Scored a few things at the habitat these past few weeks- scored these drivers-the flat tip with the screw retainer on it an underline C craftsman. I think this is pretty old and sure there are not to many left. Also scored a Toyota screw driver which is either flat tip or phillips and also scored a proto driver. All 3 for $3.

Also scored this ridgid saw for $3 and the new craftsman speed phillips driver for $3. Let me see... Yeah pretty sure I will take that all day long :bounce: I tested the saw and my newer ridgid batteries work with it. :rocker:

Had a little free time Thursday so I stopped in at the ReStore near me and quick ran into a thrift store as well.

Only 2 things from the thrift shop was a really cool light made by tensor, it uses a 12v bulb like you would find in a tail light, Cost $2.50 and 27 drawer pulls all for $1.00.

From the ReStore:
Craftsman 19.2v right angle drill 50¢
Craftsman chalk line $1.50
Various USA sockets 25¢ each
All thread rod $1 each
Black and Decker electric tool kit including drill bit sharpener $10
Black and Decker palm sander $3
rail of 1/4 sockets included 11 wright sockets ( 3 were odd ones a 2312,2310,2308) 2 craftsman and a couple junk ones $4.50
Rail of 3/8 sockets 3 craftsman v, 1 fleet, 1 penncraft, 2 junk and a snapon cpt110a which made it worth paying $3

Went to a pawn shop I've never visited before. They had three bins full of Craftsman sockets with a price of $1-$3 each. So I asked the guy if there is any deal and he said 2 for a dollar and we can do better if you get a handful. So pick through as best I can while carrying my 10 month old boy. Managed to find 21 that I need to fill up spots. Took them to the counter and talked to the young guy and he said 2 for a dollar, so I asked if he'd do 4 for a dollar like all the other beaches do and he said sure. So I walked with mostly 21 mostly 3/8“ & 1/2“ American sockets for $5.60. Just one of the 1/2" sockets would have cost me that.

Sorry no picture.

Sorry I'm a little out of order on my post, this was from an auction last Sunday. If you stick around long enough the deals start to pop up. Was able to pick up older craftsman router new in the box with bits for $10 (not pictured). Got all the rest for $10 total include a dremel shop moto scroll saw, Dixon buffer, 10" dado blade set, small Kmart grinder, pile of records, a box full of nos hardware, and a very cool buffer made by Buehler Ltd. It's got one of the neatest switches I have seen and looks to be either porcelain or ceramic. It has a high and low settings only which are 1140 and 570.

Not a tool, but it will soon be intimately familiar with a few...
My take from the weekend was this vintage Coca-Cola cooler. A pic of the good side, because the other side is all roached out.

Nice find. What are your plans? Re-furbish back to a working cooler or re-purpose to some other creative idea?

I would love to refurbish it back to working order, but I'm not sure if I'm capable.
The inside is galvanized and in pretty decent shape. The bottom of the cooler is virtually all disintegrated. It will take a lot of work to get it back.
Cost to me was $0.00. Someone just wanted it gone and I agreed to take it before I really inspected it. Still though, I feel like there are a number of useable parts on it. Maybe I should part it out?

The front, top and sides look usable. Does it have actual refrigeration system, compressor, etc? Or is this just an insulated cold box? Maybe the cheap route would be to rebuild the shell bottom and back with new metal and use if to house a modern cooler inside.
Or, if too big a project I'm sure you could find a buyer interested in the usable parts. Free is always a good score!:rocker:

Yes, front, sides and top seem structurally sound. Missing one of the large casters from the bottom.
There is a compressor still in it, although someone has cut the electric cord off the back. I doubt the compressor would be any good still. I'm sure there is a suitable replacement available, somewhere.
I'll dig into it over the next few weeks and see what it would take to make it work again. I just had to save this classic piece of Americana from being scrapped!

some tool and machinist box finds over the last 2 weekends.

- small Craftsman box, a little rust
- medium Craftsman box in great shape, came with a stand on wheels.
- Kennedy box, needs good cleaning and new felt.
- the Workmate
- a bunch of older wrenches in the Kennedy, along with a neat garden shears and a few older locks (no keys).
- 2 Pexto braces in very good shape
- also a 10 piece set of 3/8" drive Craftsman sockets (no picture)

all of this for $85. My full set of older wrenches is on my for sale page, link below.

Outlaw: no markings that I could find on the hammer. And thanks for reminding me the proper name (planishing). I could not remember that.

Saw these two body hammers at an estate sale last week. They were covered in surface rust but I thought they looked a lot like Snap-on's. Got them home, cleaned them up and they turned out to be Blue Points. Also picked up the body dolly there. Went to throw them in the body tools bucket but it was full so I spent the weekend cleaning them all up!

Heading out on a multi-state trip for work this week. My goal is to pick up something in every city I visit, as I head to and from the airports. The abiding parameters here are the finds must be transportable on an airplane, or easy to mail home to myself.

First stop--under 24 hrs in Oklahoma City, OK.
I had 20 minutes on my way to the airport. The ReStore was a bust, but the nearby Pawn Shop yielded a Craftsman magnesium pneumatic brad nailer with a big "BROKEN" sticker on it for $10. I'm admittedly taking a chance, but maybe...

Next stop is a day near St Louis. This one's looking bleak--not a lot near where I'll be.

My Herbrands are marked, and I have a Stanley-Atha that's marked as well. But all the others have no markings.

Oh, and my Fairmount slappers are marked too.

Hi, Topop. Next stop is Salt Lake City, then Seattle. Four states in five days, but not a lot of time in each state outside meetings and getting to/from the airport. There's an estate sale outside Tacoma on Friday that looks promising.

I got everything for $80. He threw in a lot of stuff at the end like the tent. The best piece is the columbian 4in vise it is made in china! I also have two boxes full of misc tools i haven't gone threw yet but there is nothing special in them.

Todays trip to the pawn shop. nothing exciting - 23 if memory is right for $2.00

I don't often look thru the socket table there since its only full of ****, but today I was burning some time. Found a 15/32" in 1/4" drive that has no marks except the size. I've never seen a socket in this size. Anyone?

Bill

gotta little shake going on there, haha

How do you guys think i did? Did i pay too much for this stuff?
Cody, since you asked...

I don't see anything there I would have paid $80 for. I would probably have passed on all of it, even at 1/4 that price. If you didn't have a toolbox or vise, then 1/4 would have been about right. But for me, I've got all those things and am usually buying name brand American-made items to upgrade or resell.

In the end, it's whatever floats your own boat. If you've got the cash to spare and enjoy the hunt, have at it!
