Wow nice baby Prentiss Jeff. We all are jealous.
Thanks! [emoji106]Ford-don't think the columbian is missing a swivel base. Has the 3rd mounting hole under the slide for fixed. I have a 505 near identical. The rest is a $1 fix! Score!

The set screw is actually just backed out, still hanging on by a couple threads. Got lucky in that regard. The slide gets tight about 3/4 of the way out, it has been beat on some. Hopefully that will be the only trouble with it. I'll fool with it when I get back home.Ford-I dunno...
Definitely looks like my 505, so I just assumed..
Least the set screw is easy to find!![]()
Thank ya. And for the record it also looks like a 503-m2 I gave to my boss, so I don't know for sure that the 600 series were supposed to be swivel base.Good luck with it ford!

Just to complete the picture, a Prentise can get that crack without the hammer marks.

Outlaw, since you brought it up, how do those Prentiss's crack own their own, just by due process of time?---Is it their thin casting?
a number crunching analysis engineer could probably model it...My thought is that the gate or the entrance of molten casting wraps around the coring and it meets at the center of the square slide. When the molten casting material meets it has already started setting up and does not bond together like it should. In plastic injected molds we call this the knit line. It is one of the issues in locating a gate area to fill the part. A incorrect gate location placing the knit line in a stress area could cause the plastic part to break. Maybe Riley could chime in with his thoughts.
Combine that with what I described...I saw my first one on ebay a couple months ago, and dreamed ahead myself the winner at $150, dreamed I say because it went much higher than my marriage would withstand. Was surprised to find this one locally on CL ... for $25. The jaws are 1-7/8"
Great find Brian. User or collection?Came across this at my first stop, fair price, gave the old fellow a $20 and carried off the vise. Very clean, no abuse.

Nice additions. Probably worth swapping over those QR swivel bolts from the new 3 on to your daily![]()
