Re: 1966 F100 EcoBoost Engine Swap & 1966 427 Project
The front cab mounts are 100% stock Ford. Front frame mounts stock ford welded, I am using the '11 Eco floor so stock bolts/torque was used. I am also using a stock rear '11 mount but had to change position on the frame. I cut them off the donor '11 and put them in proper place. After pulling the box I was able to weld the backside of both and 50% of topside. On the left rear cab mount there is no front side. The right rear mount I still need to weld the front side. Its totally accessible from underneath.
I forget if the core support mounts are full welded or not but pretty sure they are done but will double check. I do need to add more metal to front ends of frame where I made the cutout.
Everything rear of cab is final welded now including all the box mounts and the shock mounts. Only thing left on rear suspension is to final torque the upper shocks to mount and torque the spring Eye Bolts which will happen when I get the box in place.
I do have a lot of final welding to do on part of lower firewall and also cowl area but that will happen once i tear it down for paint.
Plan is to go thru Cleveland then into Lorain and if any of the plants are still there that built a lot of Mercury's back in the day. I had my 427 Comet's that were built there along with my Cyclone Spoilers. I have a friend who's father worked at the lorain plant and sent me some info along with old photo's & a package he got as a retirement gift.
How slow I am at getting things done it could be a while yet . . LOL
Had big plans for the day today to get the box back on eco 1 but got a call from a friend who had a oil change done yesterday and 38 miles later the oil light came on and the engine started to make funny noises. She had it towed to the shop who did oil change but called me as they were putting it up on hoist. I am suspecting they did the "DOUBLE GASKET" treatment so not sure if they had the time to "fix" the gasket issue or not. Waiting on a flatbed to drop it off here. When I got there there was not a drop of oil on stick.
I did get the manager to agree there was no oil in it. Its possible they added only a small amount but only makes sense it was the double gasket mistake.
Other wise not likely it would have gone 38 miles. If they only added say 1 quart it makes no sense either. 4 hours waiting for tow truck so far. One would think a major insurance company could do better than that.
These usually do not turn out well! Corporate gets a hold of it and deny deny deny. They knew they screwed up, the best would have been to put her in a rental car and drop a engine in it.
Is everything welded up on Eco1 or is it still spot welded together? Curious since I don't remember seeing anything about blowing it back apart for final welding. The cab, at least.
The box I remember you welded it as you went along.
Great job on this as I read it for the last couple of years, updates and such.

It would be fun to get a group from Dayton/ Columbus/Cincinnati Ohio area all together to meet up with one another and see the ECO power tour !!
