Wow, folks. What a cornucopia of finds this weekend! I think the season is fully underway!

In keeping with my "in retirement" (or as Outlaw says, my "in denial") M.O., SWMBO and I stopped in on an estate sale while on the way to something else. This was a first-day, company-run sale in Worcester (I didn't see Jake there, but he could have been--he moves like the wind). Prices were ridiculous on the slim pickings of a former machinist, but we found a few things for $16.

SWMBO found a serving tray and a blue glass flower vase (not pictured)

A worn out Disston & Sons saw (etch still evident but busted up handle--good for parts) and and unused wire brush that the sale guy thought was worth $10 all by itself. The lady at the table rolled her eyes and gave me both for two dollars.

Eifel-jawed Plierench. This last one was ridiculously priced, but I threw it on my pile 'cuz I've never seen one in person.

The parallel jaws can be re-indexed to different distances, it has a built-in cutter, and the deeply stamped text it just cool. This one's a keeper.

BB, those Eifle's actually came with I think 4 different jaws for different purposes. I still want a complete set of jaws...

Hopefully this isn't a massive party foul. Since I'm getting hyped up for the local tool auction to open again next Saturday, I was looking back at my photos of my best haul last year. I never got to post it in here because I didn't know about the Garage Sale thread. So this is a best of 2015 to get prepared for a good 2016 season of auctioning.

Everything pictured was 62$ out the door.

I'm hoping after a whole winter of collecting stuff up the opening auctions going to have some cool things again.

After I got home, I looked them up on EBay and saw the multiple jaws. I also saw that they came in a pouch. There may have been both jaws and the pouch on that work bench. If only I had looked it up before we left.
Here they are!
Cool pliers, Cody. Yours look newer than mine, but still the same design!

Cody, I have one of those wind up cord reels; my only complaint was that it got "sticky" sometimes, so I used beeswax to lube it in the edges of the reel and it's a lot better with that.

I was stuck using my harbor fright drop light to plug stuff in but now that i got this cord reel it will make things a lot easier that's for sure!

I've often wondered how the modern Pliers Wrenches would compare to these predecessors on a head to head test? :dunno:

I went to a local CL sale and purchased bunch of 1" and 3/4 sockets and several 3/4 ratchets. Lots of Williams stuff. I think one of the ratchets is a Plumb. Some of the 1" sockets are huge - at least 2 1/2". Recommendations on cleaning rusty sockets? Thanks

Hi everyone,

I don't post a lot but I've slowly been getting into going to garage/estate sales. I found this Bonny tool at a garage sale yesterday. Does anyone know what this tool is used for?

For the un-plated sockets, Fine wire wheel is quick & easy, & WD-40 and a toothbrush sized wire brush on the inside bits.

For the plated parts, SOS pads (NOT Brillo - too coarse and will scratch) and hot water, dry and oil.

Or oil and fine steel wool (0000) will do nicely either way

Nice haul

I start with a bath in Simple Green and a scrub with a nylon brush to degrease. Then, I soak them in CLR to convert the rust. After a swish in clean water to neutralize the CLR, I go to a fine wire wheel with a LIGHT touch to clean and remove/smooth out the chipped chrome. For the inside I use a dremel with a wire bit. After that it's over to the buffer to get a shine on the spots where the chrome is missing. To finish, the socket gets a good wipe with PB Blaster to keep the rust away and into the drawer it goes.

WIRE WHEELING / BUFFING TIP -
Get a junk screwdriver and stick it through the socket to use as a handle to keep the socket from bouncing around the shop. This works when cleaning up washers as well.

You have good luck with regular CLR for that? I've tried both Evaporust and WD-40 Specialist Rust Soak and had not much luck. A little bit of the rust turns black and wipes off but the majority stays. I've even done it in my sonic cleaner with heat so it was hot and it didn't seem to work any differently. I might try that this summer when it's nice enough out that I can be out in the garage screwing around without a mission.

Also, did you know you can insert the jaws the other way and have a spreader?

I started a PlieRench thread in the Vintage Tools forum after a brief search turned up very little on GJ about them. I also included pictures of some cool advertisment copy I found in an EBay listing.

Davefr - you indeed did well. Nice bunch of tools.

We have a local flea market each sunday morning - indoors still but will be outdoors and larger in a month or so. I find a few interesting tools for low prices usually. Found this one today - what I've always called a "crescent wrench" but with a bent handle. (Pen included for scale)

P1070859.jpg

P1070860.jpg

On one side "Buffalo NY USA" and "6 inch no76"
On the other "Westcott" and "Keystone Mfg Co"

It is in decent condition and will take up residence with a few other straight crescent wrenches.

John.

Well at work we have been having this industrial supply guy come around lately. Been giving good service so we have been buying bolts screws zip ties tube fittings and bunch other stuff we go through.

I got to talking to him about buying some parts bins (Durham drawers) for myself at home since ain't been able to find some used. He told if can wait a bit he would hook me up with some used ones in useable shape.

3 weeks later he brought me these

They have 32 and 24 compartment inserts and I have already stripped off the previous inner lid labels

Not bad for free.99 I think and I'm super happy

Just the Long C craftsman , the Witherby and Winchester should bring 15 X's your money! Nice score!!![/QUOTE]

The Kester should get your $10 back if close to a full pound. Killer score indeed, I would have been drooling even more if there were a couple of J B Addis amongst the other chisels. Suckage score indeed.

It looks like a clutch tip screwdriver. They are like a form of security bit that come in several different shapes and sizes. Not sure on the exact app.

Flea market today, again I spent way to much.

First is some SK & a pair of Klein pliers
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1457393203.277407.jpg

Waterloo USA tool box and assorted tools, best one is the Disston hack saw frame.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1457393355.136934.jpg

Lastly a craftsman tool box missing tray, Bluepoint DBE, Snap On screwdriver. Tool box was full, but most of it was scrap metal in the form electrical boxes and pipe fittings.

So 2 weeks ago when I picked up that CMan 100 on a pedestal... I've been hunting for a parts saw since. Been scouring CL and arranged 3 stops today...

First, unrelated to the saw, this BAMF Walker Turner grinder with it's original base!

The block guy's talk about a 45 second or so run down time... this thing was past the 60 second mark before I got bored and slowed it down by hand! However, the GF yelled at me for wanting to keep it... she wanted me to grab it to put a table top on the base. So, one of my block's went on the bay shortly after I brought it home this morning.

Second stop nearly took me out to Atlantic City, but at 1pm in March on a Monday, there's next to no traffic so it was a breeze.

$50 for this mid-60's 10" saw... because it was cheaper to go buy this than to get two extensions and a motor mount off of eBay. Plus some of that can be recouped with the motor sale. I do love the huge Crowntop logo on the front, may try to keep that piece.

Third stop brought me south of Philly in NJ. Member on here selling a 8" '56ish saw and some grinders...

that I only really bought the grinders for this bad *** motor to put behind my CMan 100

Love these every other Monday's kid and spouse free, a nice break from reality is needed sometimes.
