Prentiss 58 sold for $1425
Here is the eBay link...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prentiss-Vi...139633?hash=item2eed80d7b1:g:HhwAAOSwiylW~nda

I posted the link earlier but maybe it failed. If you can't see it this time just enter Prentiss 58 in the ebay search box and search sold listings.

The site does not show very good photos.

Like joe said, it seems like quite a high price to pay. It was listed as pick up only for a good reason.

I saw a couple of Hakhoret vises in ebay today, not bad looking but weird, I can't find any info on them, India? One thing about stuff made in India, they like to name stuff after any of their 4000 gods. Never know who you are glorifying, heh heh.

I like the Chinese practice better, "Golden Bridge" (Had one of those). The golden bridge from poverty to wealth for the village, start a foundry and cast a few thousand vises. True capitalism is always worthy of praise.

It is also missing one jaw, believe me the jaws are not cheap.

Shift, I have to search advanced search on e-bay to find the sold listings box. I always wondered how you guys was finding sold listings.

Wow, that 58 slide was beat with the ugly stick. Makes my 98 look factory fresh, especially with new jaws from the Rev ;) (which, irrespective of cost, are an incredible value!!).

Kevin, the issue on eBay and sold listings is that if u r on your phone you get crappy ebay site. If you are on the mobil site go to the bottom of the page and look for "classic site". Go there and closed sales show up on the left, just check a box.

Thanks Joe, I never owned a cell phone but figured it out on my labtop. I had to go to advanced search on e-bay to find the sold listings. Funny, I get company every now and then and they get pretty antsy because their cell has no reception. Some do not stay to long. One of the benefits of living in the mountains I guess.

Bought a vise today. Not one that gets much attention here but a perfect match to my other one I own. Paid $310 and I feel I got a deal. Need one more for my collection.

Ya, really... That's like a $300-400 vise.. Thing is beat. I hope that guy enjoys his very expensive boat anchor. Maybe he can use the baby monitor he bought the other day to watch over the vise as it collects rust in a pond?

May I say that your photo skills seem to be quite fine the way they are.
As are your painting and polishing skills!
You are using photo flash units with umbrella bounce diffusers or what???

Bought this Big Parker today. Was so excited til I got there...the dynamic is welded. Still pd 75 after intense haggling. It has the tool and the static side is perfect, figured I can part it out and break even.

Then this guy came home with me. Got it for 30 bucks. Wont sell it, just wanted one.

Something about that vise doesn't look right. It looks to have only about 2-3" of slide out the back. Either that was the design or something ugly happened and whoever had it, shortened it. I thought vises safely open until the back slide is even with the static body. At 5 1/2" open, I wouldn't think there is much of the slide left in the body. Maybe its just a unique design.

VA: nice work on the pin for your swivel jaw vise. I know you don't own a lathe or mill so wondering if you like to share how you made that pin on the 101 thread? about every other swivel jaw vise's pin is missing so i'm sure somebody out there besides me doesn't own a lathe and would like to know how to make one. WELL DONE.

Chilang, great job on the collection!

Autopts, I agree, that Prentiss does look off. There's something a little sneaky going on with the placement of that magnet on the back of the slide during the photos. The description is slightly misleading as well, still not really a reason for it to finish the auction so high!

I don't think those are screws. They're casting marks from the mold. The screws probably held the name plate into the mold when the vise was made.

No fancy photo equipment just and I pad and a shop light. Was just shooting with a florescent bench light and it washed out a lot of the color, so switched to a Halogen shop light seemed to show better.

Color of the Rock Island is Valspar Satin Leafy Rise. I use the Rock Island almost everyday its is cool looking but does show dirt quick

CHILANG: personally I liked the blue that Rock Island vise had on it better than the light green and would like to see how it looks with BLO if you don't like the green either. personal the Athol vises look like art now and not a tool to be used so WELL DONE. i'm sure they will be used and look well on somebody's bench soon if not yours.

Saw an old couple from down the street put a tag sale sign on my yard yesterday. I almost forgot about it and finally went down at 11 today. Found the two vises on the right. My very first Emmert pattern makers vise and a very old Parker 23x. Pd $40 for the Parker....pd $50 for the Emmert.

The guy was a retired machinist from Smith and Wesson and he also had these in his basement...negotiating now...

Wondering what this screw in my Athol vise is for?

On an Athol, it locks the large central swivel bolt. On my Athol 623 I found the screw buried under a layer of paint, and it locked the giant shoulder bolt accessed in the bottom of the base. The reason there's no head on it is because it's a slotted SET SCREW.
