Gas leaf blower to clean out garage?

Hi,

I have tried several times to use my gas leaf blower to clean out my garage. Everytime I have a crazy dust cloud that appears & coats everything in the garage.

Is there anyway to use a blower to clean up the garage floor? Mine is a constant mess.

Thanks,
Rich

Does you blower have any sort of speed settings? I use a electric one set on the lowest setting and have no issues. If I had it cranked up to high it would be a mess.

I use mine all the time, its a larger echo backback blower. maybe you need to do it more often rather than letting the dust build up to where its a cloud

Perhaps open the garage door so the dirt has somewhere to go :).
I use an electric leaf blower with no issues (low speed).

Place a shop fan at the garage door and **** out the dust cloud.

I use a gas leaf blower to clean my garage occasionally. I open all doors back and front of the garage and it takes multiple "sweeps" to get all the dust out. My floor is pretty clean though, I use irobot dirtgogs, it is mainly to blow the dust, grindings etc, off the cars, cabinets, etc. I use the high power setting most of the time.

Yep - do mine all the time with a backback blower. I usually sweep first to get most of the stuff up and then open both doors and let her rip. That is one of the reasons why I have cabinets instead of open shelves though

I use the gas blower, handheld type and turned down low. Keep blowing the dust until it goes out the garage.

OK, you guys who use a leaf blower to clean your garage: Admit it, your wife doesn't allow you to clean anything in the house, does she?

Wrong. I use my electric blower on levelor blinds and even the furniture and also in the cars. We're in the high desert, and its very dusty here...

After installing a french door at a friends house, he came walking into the room with a gas blower and blew the majority of the sawdust right out the new door! Saved a ton of time. Had his wife been home, she likely would not have approved of said method:bounce:

Nope 2 times a year I go into the house with a leaf blower to clean all the high areas of dust. Open up the entire house, turn on the fans and start blowing out the dust. You would be amazed how well it works to get behind and under things.

An air nozzle on an air compressor works great and gives you more precise control of the air stream. The down side is the need to navigate the hose.

I use a cheap 20 volt Black & Decker, works good indoors

I just picked up one of these. It works great for what I need. Clean the patio, clean the garage, blow grass clippings back on the lawn. As for batteries, I have 5 packs and 2 charger. I got two with my B&D string trimmer, I picked up two more cheap and then the one that came with the blower.

I have the biggest hand held leaf blower that Stihl makes and blow the garage out frequently. I should shut the top of my tool chest. Too many leaves get in.

I still amazes my how much crud gets caught under/behind cabinets and other "stationary" items.

The weatherstripping on the bottom of my doors ***** !

I got a shop vac for the shop - if I tried to blow stuff out, I'd get so much dirt, dust, and pollen in whatever I'm working on (needle bearings, firearms, grease, etc.) I'd destroy any work I did.

If it's that bad (and I don't ever let it get that bad anymore), I'd hose it and squeegie. No way I'd throw that much dirt and dust and parts, er, debris-potential in the air.

Otherwise I'd be selling refurbished Garands at 11 cents on the dollar and know that I would have already paid the owner 150% of its value (and never get biz from them again). And get to rebuild carbs 6 times over. And replace everything I have that had ANY lube on it.

Leaf blowers - are for LEAFS. Not shops. Sorry.

I usually just break out the wet/dry vac, but occasionally I will blow it out with a gas blower... Never had an issue...

Gas leaf blower is my tool of choice for garage and shed. I haven't tried it in the living room though.

I try to blow it out with my gas blower on a windy day with the right wind direction. I let mother nature help **** the dust cloud out. Only blow it out when there is no sensitive work going on, otherwise I use a shop vac for the in between.

There's a reason that every single shop I have worked it has done it one way: with a broom.

It's the best way to handle it, I don't mean to be rude, but using a leafblower to do it just seems lazy to me.

Leaf blowers make short work of it but if your garage is anything like mine I wouldn't do it. If you have mice getting in your going to kick up mice poop dust and that's a health hazard.

Yes.
Lassen is 100% correct.
Coming from an Aviation background, I can't even imagine getting all that FOD ( Foreign Object Damage) airborne.:shocking:
When My shop gets bad, I pick up all the anti-fatigue mats, rugs, loose items and I put down liberal amounts of red Floor Sweep. I sweep that up, then mop the entire shop with a water/bleach mix.
My OLD shop space.

I just blew my garage out this past weekend with my electric plug in blower, worked well. I'd like to just get one of those larger wide brooms though because I think it'll be even easier and keep the dust down. But when my choice is small broom or leaf blower....well, leaf blower wins every time.

As said above, you must have a accumulation of dust and when you get it all out I don't think youll have a dust problem any longer. If your cement floor has never ben sealed, I'd do it as that stops and seals in cement dust.

Brooms obviously work, but I'm partial to vacuuming. I just think it does a better job and is a little easier.

I have tried my leaf blower, but it threw too much dust up in the air.

It helps if you can open a door opposite the big door for make-up air to get in.

The "anywhere but right here" method of cleaning can have mixed results, so many of them detrimental, especially if one has any sort of precision machinery.

The "concentrate it in this can" method is so much nicer. ;)

I use the leaf blower weekly after I do yard work, if you stay on top of it,there's not a lot of debris.
I also mop every few weeks, I don't like my white socks to get dirty when I need something from the garage in the house.
