Nice Massey. I strongly suspect that when Prentiss switched to removable jaws on the bull dog line at the turn of the century. They may have sold there old molds to Massey hence why you don't see very many and the mold quality is usually less then stellar as your photos show. I believe mine was originally japanned black. Also another thought i was having maybe they got the extra molds or something to that effect when Prentiss had a factory fire in 1895ish.

Did a fellow GJ member just now outbid me in the last 10 seconds of the auction to get this baby bullet for $171.50 ?
If so...well played sir!

What are the odds a swivel base from a 5" Chicago wilton fits a 4" Schiller park wilton? I just found out it fits
Ok so am I a d##k because I noticed that the Emmert 10 listed on eBay has lots of new pics that intentionally hide the welded/repaired jaw? I am sorry bur IMHO opinion that is disingenuous, and even WORSE when you consider the astronomical price he is asking.
Is it a 3"?
I just got one for $40.
Maybe I read about too many of Joe Striper's fantastic scores for only pennies.closing on my first home very soon and I'm planning the garage build already. Needless to say a buying vise is going to be an intricate decision.
I'm honestly not sure what it is. I loaded it in the trunk when he asked if I wanted it and haven't had a chance to look it over much.
Yes I was amazed at how good it looked. Probably sat in his basement for years and barely got used.

Joe that looks great! Did you prime or topcoat?I just finished up this Starrett 924 today. Wow is this a TIGHT vise. beautifully made machined right down to the specially made spindle nut keeper.
I made the jaw insert screw and hand ground the sides until they fit properly and then polished them. Much better than the original screws.
I painted this with Dupli-Color caliper paint. We will see how it holds up. 1/2 an hour in the oven at 225 set the paint up nice and really smoothed it out. I know the lettering needs to be done but my hands just don't want to cooperate.
Well anyway, it is RED. REALLY RED and no I didn't push the color at all in my editing software.![]()

Joe,
I'm going to guess that it's a Sheldon vise that has the quick release feature. Probably made in the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
I really like them.
