Ductless Split Outdoor Unit Wiring

I have a two ton ductless split

Unit is rated for 208 VAC.. L1 L2 and gnd are the only terminals at the unit.. there is no neutral terminal

I ran 220V AC 30 Amp service from the panel 8/3 wire L1 Black L2 Red Nuetral White GND Bare copper. There is no place to connect the neutral wire in the unit

Can anyone offer advice?

Neutral isn't used. Just connect L1, L2 and ground. You only need neutral for devices that also use 120 volts (some stoves use 120 volts to power the clock and controls).

Guess I have an extra conductor and I ran 8 GA for 25A.. looks way to beefy.. 10 would have been fine

12g is actually rated for 25a on hvac applications.

This site says 8 ga for 25A... is it 12.5 Amps per L1 and L2? That would make sense I could use 12 ga

The NEC doesnt allow (there are some exceptions) a 12 gauge wire to be put be used on anything higher than a 20 amp breaker even though it can handle more load. Here's a table. http://www.usawire-cable.com/pdfs/nec ampacities.pdf

Cap and stow the neutral in your disconnect box.

I ran 8 gauge wire, too. And 6 gauge to the 50A welder sockets. I didn't know what the next person might want to install (or what else I might want to use) so I figured it was best to assume 100% duty cycle.
