I guess I should re-phrase this. It's the black plastic grip that has the wobble. Can't quite tell if the actual metal chuck does or not. Tonight I will stick a drill bit in it and find out.

Can someone that has the m12 drill tell me if when you run the drill...is your chuck dead true? When I run mine it has a slight wobble. Is it normal to have a little wiggle or should I return it?

How much runout are we talking about? If it's just a few thou, that's normal. If it's noticeable, it's not.

Even my cheap, M12 drill with the crappy chuck that won't hold a bit runs fairly true.

Anyone have a size comparison for the Milwaukee M12 Fuel and the Bosche PS Brushless drills and drivers. From what I saw the M12 Fuel is pretty compact.

I don't have a pic (and was looking for one when I was thinking about adding the Bosch 12v stuff to my M12 stuff), but the brushed Bosch was significantly smaller. Enough smaller that I was entertaining the idea do adding ANOTHER battery platform to the mix. I haven't done it yet, because in a rare case of being rational about tools, I realized I hadn't actually encountered a situation when one of the red tools wouldn't fit. But when I do....

The M12 Fuel is not exactly small, no where near as small as Bosch. The M12 drills, brushed and brushless are both nearly the size of 18v/20v compact drills. BUT the M12 drills (brushed and brushless) are more powerful, they are as powerful or nearly as powerful as a lot of 18v/20v drills(not the top of the line brushless models obviously).

Thanks I'm leaning towards the Bosch. I know the specs show it a little smaller but that's just the top length, no idea about the height, so was really hoping for pics. That Bosch vs. Makita pic really shows a difference.

Yup and I did request a pic of either.

And when you compare the 12 to the 18, and you include the 5.0 battery for the 18, the 12 is like half the height of the 18, or pretty dang close. And my M12 Fuel hammer drill/driver rivals, if not outperforms, my old Ryobi 18v drill at a fraction of the size and weight.

I honestly believe you'll be quite happy with the M12 series, especially if you're looking for a compact, lightweight system with a plethora of tools to choose from.

Thank you. I actually just took advantage of a once a year sale locally where they sold the the M12 Fuel impact / drill combo at retail and included the 12V sawzall as a bonus. Also got a chance to score some blades at half off too.

The drill is only like an inch and a half longer, so it's pretty close.

"Only" an inch and a half...on something that is 8" long. Yeah and someone that is 7' tall is pretty close to someone that is 5'8".

Definitely a good deal.

I bought mine from cpomilwaukee.com back when Milwaukee was doing the buy a set and get a bare tool for free. So I bought the impact driver and the hammer drill separate so I could get a free stick light and a free 4.0 battery, then I bought the 3/8 impact and got the 3/8 ratchet for free.

Thank you, I thought so too.

Nice! I wouldn't mind a ratchet for sure. I'll keep an eye out for another special like that. Thanks!

cpomilwaukee.com right now has buy two bare tools and they'll give you a free charger, two free 2.0 batteries and a free bag to hold the stuff. Not a bad deal if you're starting out and need more batteries and need the tools anyways.

http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/mil-gwp-2-barem12/mil-gwp-2-barem12,default,sc.html

And if you buy certain tools, you get a free 4.0 battery too

http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/mil-m12-xc-battery/mil-m12-xc-battery,default,sc.html

And they stack too, so like if I buy the sawzall and the 1/4" ratchet I've been looking at, I'll get two free 2.0 batteries, a free 4.0 battery, a free charger and a free carrying bag. Not a bad deal at all, if they have a bare tool you need that will also include the free 4.0 battery.

Bosch for compact, although Makita just launched a new 12v platform that moves the battery out of the handle (a.l.a. DeWalt). It's exciting to see more companies continue to compete in a smaller 12v platform given how excessive some 18v tools are nowadays, but I've already amassed a good bit of Bosch, despite the fatter handle due to battery being in the grip being worse ergonomically.

TK, do you see what I mean? The impact body is roughly the size of the can. The drill though...it's the size of the body without a chuck and the Fuel model has a larger chuck.

The Bosch is closer to the size of the impact.

Old(er) thread, so pardon the resurrection, but I just wanted to share my thoughts with regard to getting cordless tools for home/DIY/woodworking purposes:

Call me crazy, but after taking a long hard look at my work flow and tools I actually use, I split all of my Milwaukee M12 tools between my uncle and my brother, and started buying into the Makita 12 Volt Max system.

The primary tools I was after were the much maligned 3-3/8" mini-circular saw, and the jigsaw. I work primarily with 15/16" S3S lumber or reclaimed thinner stock; I use a miter saw to chop it down to length and a table saw to square off the remaining sides. Any additional cutting required, and I'm either using a jigsaw or hand saw.

The mini-circular just speeds things up a bit and is much more useful to me than my M12 Fuel 5-3/8" circular due to the smaller form factor. The jigsaw has a dust blower, vac port, and lock-on button which my M12 jigsaw did not have.

Loved the power and variety of tools in the M12 system, but the 2 I needed the most, the Makita does a bit better. I would have loved to get into Bosch 12v, but we can't get the 3-3/8" circular and I wasn't going to pay almost double for the same thing by ordering through a European distributor.

All the other tools I'm after, the system also has: right angle drill, 3/8" impact, 1/4" hex screwdriver, 3/8" drill/driver, 1/4" hex impact, and recip saw.
