picked up these 2 sets of Sears wrenches (ok, only 1 of them is DBE) last week. Not sure if I'll keep or sell, but I couldn't pass up.

Great set of wrenches, Paulm, even if some of them are half breeds (combos).

Well, I'm retired from garage sale-ing (mostly), but I'm still craving DBEs for my collection. So, I've turned to Ebay, where I can shop the world for good deals on old wrenches without spending my whole weekend driving hither and yon. At first it felt like cheating, but I quickly discovered that most auctions are for single wrenches and asking big money (for me, anything over $5 a wrench is big money). Well, I'm still more bargain hunter than collector, so it took a while but I did find this lot of 27 DBEs that I got for $30.50, with shipping. I'm super stoked--there are MANY new brands here for my collection!!! And just over a Dollar a wrench.

Here's the whole lot:

Brian, I believe that puts me at 139 DBEs, or in our unofficial official unit of DBE quantity, about 0.5 Twertsies.

Excellent purchase! I have been avoiding eBay because I know my propensity to forget how much I am spending. At least with garage sales, et al, once the allotted money in my wallet is gone, I'm done spending!

I'm at 117, so if we combine our collection, we still don't equal 1 Twertsie. I have work to do, lol!

Tough to tie yourself to a unit of measure whose value is ever changing........................I've been doing a lot of trading. Sent off a ton of pressed steel sockets, 57lb box of wrenches inbound. The scale is changing :bounce:

It's a relative measures, like the average income of the wealthiest 1%. Like that one, you just keep getting richer. Eventually, you'll reach TMTC, which is also a relative unit. :)

Can't wait to see your DBEs from the inbound box!!

Now that's a great reason to meet! Perhaps we can work a trade deal for a couple of items you've expressed an interest in!

No. I've found a collector who has a ton of what I collect, and I have a ton of what they collect. Just so happens we collect opposite stuff! So she's getting all my stamped steel stuff (which I don't collect) and I'm getting all her more mechanic oriented tools (which she doesn't collect). It's perfect!

Somewhere I've seen a forum poster with the following signature, which I find appropriate here:

"Does the guy who dies with the most tools win?"

Oh, and for anyone else finding this thread for the first time, feel free to post pictures and/or descriptions of your DBE sets, especially oddball or rare examples. No matter how big or small, this thread loves DBE collections!
I edited the opening post to say the same.

That could put a kink in the Space/Time Continuum... :eyecrazy:

There are a couple of members on GJ who's tool collections are so massive they are just a few DBEs away from achieving a singularity...

My pleasure, Drives! Sometimes it's fun to pull out every one of a particular thing you collect to see how far you've come (or how far you've gone, depending on your perspective :D ).

This was a good opportunity to see what I need for sets. They're all laid out by brand/style so now I can make a list and do some trading with you guys. I have lots of duplicates and 4 boxes I just haven't gone through yet. After I raid the flea in the morning I'm going to document what I have and what I need.

And that's not even all off them....!!!!

Can you show a close up of the wrenches in the red and blue case? (Bottom left if second picture)

My hat is off, Twertsy. Very impressive. Is there a subset of the picture that you use for wrenching on a regular basis or is it mostly a collection? For me, it's mostly for viewing, but I do grab wrenches off of the rack occasionally for projects. A big one inch Giller is within arm's reach of my lathe for adjusting the tooling holder.

The most amazing thing to me is that he has that much floor space to take pics in!

Those are users in the red & blue cases. Snappy short deep offset DBE set and Blackhawk S wrench set.
