Nice find on the Williams set.

BIG TOOLS & MACHINERY ESTATE SALE -
http://nh.craigslist.org/gms/5497844112.html

I won't make it to this one--maybe Bobcat or Jake will report finds...

Well, I made it out to this one on the second day. I nearly froze in the morning cold. It was right next door to the Anheuser-Busch facility (Mmmmm, beer tours :beer2:). Too bad we missed the first day. The seller said she was busy the whole day. The garage definitely looked like it had been cleaned out, but there was still plenty to pick through.

Unfortunately all the hand tools were dumped into toolboxes to be sold as lots. The prices were a little high per box, and the tools were mismatched. If there were any sets left, they were scattered between the boxes. All the top brands were sold yesterday. There was a Craftsman carry box full of -V- tools marked at $50. Too rich for me, someone else bought it. The rest were cheap brands, unmarked, or broken, with a handful of gems that I didn't have an interest in scattered about.

She did let me take two items out of a box to add to my handful though. I ended up paying $15 for the following :

Sm. Rubber wheel chock
Old Forge (USA) #2503 12" pickle fork
Proto #5653 1/2-3/4 socket adaptor
Snap-On Tools Corp. (New Port, PA) #57R Vacuum Grip pliers (1946)
Craftsman #4441 3/4dr 8" extension (-V-)

Good job on price and fixing up the Saturn!!!

Firworks:

Good buy on wrenches and the Columbian vise. It is unusual to have the hardy for the hardy hole, as they tend to go missing!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't get much at yard sales this week, but did finish up a restoration on a Miller Tire machine of Anderson, Indiana which operated off a line shaft originally.

Decided to keep it as a line shaft machine during restoration, but also fixed it so it could be used for either a vise or grinder stand, if future owner would prefer.

Pic 1 as bought
Pic 2 restored
Pic 3 shaft off and plate added for potential vise/grinder
pic 4 to show where a power line could be hidden

After the morning sale, I needed to run a few errands. So, I decided to take the long long way home and dropped in at the flea market from last week. At 10am, the few sellers that showed up were only just starting to set up. It was too cold for most sellers, so the guy with the New Britton set wasn't there (**** saved). I picked up a few things from another seller instead. The total was $10.

Huot carry box
3 partial rolls of painters tape
Hyde putty knife

Well, here's the add for Part 2 of this sale. The "bunch of vintage tools" referenced by the staff looks disappointing in the pictures. Since it's only one town over...we'll see if I go.

https://www.estatesales.net/MA/Littleton/01460/1137504

I would hit that in a minute. HD Smith money wrench and valve spring compressor wrench. 3 hatchet and what looks like and old bowl cutting adze??? Also maybe a Stanley # 80 scrapper plane, brass bell ... I see lots of gems!

I ran out of time to go through the stuff still before preparing for Palm Sunday dinner but I did discover that I accidentally hit the wrench flats a little too hard:

However I got an almost full set of Superwrenches!
cDNEdwd.jpg

And I've finally got a "real" vise now.

I think I probably need to start hitting swap threads or something for wrenches because I've gotta have some people need to complete sets.
Congrats on the superwrenches. I've been keeping an eye out for them for a while and still only have two of the three line wrenches.

Bought this 96 Saturn from a buddy. It had broke the timing cover from an idler pulley breaking. Pep boys told them they didn't making that timing cover anymore so it would cost more to replace it than the car was worth. They called the local picknpull and got offered $64. They offered it to me at $65. I said deal without even seeing the car. Gave me the key and the title right then and the pep boys it was at.
I drove it up on the trailer, just no power steering or ac because the serpentine belt was off due to the broken pulley.

Looked online for salvage yards, found a timing cover for $40 shipped to my door. Went ahead and got a timing chain kit for it too.

New timing kit

Runs and drives for under $150. New tires, ac blows cold.
 looks great too, nice shape!

Hello this is my first post ever in this forum. Long time lurker. Been watching all of the great deals this year and most of last year. Today I got three Craftsman RHFT ratchets for $40 at a local flea market. All from one guy who had the set. Got one for each drive: 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2.

Only a few items today - didn't have much time to play around with my shop schedule.

Pic 1-2: neat little clip on lamp with a black wrinkle paint job, uses 25W tube incandescent bulb, probably 1960s since there's no zip code on the manufacturer's address. Very neat for $2.50.

Pic 3-4: Got all three of these Fulton-type military flashlights in darn-near-new shape for $3 together. The green crook-neck MX-991/U, made by Bright Star, one is standard USGI, this one is Vietnam era since it lacks the plastic side "ears" on the switch to prevent the switch accidentally being activated by being caught on brush, jungle, etc. The "ears" were a post-war addition. The long one is a genuine Fulton MX-994/U, which is straight and takes 3 "D" cell batteries instead of the previous ones 2. The last one, and by far the coolest, is the MX-212/U made by Bright Star, it's designed to be used in explosive gas environments, and is certified by UL and the Bureau of Mines. Designed to not spark under any circumstances, and is dubbed "explosion proof". Check out the text on the side of the unit.

Serial #AA 8483 Drill Press for $50. Don't know how well I did price wise.

I would take a shot at the vise. Most sales I go to like that , want to sell the whole box with contents. Usually easier for them. But good luck if you go. I picked up a athol 723 1/2 vise yesterday and a Packard sterling co 1/2 hp grinder for 30.00 for both. not great but good enough for the day.

Some nice scores this week fellas.

I hit the flea for about an hour this morning, got the Starrett edge finder, Brown and Sharpe micrometer and dial indicator and an un-pictured Craftsman cord reel light for $10.

Knowing my luck there going to be asking crazy numbers on these or the first guys will beat me to them all!

Plan on getting there 2 hours early, otherwise the guy in front of you will just scoop each drawer into a bag without even looking at what he's getting. I get stuck behind bulk buyers all the time.

I agree 100%. That place looks disgustingly clean and organized, all the good items will probably be in the lone toolbox. All you need is one tool guy in before you to belly up to the toolbox and grab all you are hoping will still be left behind.

This sale could be very overpriced as well! What happens if i wait 2 hours in line i get in and they want $10 per ratchet and $4 per socket? I just wasted 2 hours!

Look for a better sale to hit. If that sale was around here I would not go because it it so clean and all the good/only tools are pictured in clear photos like they are jewelry.

That is not always the case! I get to sales when there a bunch of people in line and i still walk out with a lot of tools! This one is a little different since all the main craftsman tools are going to be in the box. So one guy can get to them and take them all really easy since they are not spread around the house!

Ya' spins tha' wheel, ya' takes ya' chances.
Happens all the time, it's part of the price we pay.
It's still better than waiting in line for a sale and finding nothing once you finally get in.
If the prices are too high, don't be afraid to walk away. You're not obligated to buy and you'll likely find what you're after at another sale eventually.

Agreed, I find a lot of great deals out there, but more often than not I walk away from a sale empty handed. Either they won't have anything worth buying, or I see something I want but they want way more than I'm willing to give. I try to hit at least 4 or 5 sales every Saturday and usually bring at least something home, plus I check Craigslist several times a day for various tool or garage related items.

The first one I ever went to last year I was #4, and the only guy in there for a solid 10 minutes. Guy came in looking for the tools and saw my handful and gave me a bit of attitude, so I grabbed a few more things I really didn't need just to piss him off.

Are those worth any money? Those old toys look cool but i don't really collect vintage toys!

The RHFT is arguably the best ratchet Sears ever sold under the Craftsman brand. 45 tooth, double pawl, so 90 effective teeth. Quick release too. All in the early 70's. How may decades went by before it was surpassed? The truck companies did, but I don't think Sears ever did...

Are they worth extra $$? Not really, or at least not a lot, but it is a sleeper, and (so far) you can still get rebuild kits for 'em. Well worth having.
