Last one was a estate sale i was passing by. I saw it when i was looking at my sales to go to but i didn't see much for tools but i guess i was wrong. I got there mid day and got this stuff for $17.50 total.

1. 4 piece usa craftsman chisel set and great shape with the original box and paperwork.
2. really cool set of Barcalo usa open ended wrenches
3. Steel bond Japanese made socket set! I picked this up because it looked like a high quality set. When i took off the tape i found what looked like a craftsman flying v ratchet but it is not and made in Japan. Can anyone tell me anything about it? It is built pretty similar to the Craftsman ratchet besides the bottom of it.

I should have a extra selector for that ratchet if its 1/2 drive i had 3 of that style and one was a parts only and i think i have the selector some where.

2. ratchet lot for $20! Two proto ratchets 1/2 and 3/8, indestro 1/2 ratchet, sk 3/8 ratchet, craftsman =v= 1/4 breaker bar, firestone 1/2 ratchet.

I left some ratchets tho. He had a couple more usa ratchets and a craftsman usa ratchet that he was asking $10 for but i he liked his craftsman a lot and knew what they were worth so i didn't bother. I did get a bundle deal on these tho because he was asking $25 for the craftsman socket set and $5 per ratchet so i saved $15 dollars.

I didn't see until i got home that the firestone one is broken I don't know if i can fix it or it will end up being a display piece but i am happy either way!

You did very well - I am envious!

Here is has posting he had a lot of cool stuff but his prices were all over the place. He wanted $5 a oil can i can get for $1 or $2 at other sales. He was willing to haggle in the first 10 minutes of the sale and he was a nice guy that goes and buys too much at sales like me! I bought up all the ratchets besides a couple no name ones, truth one, and a craftsman ve ratchet he wanted $10 for! Kinda wish i would of tried to get that one for $5 more but oh well. He posted it last night so i guess no one else saw it in time? I thought for sure i would see some of the regular guys there when i got there.

Stopped by an estate sale after work and picked up a few things. No screaming deals but most things are in pretty nice shape. So figured why not? $41 for everything.

1) Original Snap-On Monopoly Game. The game is Dated 2000 and is in Mint Condition and in its original plastic wrap. $8.00

2) Vintage 'DETOUR' Sign. Measures 30" x 8". Printed on Masonite board w/ reflective paint. $12.50

Picked up some old tool items at one sale today (5/19/2016).

1. Sliding T-Bevel Square. Only markings was patent date on wood handle, which indicated Sept 4, 1877. Little research and appears to be a Stanley No. 25 and Type 2B

2. Sliding T-Bevel Square but everything is metal. No legible markings.

3. Spokeshave. No markings found, even on blade. Scroll design around the frame near the blade.

4 & 5. Brass/metal slide together ruler. Numbers appear to have been either stamped or etched. One portion slides out from other, to expand the ruler. I've expanded it as far as I could go for now, as it appears to have been pinched by prior owner. Very nice looking piece in person and pics doesn't do it justice on the crispness of the numbers.

6. Last two items, not so old. Wood Drill bits 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 and 1"

Oh no i am in big trouble! I just saw two estate sales starting tomorrow both in the same city. One with a snap-on top box and tons of tools and looks like a snap-on torque wrench so high quality tools! The second one has craftsman sets, ratchets, sockets, crescent wrenches, vice grips challenger tools and lot's more! These two sales could clear me out of cash in minutes. I was interested in stopping by this one in woodbury but it looks like that won't happen until a couple hours after it starts if i even have money left.

I hit the motherload at the craftsman ratchet sale. That is all i have to say right now.

Went to a sale advertised as a "Pickers Paradise", apparently they don't own a dictionary.
Only 12 of us showed up, but most left within 10 minutes empty handed. They wanted $125 for a 40's/50's Dunlap tilt table table saw w/o the wings. And that was probably the best tool in the basement next to what I walked out with. I can only imagine what they were asking for the home furnishings.

I found this hidden in the corner behind the workbench. It weighs 43lbs and about 16" tall, but I carried it up one handed and made it look light, so she wouldn't jack up the price based on weight. I nearly broke my arm, and a foot when I put it down, to get a Hamilton out of my pocket.

For $10 I took home an unmarked screw jack (railroad, truck, house). It's missing the head, but the screw is 2-1/2"dia. !! It has to be at least a 20ton to 30ton jack. It will cost me more than I paid just for shipping on a new head, let alone the cost of the part.

I have been in the market for a tap and die set for a while. This popped on CL nearby and I could not pass it up. Cheaper than import sets I have considered, and I talked to the Matco salesman and he confirmed they are guaranteed for life. I was not sure that would be the case for tools like taps and drill bits. Actually he told me their drill bits under 0.25" are not guaranteed, but larger are - against breakage but not dulling. But he added dull bits that might get hit by a hammer are covered.

Anyway, paid $125 for this, the new one lists for $311. Only a few of these have even been used.

Can anyone tell me the date on this set?

No earlier than October 1940, which is the first time the New Britain version (NS-40) of this ratchet shows up in a New Britain catalog with a short direction selector switch and three bands of knurling around the handle. In the 1930's these ratchets had a handle that was all-knurled, with a long selector switch with "Frankenstein" buttons, and then a long selector switch without "Frankenstein" buttons. Hard to tell if the other pieces are natural steel or chromed. If natural steel, it's probably wartime. If chromed, probably late 1940's. The box looks wartime to me. Nice find.

Please let me know if the ratchet has any other forged-in markings. Either PAT PEND or sometimes a number.

Fridays are usually the first day of garage sales and estate sales around our neck of the woods. I told my wife to be on the lookout for any hand tools with "Made in USA" on them. She bought these for $2 and asked me if she got a good deal. Guess I'll keep her.

Edited to add: Kind of hard to read so from top to bottom 7/8" Thorsen, 7/8", 3/4", 11/16" Macs, 7/16", 9/16" Williams.

I don't know a lot about them but the Macs look pretty old.

This is my firsts post and I will most likely be needing a bit of help, but I picked up a 10 hp Saylor-Beall 707 on a 120 gal tank over the week for $140 at an online auction.
The motor is 3-phase and after doing some research, mostly on this forum I came to the conclusion that I'd need to go single-phase 7.5 hp or possibly 5 hp...(still need some verification) I like the thought of running a 5 hp motor as my applications will be minimal. It just so happened that I also picked up an old benchtop brake lathe (that I bought for the bench as a welding table) for $25 at the same auction. Upon inspection of the motor plate I was thrilled to find that the motor attached to the brake lathe was a WEG 5hp single phase compressor motor. I'll post pics in a second.

Got my first Friday off and the weather is decent so for lunch today I hit a local estate sale .They were asking $325 for a Craftsman toolbox and contents,after sifting thru the contents I asked if they'd sell tools by the piece and the clerk said yes.She figured most tools would be $3 each,but she'd have Jan,the boss,out to price a bundle or multiples so I ended up with this group:

This was the sale with the snap-on torque wrench and snap on top box. I got there 10 minutes late and it ended up having a bunch of snap-on tools. The regular that i got my craftsman ratchets taken from and the one sale got most of it. They only wanted $125 for the snap-on top and craftsman bottom box but i didn't have the space. They had some snap-on wrench sets for $125 but i didn't feel it was it for me. Here is what i got for $67.

On Friday, heard on a radio show about a yard sale that I didn't have on my list. When they listed items they had for sale, they mentioned a cast iron cauldron with stand. Since I was close, went up immediately and ended up with item. Cauldron is 24 inches wide, 14 inches deep and when sitting on the stand, it is 22 inches high. Put it on scale and the cauldron alone tips scale at 80 pounds. Cleaned it some, and it does hold water. Pics 1 & 2

Your first post and already YOU ****! Should be pretty easy to swap that 5hp motor over to the compressor, just pay attention to the motor rpm and get an appropriate size motor pulley for the correct final drive ratio for 5hp (compressor pump should be spinning at about half the speed of the 10hp setup.) If you have some extra pulleys laying around, try a few different configurations and check the motor current with a clamp meter, and get the pump spinning as fast as possible without exceeding the amps listed on the motor data plate. You can probably sell the brake lathe without the motor for what you've got invested in the whole lot (hell I'd be tempted to buy it.)

The bagged them up in mostly $5 and $10 lots but i only wanted a tool or two out of each bag but the lady let me pick what i wanted. There were a lot of brand new never opened vintage craftsman there as well. Let's just say i cleaned them out of the best stuff. The total was $101 but they took $80 for everything.
