which I traded 2 cord of firewood for, and finally I traded my penny Paslode nailer for the two Simonds wire cutter and terminal crimper which are both air powered.

Now I own 4 Fluke products

Well I took a chance on these and grabbed them, they just looked to good to pass up. I Just wasn't sure if these are still used today, Im sure the hard rubber ones are more desirable. These are all steel and very heavy, each box has 16 and weighs around 80 lbs and probably date to the 60's. I got them for $15 per box.

Nope, not going to make it. SWMBO's spidey senses must have been tingling, as she said she'd run my daughter down to school later this afternoon. So, with no other excuse to go out, my "retirement" remains in effect. Instead, I'm actually going to spend time in my garage making a thank you plaque for a guy at work.

Picked up this Craftsman home-owners box off craigslist this morning for $60. It's USA made and the drawers still slide really smooth. Needs some cleaning up and the bottom door needs some tweaking. The Saturn logos stenciled on the side are...interesting.

The rest of the sale, is a Yankee drill with bits, three disston saws( one has property or Pennsylvania railroad company engraved on it) and a manual drill with the underline craftsman logo still on the handle! This came from the same sale with the vise.

Madison - Way to go ! I try to do the same thing when I can drag my **** out of bed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But you still have to try. Nice vise.

Signal - That box was made by Waterloo near the end of the quality era. On the top box you should find a date in the bottom of the top section, on the left side, near the front. On the bottom box the date should be on the front of the bottom rail, about 7" in from the right side.

Both may be very lightly stamped, you may need a magnifying glass to see it through the paint.


No sales for me again this weekend, good hunting all.

Five planed stops, one was a lie, and were not open and even e TOO nearby had nothing.. Only 2 stops yielded anything, and those were the two I considered "iffy" All in all, slim pickings.


Claimed estate sale; maybe it is this time, but these folks have sales several times a year.

NOS outdoor duplex box, a bit over 1/2 lb of bar solder, silver plate soup spoon marked "St. M. H." in fancy script so I'm guessing Saint M(ark?) Hotel... Try square head, had the screw and a good level and the bronze boat cleat. that last may be a paper weight and there are no mounting features. (I suppose I could drill and thread from the bottom but paper weight is its likely use anyway...)

And a "moving out of the area" sale at a shop in a commercial area:

Plvmb Combo, P&C DBE, and a Proto 1312-P 12 oz. BPH.

Looks to be the original handle but its split lengthwise hence the tape..

EDIT: Almost forgot: this jack from stop #2 for $5 a 2 tone REES. with a very interesting gear drive lift!

The jack appears to be from about 1919 / 1920! and uses a double gear drive.

Just ran out and picked up the older Craftsman top box from a CL ad. Built in 1972 and still solid. Some scratches and surface rust but after cleaning and lubrication for the slides it will be just the ticket for my basement shop. $40

Nice find!

That is actually a good size for a top. Combine that with a two or three drawer mid, and you have my Setup for the pits at the track, only mine was/is Kennedy. (I still have the boxes, but not setup with track tools.

If I did it today I'd probably use a Montezuma slope front top though.
