One good sale today. Mechanic turned contra it was retiring and selling off his tools. He only had high end stuff. May go back tomorrow to pick up some more.

Hit a moving sale just up the road from us. Had a lot of over priced word working equipment and a '72 Vette I wanted to look at. The Vette was 19K, incomplete with bad wiring. I passed. I did grab a $5 4" Craftsman vise and a $2 dollar pile of silverware.
The vise had some broken jaws. Not a problem. I'll make some soft jaws for it out of aluminum.

Here's my auction buys from a online auction earlier this week.
A Stephan Bader 2"x72" belt grinder, something I've been wanting for a while. It has. 2HP baldor motor and my initial play session is, it will eat some metal. It also came with a two wheel platen and a 3/4 wheel.

Also bought this Buffalo drill press with a Baldor 1.5 HP DC motor with a speed control.

It's a heavy little drill, made in Taiwan , but well made. It also has al keyless chuck.
So, when checking in to pick up, I asked about a tub that had about 20 2" sanding belts, he said if he could verify they wasn't part of a lot, he let me know.
Loaded everything up and they told me and the other 2" sander buyer that if we could work it out between us gentlemen, have at it. Easy, we each took half. The owner told us to keep going, there was still stuff in the tub. Next thing I picked up was a Tapmatic. He asked what's it for, said used with a drill press, OK it goes with your drill press.

Man, what a bonus. Didn't realize until I got home there was another in the box! Found the invoice from when he bought in 99 for the larger one.

To the next tub, asked about the buffing compound and a couple other things, $ 15 for all, including a Makita 1" belt sander and a little Tesco Tusla 13A clamp on vise.

What a day! I had a blast picking up and the little side deals. The guy that bought the other belt sander helped me load my drill press and I asked what I could help him with. It's the way it should be, helping each other out, I don't see it very often.
Apologize for the long post, it was a great sale day for me.

A nice Record Irwin Vise, a couple brand new Craftsman crow foot sets, and some old wrenches that I couldn't pass up.

One wrench is Fordson Tractor. A few are old MAC Sabina. The rest Dunlap, Williams, Heller, Cromal.

Snap On 3/4" socket was the find of the day at $1.

Found these yesterday at the community garage sale. Two of them are metal, and the other two are plastic Stack-On brand. All of the drawers have contents. There are a few cracked plastic drawers that could use replacing, but all in all in good shape. $20 for the lot.

I had 20 minutes on my way to the airport. The ReStore was a bust, but the nearby Pawn Shop yielded a Craftsman magnesium pneumatic brad nailer with a big "BROKEN" sticker on it for $10. I'm admittedly taking a chance, but maybe...

Next stop is a day near St Louis. This one's looking bleak--not a lot near where I'll be.

Woot! Finally made it back to my shop and hooked up the brad nailer. It shoots brads like nobody's business! Selling this should cover at least half of my road trip expenditures.

3Bay, is the Heller pipe wrench a 6"? If so that is the first one I've seen that small.

Pics of the trailer I picked up. it wil be a bit of a project to save the tent adn it looks line one edge at least had serious rot...

Beyond that, the tires/wheels, replacing at least the exposed wires, and general cleanup, not a lot to deal with. My Plan to reverse axle position on the springs will be a bigger deal.

If the tent is completely toast and unrepeatable, I'll consider one of two options. just removal and scraping it, or possibly, making a new one. it looks like it would unfold into an 80 X 48-50" tent/bed. I just recently bought the newer TentCot double wide as the old design would nat easily transport inside my Samurai. (too Big) The new one packs down to 12X12X 44 or so. (The single person TentCot packs about the same length, but even smaller - Got my son one of those for his birthday)

And the rusty pile of tools: I pulled a branding iron (HT), a couple of small adjustable wrenches and a Quick release DP vise that has seen better years, so not shown. Some of the more interesting things: a nasty looking cleaver, used horse shoes, a mold for a flat lead weight, draw knife, tack hammer, splitting maul, shoe repair foot, a hanging scale, and a number of candidates for a "whatsit" thread. I'm definitely going to have to fire up the Etank... More pics of this stuff later,

Today's saves:

"Supplies" and a few tools and whatnot. heavy nails Socket cap screws, a Jar of small rivets, A prototype board, some speaker terminals a couple of ring handles, a can of chain drive link plates, and a bunch of Arrow staples.

The tools" 5" C clamp, old nail puller (1879 and 1881 patent dates) 1/4" Craftsman Diver, and a (2 cup?) Mirro aluminum pot I got on the return stop on the way home ($5 stop 1 .50c Stop 2...)

Another stop got me another Ammo box, a small ax head (W. Germany, 2-1/4 Lbs), a brass finial, a grip staple that I didn't notice until I took pics was missing its "feed" bar... small brass Drawer pull, and an Aluminum Pipe wrench. $10 all

last Stop $10 - He started at ten for the B&D Hobbycrafter, and then wanted $5 for the wood jack plane, I got it all for $10. TRhe plan does have a chip oyt of the grip spike, and it has a buck brothers blade. I think its walnut...

Hit up the Portland Oregon swap meet today and scored lots of goodness-included is plvmb, proto, p&c, snap on, cornwell, craftsman. Also scored some front wheels for my duster project.







Close up of all the proto stuff- the 3/4 t bar was super rusty but actually cleaned up pretty good (and was only $1)

Plvmb stuff-I think the best find was a plvmb torque wrench for $1. Saw more than this there but had to hold back as I already have triples of lots of these Also scored this bar which I believe is for compressing valve springs??

My first stop this morning was at a 2nd time sale of a shadetree mechanic's house. I missed the listing for the first go around. I posted earlier in the vise thread about the vise graveyard I found, so I won't relive the horror here.

I wish I had made it to the first sale. There was some great stuff still left, most of it mechanics shop specific, and outside my meager budget. The SnapOn stack was off limits (I just know the best stuff was hiding in there), but this garage was still a honey hole if you dug deep enough. If funding was unlimited, I could have easily filled a 16' trailer (and broken my back in the process). If BlueBomber had been there, the sights would have sent him into a DBE coma.

While the big stuff was priced, all the loose stuff wasn't. The guys didn't really want to price things, so they let the buyers make an offer and usually accepted. I filled a small bucket with cherry picked finds (the SnapOn items surprised them, so I know I was right about the locked box) and went to pay. I lowballed at $40 (big money for me) and they took it.

My meager haul was from a $3 auction win, this is what was left after I pulled all the junk. 3 Vaco nut drivers, SK spinner, few random screwdrivers, and 2 of the rails are snap on. Also got a bucket of cabinet and house door hinges and knobs (not pictured) for $6.

So an Update on the Plvmb 1/2 ratchet:

As you can see the cover was held by one screw, and just barely at that.

Opened up and the reason was obvious: I've already removed it in this pic but one pawl was "glued" on its side with old grease; It had literally turned into a hard glue. (Or maybe it really was glue? Those translucent tan areas had to be scraped off with a knife blade, and there was lots of residue elsewhere that also needed to be scraped/chipped off... Then carb cleaner to cut the remaining grease off everything then re-greased and assembled.

BTW, the little Phillips is in the pic as the cross was so loaded with heavy gunk I could not get the #2 to start. So I used the little guy to get a hole started, and then the #2 was able to get in and moosh the remainder out.

The good news, all the parts were there, except one screw and one spring needed replaced (not sure what that munged mess was, but it was not the original spring...) I didn't have the Phillips screw in stock so used a straight slot till I can get one. The spring came out of my spring collection.

Hmm I could have sworn I took a "cleaned up" pic... anyway; lubed and reassembled; See anything wrong?

Yep that was after the second assembly - I had to invert the Lever 180 out to get it to operate. Apparently it's had a rebuild kit, and the PO stuck the lever on, peened it and violla! Bas-akwards! :tard: No clue how long the maroon(s) used it like this...

So another rebuild kit is in the future unless I have a a leftover actuating cam from prior rebuilds around...

In the meantime, it does operate flawlessly now.

Like others, I slipped out to same sale from Saturday and picked up a few more things.

Pic 2--some connectors that plan to keep

Pics 3-7 --9 ft pulling/log chain. However, 5 ft was of good heavy link, while other 4 feet of connecting chain was less heavy duty.

That's a "You ****!" day, especially for the $5 Portaband. That's right up there with the $5 Sawzall you found last year!

Outlaw, that little red SGI driver is a pretty rare item, the were OEM supply with Silicon Graphics workstations back in the day, I have one the same, they were a desirable item at the time, given that you had to spend about $50k minimum to get one

Pete, the company I worked for bought nearly 100 of their workstations back in the day. I have like 4-5 of them. I'm pretty sure Ender's made them as I have a couple non-SGI as well, including Enders and I think one for a local ACE HW store (I know the store sold them). Not sure if Enders still makes them, but they are great drivers. I use 'em all the time

Thanks BF. Its a Schrade 3 blade Old timer that I carry daily for "non food" use. I carry a second SS Kershaw knife for fruit etc.

Got the best deal ever this weekend. FREE!!!!! Helping my friends move into a rental home and as soon as I pulled up I noticed this 5 drawer cabinet setting out front of the house. A quick look and yep it's a very heavy duty Lyon industrial 5 drawer cabinet. Super heavy and great ball bearing slides.
My friend says that belongs to the previous tenant and they are coming back to get it. So the next day they come by to pick up some remaining yard items and start loading this cabinet. My friend says to them, Good thing you guys came for this cabinet, because my buddy (me) has been wanting that ever since he saw it.
They say, well we are just looking to get rid of it so if you want it you can have it. What!!!! I was going to try and offer to buy it but they just wanted to avoid dealing with it so with three of us there we loaded it quick into the back of my truck before any minds were changed.
Unfortunately Michigan does not know its spring yet and we had 2-3 inches of snow. Between freezing weather and this thing weighs a ton it still resides in the back of my truck until I can get a safe way to lift it out. I will probably add heavy duty casters as well. I'll get better pictures when I get it unloaded and the drawers put back in.

BB I'm considering getting more serious about old wrenches. I never really work to complete sets but just buy them cheap. Sockets pretty much the same thing. I can feel the wallet getting even lighter as I type.

Some nice "you *****" for you guys. I didn't fare so well even though the weather was finally decent.

Everything was $1/ea except for the good CM chisel which was $4. I'm going to try the Molasses method on the two rusty ones. Lufkin tape measure has an interesting pop out crank and is in a leather case.
