I have an old Yeats aluminum appliance truck and its been great. It does need need tread belts.
Maybe you can build a removable lift bracket (old fashion wrecker boom) that attaches to a hand truck and use it like the manhole lift I posted. A two in one tool.

Today we were supposed to have a "preliminary final inspection". That's sort of like Double Secret Probation. The idea was to have an inspector come over to look over the building in general but the area around the Mezzanine Stairs and Loading Dock in particular. The Inspector would then give direction on what railing was needed where.
We never heard from the Inspector - he just arrived and called the Builder's Foreman. Fortunately the Builder's Foreman was nearby and came over to the property. Apparently they walked around and discussed things. I didn't even know they had been here. I may have been at the Grocery Store buying milk & bread.
I'm meeting with the Builder tomorrow to map out the few remaining tasks to be done before the construction phase of the Lone Beech Garage ends.
I did do some work on the Yost 33C Vise today.
The vise was prepped by masking off areas that needed to be protected from paint.
Grey Rustoleum Primer was sprayed onto the vise.
The directions on the spray cans indicated that the top coat could be applied either within an hour or after a 72 hour wait. I waited a half hour and then sprayed the vise with Rustoleum Dark Machine Gray.

nice, when I apprenticed I got a toolmaker bench and a Yost vise. First task was to urethane the bench, mount the vise and run are lines to the bench. that thing brings back memories. I wish I could find a toolmakers bench, they were built by a guy in Dayton, and I would put a Yost on it and feel 21 again

When I read "Toolmaker Bench" I was imagining an item made of steel. The nice wood desk-like piece of furniture in your picture was a surprise to me.
When I Googled "Toolmaker Bench" I saw an image of one like you posted and followed the link to an outfit in Dayton, OH that makes them. At that site there was a bit of information regarding the genesis of this bench.

yeah, I assume the guy in Dayton is the same from say, 29 years ago, but the ones I found new are $700 and Im in Florida. I hope to find a used one (for a patina as well as price) at some point around august or so that I can pick up while Im up visiting family. They seem to be well loved because they don't come up very often and only in the Dayton, Cincy area. Those are some serious benches. I had a 1-1/2 thick by 2x2 steel benchplate on that plus numerous times I had piles of 75# cavities being stoned or modified by hand.

The Builder & Builder's Foreman came over to discuss the "end game" at 3:30 pm today. Most of the discussion revolved around the railing the inspector had indicated would be required and the dirt moving work required to smooth the transition from driveway to the areas adjacent to the driveway.
Of particular interest was the requirement that the loading dock have a railing to prevent anyone from using the loading dock.
Ha!
The inspector was a "new guy" and the Builder is going to discuss this situation further with one of the "old head" inspectors.
I had opened the Garage Door on the west end of the Drive Through Bay so that we could easily get out to the Loading Dock area. After the Builder and the Foreman had left I returned to the interior of the Lone Beech Garage to close that Garage Door. As I entered the building I saw...
...this gal bouncing along the 16-foot ceiling. She got tired of that and landed on one of the light fixtures.
I've had this happen in my house garage and it was a pain to remove the bird with much lower ceilings. This was going to be worse.
I fetched an extendable painters pole and tied a rag on the end of it. I then poked it in the vicinity of the Hummingbird. It would fly and then land on a light. I was merciless and gave it no rest. In a short period of time it drifted down to the floor of the Lone Beech Garage near a wall. I gave it a minute to rest a little and I walked over to the poor thing and was able to pick it up without a fuss.
I took it outside to a nearby small tree and attempted to sit it on a small branch. As I did so, the bird took off and was out of sight in a flash.

I thought a small chain stretched over the opening of the loading dock would work great and be easy to remove but hopefully still provide sufficient railing. There is also the idea of what Shopnut did with the extendable ladders on his loft.

I think I would like the way a scissor-gate looked and worked but it might have issues in the weather. I suppose it wouldn't be cheap either.
The chain across the opening would be simple and probably cost effective if the inspector would buy off on it.

The last couple of days we have had temperatures right at 90. Summer is just around the corner.
A 3-Day weekend is upon us: Memorial Day is recognized in this country on Monday. Take a moment to think about what the holiday is about at some point this weekend.
Next week I hope we get started on the railing and the week after that some dirt moving in preparation for some "landscaping". With the temperatures climbing, I hope the HVAC guys will come over and fire up the mini-splits soon.
I've had the devil's own time trying to get some serious work done on the 50's era sink cabinet that will go in the Mezzanine. Each day something keeps getting in the way of me spending some quality time with that item. Perhaps tomorrow I can finally get started getting it cleaned up.
A small thing but the painters returned today to touch up the various places that had been dinged and such by other workers. 3 or 4 guys worked at this task all afternoon. The baseboard probably received the lion's share of the worker's attention.

As I noted yesterday, I had hoped to do some major work on getting my vintage sink cabinet cleaned up today. That didn't happen. Part of the issue is I am traveling tonight to Indiana for a quick visit. If all goes according to plan I should return to Georgia tomorrow evening less than 24 hours after I departed.
Anyway, I had a task hiccup this morning that precluded getting started on the sink cabinet in a timely fashion. That coupled with this evening's journey convinced me to table any work on the sink cabinet ...again.
This morning the idea was take advantage of my son's availability and get the scaffolding put together again in the Lone Beech Garage. He will be starting a summer job soon and I won't necessarily have him around to help put up the scaffolding. The scaffolding was together in about 30 minutes and I was hoping to knock out a couple of other quick chores and then get started on the sink cabinet. This is where things went sideways...
When the floor was being finished, the boss of the company noted that one of my T5 tubes was out. [Picture taken after the bad tube was removed which caused the adjacent tube not to be illuminated] Yesterday I had swung by Home Depot and picked up a replacement. There was only one tube left in the box that, when full, holds 30. I picked up the nearly empty box - I thought it would protect the tube I was buying - and checked out of the store.
Now - just before I was going to install it - I noticed that the tube I had brought home wasn't a 54 watt HO T5 tube but a 28 watt T5 tube in a 54 watt HO box.
Perfect; I hate going anywhere on a Saturday to buy stuff because all the stores are a zoo. However I wanted to take care of this now and not wait until I got back. I wasted over an hour with this exchange. I returned home and got the correct tube installed.
The other chore I wanted to get done before any significant time had passed was to bring the shop vac out to the new building and vacuum up along all the baseboards. After the paint was touched up yesterday, there was quite a bit of white dust here and there near the baseboards. I wanted to get that cleaned up as soon as possible after the touchup paint had dried from yesterday.
That bit of cleanup was completed and it's getting to be early afternoon. With my departure for Indiana not that far away, it seemed prudent not to drag the Sink Cabinet out when I could only get around an hour and a half of work done before I'd have to get it back into the house garage.
I filled the remaining time available with swapping out the incandescent 40 Watt candelabra bulbs in my lanterns with some LED substitutes.
The reason for the change was I had already replaced two of the original six incandescent bulbs and this was getting old. Hopefully it will be a long, long time before I have to mess with those lanterns again. These were 2700K bulbs so they should look somewhat like the incandescent bulbs they are replacing. I'll find out when I return from Indiana.

Scott, on the dock railing..... an idea ... core drill holes in the concrete about 6 inches in from the dock edge and then a railing drops in (the holes are somewhat snug to the railing post to prevent teetering of the railing). then when the dock is used the railing is lifted out and set aside, then replaced when the dock is done being used

Another good idea. We'll see what the senior inspector says. I don't see railing around town on any of the commercial loading docks so I'm a little surprised by the Nanny State getting worked up about my loading dock.

Well if one has time to spare, travel by air.
Last night I was intending to fly from Atlanta, GA to Evansville, IN. My wife dropped me off at the airport very early. I obtained authorization to use the Pilot Jumpseat and made my way through security using the Known Crewmember system. Since I had plenty of time until the flight left, I found a quiet place and spent an hour or so on my computer.
When I finally went to my departure gate I was in for a surprise. My flight was going to be late departing... very late departing... 7 hours late departing!
Instead of leaving at 9:15 pm it was now leaving at 5:00 am. I would not be able to get a decent night's sleep - or even much of a nap - and make this flight. I decided not to make the trip.
So I was home today and that allowed me to make some progress on a few things.
The paint was dry on the Yost vise so I spent some time removing the paint tape and putting the big parts together. I still need to do a few things but this gives a pretty good idea how the vise is going to look when I finish this work. This tool will be a fine addition to the Lone Beech Garage's arsenal.
I started working on the Mezzanine's Youngstown Sink Cabinet in earnest! I took off everything that could be unscrewed.
I started wire brushing the kick plate but I need to build a 2x4 skeleton to give the sheet metal some rigidity as I work on it. I will do this tomorrow.
I got all the paint off of one of the Sink Cabinet's doors.
My daughter stopped by and I wanted to spend some time with her. As a result, that was as far as I got today.
I plan to spend most of the day tomorrow on this project.

Scott, sadly I have to double-check every unsealed boxed item I buy at the big box stores. I bought two heavy duty duplex outlets for $6 each and the outlet in one of the boxes contained a $0.68 outlet ($4.90 for 10). I suspect it wasn't a store employee -- just someone who didn't want to pay for the better quality outlet (mine were going outside). I was more pissed about having to make another trip to the store and then trying to explain it to the electrical engineer that handles the return desk.

I was out in the Lone Beech Garage this morning, getting ready to do a little work. As I was walking around on my - for the moment - clean floors the thought hit me.
How am I going to clean the Control Joints if I let "stuff" get in there? The guys that did the concrete finishing worked very hard to get those joints cleaned out and it would be nice to use something to "fill" them to avoid sawdust, dirt, etc. from getting in there now that they're pretty.
Now that I've densified and sealed the floors, is it too late to put some sort of caulk in the control joint? If there is some sort of material available for this application, will it look weird? I did a search for "filling control joints" in the Flooring section and I didn't come across my particular question.

I am in Myrtle Beach this week at my condo and saw the plane in your Avatar mounted at the entrance to the Market Commons which is the site of the old Myrtle Beach Air Force base. I knew I had seen that plane before, just couldn't remember where. Now I remember!

Quikrete makes a polyurethane concrete crake sealant that works good make sure you get the self leveling stuff. I got mine at Home Depot it was stocked in the corner with the blacktop sealant.
This is NOT the self leveling stuff but the tubes look the same.
