I had to work yesterday but after I got home, I had my FIL bring over his Dodge truck so I could swap his tailgate around for his vented one as he is getting ready to tow his 5th wheel trailer next week.

I then helped my son swap tops around on his 2004 Jeep LJ.

Then I sat in the shade in my back yard and just relaxed and enjoyed my back yard for about an hour before firing up the grill and grilling some burgers.

Did some cleaning in the shop (just a bit) and started hanging the upper cabinets that we ripped out of the kitchen we're renovating.

Heh, I TRIED to do the same... First time I have ever changed one on this mower, and I can't figure it out. I'm probably going to lose my man card over this. The old one broke, so I didn't have it to go by. There is a diagram on the deck and in the manual, but I can't see it going back on that way. Going by the dealership tomorrow to have a look at one and figure it out.

Jason

Lots of online research for mine. An old Murray that is new to me. I had to remove both tensioner pulleys to make it work. once the deck was removed it was much easier. A jack and a bfh helped.

Tire and wheel on the bike. Put it back together, cleaned, serviced, inspected it. It passes my muster, it'll pass NYS tomorrow. Took it for a ride round the block. Just like new. Happy results like this are why I like working in my shop.

Etched and primed the tail gate on the '50 GMC, if the primer cures enough, I may still get a touch of color on it today.

Instead of giving $1800 to the Audi dealer to install a hitch on my 2016 Q5, I decided to do it myself for $265 and an Ebay Hidden Hitch. 4500 pound limit is far more than I needed, but nice to have.

In her previous Nissan Rogue my wife was rear ended 5 times in 6 years, so we installed a little additional protection. It may not help, but she feels better anyhow.

Jim, That will help, god forbid it happens again. Great job on the install!

Thanks! It took only about 2 hours to install the hitch. I was surprised that the dealer said it was a 6 hour job, at $120 and hour, and the wiring another 3 hours, plus parts at a total cost of $1800.

Hopefully we will never find out if the Bully Bar helps in another rear ender.:lol_hitti

Last guy that rear ended me (back when I had my Tacoma) destroyed his front bumper and core support. I had a ball hitch in at the time, as I had just come from dropping a trailer off and didn't take it out. He was driving a silverado, and it was his work truck. He begged me not to call the cops, or he'd get fired. Haha.

My Jeep XJ got hit (was parked on the street, no ball in the hitch) while we were out of town. Bent the hitch all up into the unibody and pretty much totaled the whole thing. YMMV.

Yeah, the unibody on the Q5 wont take too big of a hit, but so far hers have been fairly light bumps. Enough to scratch up the bumper, except the last one when she had the hitch on the Rogue. Nothing in the receiver, but the Accord that hit her was not drivable. Her car had a torn bumper cover and that was all. $460 to replace and paint it.

I figure it is a 50 pound steel receiver instead of a 5 pound aluminum bumper it replaced, so either it will help, or it will not crumple and cause more damage. What gives me encouragement is that the factory hitch is nearly identical, so likely I am not making it worse.

Last night I finally got around to giving my truck a good detailing. Also had a little road tar or grease slung up under the door and rear quarter that I had to clean off. She's shining like a diamond in a goat's *** again.

Start advertising your Audi services. Could steal a few dealership customers. $1800 for a hitch install, highway robbery.

I am getting ready to rebuild a fence and was dreading the thought of moving the new steel posts and Hardie Plank siding boards around. A neighbor discarded an old porch swing with A Frame legs.

That old porch swing is well on the way to becoming a cart to carry those same posts and siding boards.

With a welder, old steel and other discards become something new.

rearranged some stuff, condensed some stuff and pitched some stuff. The stuff I pitched, I know I will need it like a week from now despite not touching it for 2 years.

All this to make room to fit my 8x10 shed contents into it, need to get it torn down so the new 24x30 garage can go in its spot.

For a couple of months I've been working up a tachometer mount for my blown stovebolt truck build. Started out finding the rare accessory clock for the '54-'55 1st Series truck.

bb042016am.JPG

Removed the clock and mounted it in my '37 Chevy truck. Then painted the clock housing with Duplicolor Detroit Diesel Green engine paint (later in the build, the dash will be painted with the same paint).

bb050216am.JPG

Got a 2-5/8" 6,000 tach from Speedhut.com. You specify face, text style, needle style and other parameters on their website, then they build it for you. Took a month.

bb052716am.JPG

Finally, found a Hardin Marine Gauge Bezel at CPPerformance.com I needed for the tach / clock housing interface.

bb060316am.JPG

I can now put the tach / clock housing assembly on the shelf until ready for installation.

That turned out great. Will be a nice addition to the dash and truck.

I installed the "MY Q" garage door internet link in my barn today, now I can open and close the door that I have my 8500 hooked to, you can set alarms ect if needed and it tells you if the door is open or closed.

did your q5 have lane assit and rear camera and rear park sensors and how did that work out for you when there is a trailer hook up without those modules recooded for a trailer.

Nice install!

Does the hitch replace the bumper or does it attach to the frame? If it attaches to the frame I wouldn't want to ever have use that step as "added protection". When the tow hitch is attached to the frame, the step basically negates the 2.5 MPH bumpers. In other words, a small bump is more likely to do real damage.

Rebuilt the center section out of a buddies race car. Lots of cleaning and sub assembly, but I made a video of the final assembly. (note: is has been sped up, I do not move that fast!)

Yes, all of it. The rear camera is, of course useless when towing, and when backing I just disable the sensors. The lane assist does not appear to be effected.

It replaces the regular bumper, just like the factory hitch does. Since it does, there is no risk, and actually it is stronger. Good until the high gets much harder, in which case the aluminum body structure will likely deform. But again, this is a design the engineers are aware of, so it should be fine. The little bumper will take a small hit. I am hoping enough.

Put the Model A up on Jack Stands and checked the suspension, changed the oil and filter, topped the trans and diff, lubed the U anoints, sway bar bushings, end links and steering shaft stabilizer Heim.

Checked the brake and clutch fluid levels, then washed the car (did that outside the garage) dried the car and put it back in the garage, ready for a road trip tomorrow :D .
