New vise. Thanks to Bagged! Love it. Thank you sir! The vise is a lot nicer than you led me to believe.

I was planning to paint it up. But, after seeing it in the flesh (and in the ****), I think I'm gonna hit it with some BLO, make a new handle and put it to work!

VA, go at the tag with SG; often you can get the spray bomb stuff off and leave the original paint.

ForDriver6 --- Those Bison-Bial vises come in "Grown up" sizes, too...
Here's an 8"'er that is a beast...200mm is tad less than eight
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They came in size small to Old.---I would have loved to had that 8 incher but was watching 2 other items and never looked around.

Actually I'm really not sure what this is, it just looks like what has been discussed.

Weighs 10 lbs. 8 oz..---Has 2 1/2'' jaws.---Has a badge that I wire brushed to reveal nothing.---Don't know what that is for.

Sorry Old, it's a swiveler to.

JC: I think i'd agree with Meatsis and not replace the original handle and just press it or hammer it straight. That Reed 105 is a stout vise and I had the Craftsman version of it that was one of my favorites until it went to another member's bench in a trade for my Reed 4C.

Drives is right. If the handle is bent, you can clamp it in a BF vise, at the bend, put a 3' pipe over the top of it and bend it straight. I've probably straightened a dozen or so that way.

I just did one last week in a hydraulic shop press---took all of 5 minutes.

The bend is unusual in that it is a slow gentle bend. Not the sharp direction change I have seen on other vises. Additionally, the ball ends are both loose and have some wiggle on the handle. I am going to attempt to remove the original balls with induction heat and see if I can repair the fit. If restoring the fit is at all difficult (I am too lazy to weld up and lathe the ends), I will make a new handle and re-use the original balls

Taking another look, Exmax makes a point. I usually use a bench and hammer or vise and hammer. But this type of bend would be easy in a press.

Here is a pic for reference.

The spindle on a Craftsman vise that I finished the other day was bent the same way, but not as much. At this point, I don't have my press set up to use. I was able to straighten it by laying it on a couple of 2 x 4s that were spread apart, and hit the high part of the bend with a brass hammer. It took a lot of patience, trial & error because it had to be as straight as possible.

Finally found a nice Parker with the November 22 date. I paid $120 which is much more than I usually pay for a vise like this. But the way I look at it is, I will sell my other Parker 204 without the date which I paid $60 for, and call it even. :rocker:
Hopefully I can pick it up in the next hour.

Glad it made it. I did do some grinding to clean it up and hit it with BLO once.

Outlaw, I'd love to go at it with SG if I just knew what it was.---I looked up the acronym SG and got 133 meanings.---You are just going to have to tell me what that is.---That's the problem with having an IQ of 38.:dunno:

Z3: honestly when the big old US vise companies mention an economy line of vises they are still better made than today's vises that are not economy in most cases.

if that Trojan doesn't have any welds, broken parts or is missing anything I don't thing you can really ever go wrong paying $50 for a vise that size and that age.

These are some others that I have had. I still have the green and black wiltons. I had the NO6 Record for a number of years until I found the wiltons that I had lusted over.

These are some pics before, during and after the redo.

The pile of vises on the floor paid for my sons Honda Ruckus scooter. He handled the sales and split the money with his little brother.

Man I wish I had paint skills like you. The depth in hr paint is amazing!

Eventually I am going to learn to spray 2 stage paint when I redo my truck. I

Great work again!

I think it's a relatively small vise, 3.5" or so. I saw one listed here for $35 I think, considered buying it but had trouble with his schedule.

Nice work selohssa. Your prep work sure shows up in the finish. Top notch vise art.

There was talk awhile back on making a vise, I think Rileysan was thinking about making castings of a vise. I was introduced to a nice retired craftsman who has a dream machine shop and does top notch miniature work. He used a Morrison and Marvin kit http://www.morrisonandmarvin.com/vise.php the miniature models were copied on a 3d pantograph, molds made then investment cast. If you want to see more then look HERE. Enjoyed his pictures and his machine shop reminds me of when I worked for Big Blue. Cost was no factor in the machines we were given to use. Please be respectful of his images. I asked permission to share these with GJ.

Selohssa, your work is beautiful. You are truly a gifted painter. I couldn't help but notice the paint booth your latest Wilton was painted in. Is that your booth or your employer's? Either way, I envy your access to a paint booth!

Picked this up at an estate sale last week. Can't decide to paint it or leave it. I'm leaning toward leaving it as it is now--it looks never to have been repainted. I like the art nouveau lines. Everything about it is better than my small craftsman vise.

First I would like to say you do fantastic work. I have been following this forum for a little while and really enjoy watching the restoration of these vise's. I am a true armature when it comes to restoration but it keeps me busy. I do have a question, on the Parkers vice where would you find a data code if there is one?

Thanks
