Finally got around to grabbing some storage shelves. Got two of these. Very pleased for the money.

MH: i like those shelving units and i own a few of them. i really like that you don't need a bottom shelf and you can put the first shelf up around 4 foot from the floor so you can put a rolling toolbox or even a lawnmower under it with storage above.

any new pictures of the shop to post? how's the tile holding up?

cheers

Hey there Madhatter, I think I remember you from tt.net. I only recently created an account here on GJ, but I've been following your build since you first started it. I sold my Z about 5 years ago but I was really big in the scene from 1999-2006ish. That's when my son was born and you know how things go. I went by John Y(Houston) on tt.net but I haven't been there in years. Did a couple of ZCons back in the day too. Here's my old girl right before I sold her.

Wow, what an awesome build! I'm not far away in Harrodsburg. I take it that you run a import modification shop out of your garage?

I thought that I would do a quick update post. The tile / shop is AWESOME. Its some of the best money that I have ever spent....and the lift. And since I was done with most of the cars I decided to pick up a new project. 1991 Acura NSX. Built motor, single turbo and all the supporting stuff. Currently makes 440hp...will be higher soon :)

MH: your garage looks amazing and looks like you need to build a detached garage too since it looks like it's almost full now. were you just cleaning the tile floor in that picture or where you putting on a protecting coating and do tell what that might be?

cheers

PS did you sell the extra pallets of tile and buy the new car with the proceeds? i bet there is an artist out there that needs his car repaired that would paint an amazing mural in your 4 car garage. or do you like the plain walls?

I still love the Blitz 03's. My favorite wheel for the Z32(even if they're on a Supra).

Are those the ones that you had on the red Z, or are they a different set?

Just got done steam cleaning it. I had knocked out two projects since its last full wash and it really needed it.

I have sold the majority of the tile...only a couple of pallets left. For now my focus is going to be on the rest of the house (IE the part I live in) :)

Once I have it more finished I will go back and start adding more to the garage.

I had been wanting more work bench space for a while and wasn't pleased with anything that I could go buy...so, fab time :)

Top is 3/8 4x6 cold rolled steel. Couldn't be happier with it.

Really nice, Madhatter. I'm so envious of you guys who can work with metal like that. Learning some basic welding is on my long term list.

I just caught this, you are a very lucky person!

I love the separate areas, that has always been a problem of mine, as I have 2 finished cars, and a project car and 2 project bikes at the moment. I would be so nice to have a definitive work area and store area. I've sold finished cars because I had no where to put them lol!

How's the tile working for you? Are you really careful around it or anything, or just just don't even know it's there. Drop any good heavy **** on it yet? That has always been my concern with it. When I work, I work hard, and that will always come first to looking pretty.

Thanks!

Thank you sir!

The separate spaces has been one of the best parts of the new house I love having the dedicated work area.

Regarding the tile I couldn't be happier with it. I would do it over again in a heart beat. Its durable, super easy to clean and looks great. I have poured chemicals on it, dropped heavy tools, and recently welded on it to the point it left burn marks...that wiped right up. Any garage I build from here on out will be tile.

Thanks! This was all done with a MIG welder. Don't let basic welding intimidate you.....its MUCH MUCH easier that I originally thought. Watch some basic how to videos on youtube and then play around with some scrap metal. In a couple of hours you'll be able to build basic stuff like this table.

MH: i'm planning on buying a new Miller 211 once i get my shop organized and the space to use it. nice job on the table and since you have very little welding experience what version of Miller were you using and at what setting? how did you choose the helmet or did you borrow a friend's set up?

looks like your shop is in full gear now.

cheers

I got that same welder last year. I use it pretty infrequently and haven't even bought gas in it, but I have gone through one spool of wire with no issues other than my own faults. Seems like a great machine and I look forward to getting some more welds in with it. Hope you can get some good use out of it, too!

MH: if you havent ordered the Hobart yet check out the Miller 211 and several threads about it in fabrication section of gj.

Your garage and your new table look great. It was difficult for me to see pics of you cutting, gring and welding steel on your tile floor. Im guessing the floor survived.

Cheers

Some minor updates. The storage shelfs while very functional were starting to be an eye sore...so for $50 worth of tarps I cleaned them up.

Great work, madhatter, the kitchen looks awesome. I'd like to know about the cabinets too, I've heard about places who replay cabinets and doors and give good results. How about the floor? Refinished or replaced?

Kitchen looks great. I like the colors.
We still haven't installed the Haltech yet.
With any luck that we will get that done in next couple of months.
Did you ever get your issue while dynoing resolved?

Very cool. Kitchen looks excellent! I like the stealth microwave move. I assume that's a custom microwave box you put together in the corner?
