For the past 40 years, I've been going to yard sales, auctions, etc and piecing together a motley assortment of Snap-on, Proto, Indestro, SK, and similar tools until I finally have a decent setup to do basic work. I've had to pay from 25 cents to $1 to even $10 per tool, I must have hundreds invested now.

Today, opened a magazine and saw an ad for Harbor Freight. They sell a full set of wrenches, in SAE or Metric, nice shiny chrome, for $5.99! You can get set up with wrenches for under $12. Splurge and buy TWO SETS of each for under $25! And, I think they are lifetime guaranteed.

Man, just last year I paid $100 for a 16 piece set of Proto metric combination wrenches. And, $125 for a 15 piece set of Snap-on angle wrench open ends. Though they were in excellent condition, they were still used.

Now I feel ripped off and violated! Overpaid by at least $200. What was i thinking?

Now, if I could just find another old, clueless fellow like myself to pass my prior purchases off on, I can replace them at HF and pocket a couple hundred dollars in the process. The only real obstacle is that I have to drive over 120 miles to get the nearest HF store. Part of the cost of living in a small town, I guess. Hope the super sale and coupon doesn't expire before then, the true value of the wrenches, according to the ad is compared at $250.

How do you guys find time to do any work when you are scouring ebay for hours and hours every day, going to auctions during the working hours of the week, and spending all weekend sifting through junk you wouldn't take for free at most yard sales? In any case, great deal on those wrenches.

Lots of wrenches for little money and I have gone that route for my travel kit.

Not too blingy Pretul things that do as they should. I have nice stuff too but why risk losing it with careless co-workers.

I prefer the nicer stuff by far.

Fedwrench,

I went to the website and looked. They would only let me use the coupon for one set, not more, so I end up having to pay $5.99 for one set, but they want more than that to ship; $6.99 shipping. What a rip-off, that's how they make their money, charge more for the shipping than they do for the item. And, won't give you the good price on more than one item.

Guess I'll just have to wait until I go to the city to buy in person, and go back 4 times to get my two full sets for under $25. Oh, I'll have to pay sales tax too. Looking worse and worse deal all the time.

OutsideMachinist: What do you mean find time to work? If you shop enough for tools, you can entirely avoid invoking that 4 letter word!

Maxcarp709: The catch to that is I need to sell them to some other sucker fellow for at least what I have in them, and pocket the difference in cost as a profit. Otherwise, I'd be out the postage it takes to send them to you. So, can't send them to you for a trade.

But Dave; there is a hidden advantage to ordering online from Harbor Freight:
Your Credit Card billing address will have to match Your mailing address,
but; You can list Your Shipping Address as a vacant lot about twenty miles away.

Sorry, but your math is all wrong-you forgot to factor in the value of the free tape measure.
